Eden Hazard - Chelsea Legend

Featured Replies

Speaking to French magazine Onze Mondial, the Blues no.10 was asked about those Real Madrid rumours and how much it would cost the Spanish giants to sign him.

The 26-year-old has been long linked with a move to the Spanish capital but those rumours have gathered pace recently.

Given some of the deals that went down during the summer including Ousmane Dembele's £98m move from Dortmund to Barcelona and Neymar's £200m switch from the Catalans to PSG, Hazard joked his price tag could be even more.

"Someone will have to pay a fortune in order for Chelsea to sell. Yeah, it’s that, that’s what football is right now," Hazard told Onze Mondial.

"Ever since Neymar and co signed for €100 or €200 million… Now, a team needs a king’s ransom for everyone!," he added, laughing. "That’s the problem."

Former Chelsea and Real Madrid midfielder Michael Essien has called on the Blues to tie Hazard down to an improved contract with the Real rumours getting stronger, but Hazard seems happy for the time being.

He added: "As I’ve said, I’m here right now, I want to finish my year as well as I can. After that, I have two years left on my deal. We’ll see what happens.

"As a joke last time I said that I was worth €300 million. Have I gone up by another €50 in two months? €350m, that’s still a lot," he said bursting into laugher again.

"No, honestly, I have no idea. I can’t say too much about this because Chelsea will never sell me otherwise! I honestly don’t know."

-------------------------------------------------------------

Sounds like we have to wait until summer before anything happens with both Courtois and Hazards contracts situations.

Saw a paper rumour that Real will go all in for Hazard this summer.

To be honest I’m not even sure they could afford him. We’ve got to be talking £200m, the same as Neymar.

Hypothetically, if Real came in the summer with £100-130m but we refused to sell unless it was £200m. Hazard says he wants to leave and won’t sign another contracts.  What do the club do?

Transfer fees nowadays are insane. If Hazard did want to leave we would have to be talking in the world record sort of price ie. 200m. Players like Eden really are a rare breed and only a few in the world can get football fans excited enough to make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up.

Anyone in the stadium gets an immediate buzz and you can feel it all around as soon as Hazard takes his first step with the ball, and then drops his shoulder, and makes an opponent look a right prat. Pure magic.

When you think about it, he really is irreplaceable.

I will be pissed if/when he does leave, but life goes on, and so does Chelsea FC. What I would like to happen though, whether Hazard stays or goes, is for the club to decide what it wants to do. Are we going to try and compete for top honours? If so, go out and compete for the best players and spend big! If not, then start focusing on bringing some of these amazing youth players through. If that means no trophies for a while then so be it.

We say throw isco on top of that £130m or we will keep hazard for another 2 seasons!

I would keep him for the final 2 years of contract. At that point he would be 28/29 so we will of had for the best of his years.

of course the club will find it hard to resist £200m but hopefully they know that Hazard is a once in a generation player so won’t sell.

All hypothetical of course. Let’s hope he resigns.

He also said this:

"If in your job, it's great and you're the boss, do you move? " In an interview with Onze Mondial, Eden Hazard explained his choice to stay in Chelsea, saying: "I have always been like that. From the moment things are going well .... When you change, it's because it's not going well. If in your job, it's great and you're the boss, you move? Why would you move? You're not going to change, right? Besides, you know everyone, you're good, all that. That's what happened to me in Lille. I knew everyone, it was amazing. And when I felt that I had to change, I left. And here at Chelsea, it's the same thing. This is my sixth year. I have my family who is there. My wife and childrens feels great. I am not far from Belgium so my family can come quite often. I am in a big club. Every year, I win almost a trophy. In the field, it's going really well. Not leaving Chelsea without winning the Champions League? It's not easy to win the Champions League (smile). Maybe I will never win! Of course I would like to do like Didier Drogba who left after winning the Champions League. It would be nice to do that. It would make me a beautiful ending. Like my ending in Lille where I left on a hattrick, you see? It's very beautiful. But I do not really think about that. I just want to give the maximum. If I do not win the Champions League, it will be like that, it will be my story. In any case, I will do everything to win it."

We would be absolute mugs if we let Hazard go for less than 150 million, I'm not even joking either when you look at players like Dembele going for 150 million and Neymar going for 200.

And then what's to stop us from blocking the transfer? Liverpool did it with Coutinho.

Who is better than him? How can you watch Azpilicueta week in week out and tell me that he is NOT world class man???? The dude is BY FAR the best defender in the prem, and i will be honest to me he is the best out there, i dont see anybody that comes even close to him when it comes to defending, the dude is absolutely imacculate when it comes to defending, but not only that, he is also a great passer and an amazing crosser too on top of that. He is the best, people who disagree either dont watch him or are too biased to see. There is a reason why both Gary Neville and Carragher, both former DEFENDERS at the highest level constantly sing his praises and call him the best in the PL.

Absolutely agree he's by far the best defender in the league and in Europe one on one, no one is better he has pace can tackle, he can cross. There is a reason Jose wanted a team full of Azpi he is absolutely WORLD CLASS just doesn't get the credit

Sorry fellas. Was not meaning to cause aggravation. Game of opinions and all that.

If you are interested in my reasoning for my opinion it is not meant as a slight against dave at all, as I said I think he is a truly exceptional player. I just compare any defender we have or had to jt. Who is, in my opinion, by far and away the best Chelsea defender I have seen. We have been blessed with some truly brilliant defenders, lebouf, gallas,  marcel,  Ricky, Paulo, Ashley Cole, dave. It is a who's who of amazing premier league defenders but I would say jt was just that little but more special than them all.

The last one is so hurtful but so true at the same time. For me, he is the best player in the world right now. He is not that good like Messi and Ronaldo used to be, but their performance degraded a little and tbh I dont see anyone better than him at the moment. If he got some support, someone to share the ball with, he would be recognised as the world's number 1. But he doesn't. Cesc is too slow for. Mata used to be and they had really good partnership but then we sold him and since there - Willian, Pedro, Kante, Salah, Cesc, Costa, Morata - none of them capable of good and intense running, passing, dribbling.

He is just the best. Imagine if he had a good summer and time to prep for the season. We should be flattered because Real Madrid's interest is recognition.

And at the end - we should reject them as rudest as we can. If you have the best player in the world, you simply don't sell him. At any cost. Simple as that.

That's easier said than done though. If a player knows that he's wanted by Real Madrid or Barcelona, history tells us that they usually end up there, even if it takes a season longer than they'd like.

Frankly, I'm a little surprised he is still here and maybe this summer it will be difficult for us, especially if he plays well in Russia.

If we can have a big January and sign a couple of top quality players, it could go a long way to keeping him. If we signed Sanchez and Sandro, I think that would massively improve our team to the point where 2nd place should be easily attainable this season and we'd be much better suited to a PL/CL run next season.

It would be nice if Chelsea could have someone else to carry the creative outlet burden for the team, rather than solely rely on Hazard.

However, in recent seasons it seems that this is indicative of the way we operate.  It was Joe Cole, then it was Mata, and now it's Eden.

Would be interesting to see what he could do with a "partner" in the creativity field.

I do say this knowing full well that there are very few players like Eden just waiting to be picked up by Chelsea

I thought that was why we were persevering with Fabregas.

yeah, but different areas of the pitch, and its also tough to know where Fab will always play.  He is a great creative outlet to link the midfield up with the attackers.  I suppose, i should be more specific and state that teh creativity in the attacking 3rd is always relying on 1 player.

For me it is the system, I am starting to think we lose an attacking player by having three CBs which is limiting us offensively.

Hazard and Morata appear to link up well though both on Saturday couldn't get their shots on target. One of those days or a symptom of something else?

Can't make up my mind if it is fatigue and if so that will get worse through the month.

People go to all those lengths to make a nice video like that and then ruin it by putting the most horrible music on it.

I agree, mate, but it seems inappropriate to put Crown and Ring however I would love it. :D

But this video shows not only his dribbling skills which is something we are very familiar with, but also so many key passes, headers, helping the defense - just anything. The best player in the world. Period.

I think your'e right. But we need a proper left back to change to a back four.

Couldn't Alonso operate as an LCB rather than a LWB?

I don't recall speed being crucial for a LCB, though definitely an asset and will always appreciate Ashley Cole despite being an ex-gunner.

Alonso isn't actually very good at defending, when defending in a pack he's OK but he did well in the team as the WB position is made for those who are decent in both attack and defence but don't really excel, just like Moses.

Moses is better at defending, has pace and strength and can dribble past players, I expect him to remain in the team despite not being that great at scoring or creating chances.

Alonso on the other hand does offer certain things like aerial threat and fantastic free kicks but he is just too slow and not great defensively, I expect him to be phased out of the team in the next 2 transfer windows and become a one season wonder.

That unless we can find a formation or way of playing to free him up again but as of the way we are playing now he's not offering too much.

Can journalism get any lazier.

Be gutted if / when Hazard leaves but I am 100% certain we would never sell him to Man Utd.
