January 22, 201610 yr Well the reported weekly wage for a past it nearly 32 year old Ivanovic is £110k per week. Which begs the question, is Emanalo and the rest of the back room clowns f**king high? Edited January 22, 201610 yr by timetowaste
January 22, 201610 yr Sad to see such a loyal and long serving player become the focus of a lot of ire and frustration. In a way it is, but do you not agree that paying that sort of salary to someone who can no longer hack it at this level, has become a liability and is going to carry on being selected in place of someone who can offer a lot more.
January 22, 201610 yr Dave has been excellent at LB, but he would be even better at RB. So by continually playing Ivanovic we're not only missing out on numerous LBs who have come and gone, but on the best of Dave while he's still at his peak.
January 22, 201610 yr hmm. I think this is a bad move. JT has more than enough left to get another year but ivanovic is finished as an attacking fullback (and probably as a defensive one in a side with any real attacking intent). maybe he'll move into the middle. it is curious that these sort of deals can be made without a permanent manager in place. unless we know who the new man is and he has briefed to this effect.
January 22, 201610 yr The only way this makes sense is if Ivanovic will be used as a backup for RB and CB next season, we save money by not having to buy a replacement and we keep his experience and leadership in the dressing room However, if Ivanovic is still considered first choice RB next season I will be seriously frustrated, he's clearly past it and he offers us nothing going forward. It hampers our play big time playing Azpi on the left and Ivanovic on the right, we literally have no threat from our FBs
January 22, 201610 yr Luis was a better LB than Dave, because Dave is a bloody RB!!!!! Edited January 22, 201610 yr by Ballack & Blu
January 22, 201610 yr 120 grand a week lol x 10 to the power of 6 still less than Falcao whose on a 130 a week not enough zeros for that lol
January 23, 201610 yr As much as I appreciate his undoubted contribution over the years let's face it, he's been a liability for much of this season and his errors have led to far too many goals being conceded. Of course he's not solely to blame but given his age and experience I would have expected more.
January 23, 201610 yr The state of the club...for f**ks sake. We could sign any lower league right back and you'd bet he would do a much better job than Ivanovic. We could even promote someone from the reserves.
January 23, 201610 yr On his new contract "Means a lot, really, for me. I always say, I was born in Serbia, but made in Chelsea Football Club, as a player, as a person as well, so for me another huge and massive step in my career."
January 23, 201610 yr I think he has a fairly... Imposing presence in the dressing room and with so much chopping and changing its probably best he's kept around. I wouldn't have him as a starter though, he seemed exempt from being dropped when he was clearly our most out-of-form player for a while.
January 23, 201610 yr I think being made vice captain has had an impact on creating his indispensability.
January 23, 201610 yr After all the club legends who have left Chelsea in the last few seasons — one of whom will be between the sticks for the wrong team on Sunday, even — Ivanovic's new contract, that's Chelsea Vice-captain Branislav Ivanovic's new contract, is something to feel good about. Football can be a cold, hard business; it's nice to be able to cherish and reward our heroes sometimes.

January 23, 201610 yr I'm ok with him being offered this deal, but only if we are looking to upgrade next season, we can't go into next season with Ivanovic as our first choice RB. Edited January 23, 201610 yr by Scott Harris
January 23, 201610 yr I think we need ivanovic around a while longer to pass the torch in a way. We haven't done a good enough job of moulding new leaders. I agree I hope he is more of a squad player next season though.
January 23, 201610 yr He shouldn't be first choice, we have 2 good right backs at the club in Azpi and Aina who i really rate. We are one of the richest clubs in the world and we are playing a RB at LB.

I agree I hope he is more of a squad player next season though. Pass the torch ? Sorry but in my opinion he is probably our weakest link this season and defensively he's been caught out time and time again. How he has been given another contract and the vice captaincy is beyond me.
January 23, 201610 yr Well, He wouldn't be the first to pass the torch fastening his seat belt... Edited January 23, 201610 yr by lesblues
January 23, 201610 yr Ive seen better RBs playing sunday league football than ivan this season....guys been an abdolute disgrace for the club this season....in fact it was Ivans mistake in the first game against swansea that started all this f##king mess to start with....

How he has been given another contract and the vice captaincy is beyond me. He's not been great this season, but he very much a chelsea man, that knows the what it means to represent the club, and that is something I think new players need to have instilled.
