January 31, 201610 yr Just in from a walk, and cleared the head a little. This was the one thing I said to my wife that was the silver lining...we can plan for his send of, something we didn't get to do with Frank. Yep, Dan Levene was all over the fact that this came about from a phone call. However, I don't think it's as callous as it sounds. The agent called to see in January (something that Terry said they always did) and he was told that it was a no. Not, as some seem to be taking it, that the club called his agent to tell him over the phone. Levene was wrong ( not the first time though).
January 31, 201610 yr Sure I agree Scott, however you'd have thought the club would choose to give the news to their most decorated player ever face to face. After all this is JT here, not just any another player. Maybe I'm just being romantic , I don't know. Clearly that's not how these things work. I know mate, it's a tough one all round.
January 31, 201610 yr Levene was wrong ( not the first time though). I used to follow him on twitter, but stopped as he was getting worse and worse. So he was wrong that JT was told over the phone? There was a transcript of Terry's comments, and it sounded that way....well, that his agent was trying to find out, the agent was told, and then the club accepted JOhn's request to meet the next day.
January 31, 201610 yr I'm this and more, i'm mainly furious. I know Scott he'll be missed. Its the last connection we have from the pre Roman era. JT knows how for we have come the rest just here for the success Roman has brought. I don't see any other leaders in our squad
January 31, 201610 yr Hard to make comparisons with legends like Osgood and Zola but in terms of commitment, leadership and courage John Terry is clearly one of the greatest footballers this club will ever have. It has been a privilege to watch his career with the club from start to finish. Here's hoping he does return to the coaching staff some day, he has a lot to teach young players about how to handle yourself on the field and how to lead a team.

Yes, you're right about the transcript but what I read slightly differed, JT said he told his agent to arrange a meeting and the board to him their decision to his face which he respected.
February 1, 201610 yr Next manager has a tough job choosing a captain from the rest of our squad!! Any leaders there? Presumably Ivanovic will now be captain purely based on his age, experience and the fact he is currently Vice captain so it wont rock the boat too much. But personally I would rather see either Cahill or Azpilicueta as captain
February 1, 201610 yr This is the same player who last season was arguably back to being the world's best in his position. Nothing has changed physically, nothing has changed mentally. He's still our best and has plenty left in him from what we can see. This is not a footballing decision in any way. The working process in this club, owner to board is rotten and needs complete overhaul for this club to move forward and get back to the top. The decisions we have seen this season are unbelievable, mind-bogglingly stupid. JT can still contribute to any team in the world at the highest level and once again other teams can benefit from our board's incompetence.
February 1, 201610 yr The club is a joke they don't respect our wishes but will happily take our money. What message does leaving jt go say, basically you can give your all for this club sweat blood and tears but after 20 years service we don't want you know more. Makes Ivan's new deal even more strange
February 1, 201610 yr I won't jump to judgements at the moment because the details aren't clear. For all we know, the board might have offered John Terry a contract but at a lower salary than he wanted, and both sides are posturing and eventually one side will give in. We'll wait and see. But this is the John Terry appreciation thread, so I'll say this, with the disclaimer that I don't have any inside knowledge of the club. I get the impression that NO ONE at Stamford Bridge--no owner/administrator, no player, not even the most diehard of diehard fans--loves Chelsea as much as John Terry does.
February 1, 201610 yr Can't believe Martin Keown's comments in the Daily Mail, must have a real problem with JT. He cannot say anything positive in his answers along with Redknapp, carragher. Carragher says he would have him now with the dippers!! See what people on here think.

Carragher says he would have him now with the dippers!! See what people on here think. It's probably the fact that JT surpassed him both in ability and in trophies. And probably banged more babes too and earned more money. Who cares what a bitter gooner thinks much less feels?
February 2, 201610 yr This kind of thing sums up modern day football perfectly for me. It stinks of a board-led, policy based decision rather than anything to do with football. He might be getting long in the tooth but he is still our first choice CB. There may come a time when he is no longer able to perform as regularly and consistently as we are used to, but the benefits of having him in the squad, even just on the bench and in the dressing room, are pretty obvious. I like Zouma a lot and think he could be a very good CB for us in the future, but I believe he will be a better player the longer he has to learn from JT. Edited February 2, 201610 yr by bluedave
February 6, 201610 yr Author Andre Pirlo on John Terry: "You get players like Maldini for Milan who are so much more than a man on the field, they're part of the club. These are the types of player impossible to replace."
February 6, 201610 yr With talk of allegri and conte coming in, it got me thinking that going 3 at the back could prolong jt's career, and in fact he would be vital to organising a 3 man defence. Zouma and a new left sided centre back, preferably laporte, but Umtiti would be a good fit also, with terry in the middle organizing.
February 7, 201610 yr Finished ? yeah right. Give him a new contract and keep doing it until he decides to call it a day, the guy is the heart of that squad right now.
February 7, 201610 yr No excuse for not offering him a contract while giving one to Ivanovic. Costa looked a little frightened today when JT was celebrating with him
February 7, 201610 yr If Ivanovic got a new contract, why this legend won't get? Edited February 7, 201610 yr by IliyaKrostin
February 7, 201610 yr give the man a new contract , he is still solid as a rock . Age is nothing when you have a footy brain like JT. Davie Weir was a colossus for Rangers into his 40's
