Didier Drogba Returns!

Featured Replies

I think he should take a coach/emergency playing role as a fourth choice in the squad.

Maybe but I don't really see the need for him anymore given what we have seen this season.

Is he going to be anymore effective on the pitch than say Bamford or another youth psuhing through? He'd also take up another non homegrown slot if he were to be on the playing squad and is it worth it considering he's not up to the standard anymore?

The experience is obviously not to be questioned but we have plenty of that already in Terry, Cahill, Cesc while others like Dave, Costa, Hazard are now pretty well expierenced in the league and Europe.

I just think it's an ideal time for him to move aside with a winners medal around his neck.

Totally agree.

If Didier is going to stay at the club in a non-playing / coaching capacity then fine - don't think too many would have a problem with that if the club have a role for him. But his playing days at the top level are over and it would be embarrassing to see him trying to play again next season when we will have much better options.

Yeah actually good points there, can't argue

I agree. The perfect way would have been for him to end his career after the Champions League win, but the next best thing would be for him to score the goal that wins us the Premier League trophy.

He's scored some important goals this season though. Man U game and Shrewsbury spring to mind.

I know, but those aren't the kind of goals that people will remember. He scored the final penalty in the shoot-out in Munich, so the second best way to bow out would be to score the one that gives us the league title this season. That one people would remember for a long time. He deserves it.

Great performance tonight, fantastic in the air, brilliant at holding the ball up, and brought his teammates into the game excellently. Took his goal well too, immediately after taking a knock. Also completed 90 minutes despite not being in top condition, despite being 37. The man is the f**king boss.

Used to always hear from scouse mates that Torres was better than Drogba back when they were the 2 best (with Rooney) a few years back. Fairplay to Nando for joining us, but even at the age of 37 I'd still take Didier. He isn't the player that he was, he has been pretty poor recently, but at the end of the day that's 7pts we might not have secured without his contribution this season. He'd almost certainly be the striker in my dream Chelsea team since I started watching (sorry Gianaluca, Franco, Tore, Eidur, Jimmy, even you Chris Sutton). Complete and utter Chelsea legend and a man who loves the club too- so much respect to you Didier.

Got a lot of stick in the first half...and that's because it was a sh*t performance. Nothing went for him and he couldn't do the basics.

Second-half he was better, took his goal well, he actually showed some sensible movement and as the game wore on and Leicester became more ragged his touch improved.

So which is the real Drogba? Not the Drogba of 5 years ago, but the 37 year old one who can still score the odd goal but looks past it at times as well? For me he's a wonderful presence, just not on the pitch.

Scored a nice goal but other than that I thought he was poor mostly. So many attacks breaking down with him. Hopefully will gracefully retire at the end of the season and not try to prolong it any more

I love him as much as anyone, but apart from the goal he was beyond useless tonight, missing 2 glorious chances and didn't even make a move to get on the end of a 1st half cutback. Attacks break down any time the ball gets near him and I would much rather start a youth player or recall Bamford to finish the season.

Too unpredictable what you're going to get with DD on the pitch now.

His performance last night was very Jekyll and Hyde.

He had two shots that were absolutely dog turd given the time and space he had to hit them, one in the first half and one in the second, both teed up by Fabregas who at one point I thought showed some signs of frustration towards DD.

Took his goal well, no question, nice sweeping finishing but for me the bad outweighed the good. He's a bit of a liability at times now. One of Leicester's best chances come from him lazily volleying the ball against one of our own players on the half way line.

Great servant, club legend but I think it is time for the club to move on at the end of the season. I have no objections to him moving into a coaching role.

At Leicester he was pretty bad first half, took his goal well and was a bit better as the game went on. You could see how knackered he was after the game for playing 90 mins.

Anyone got goal+assist numbers of Didi's this season and Torres' from his last season with us?

He's an absolute legend, no doubts about it but other than the goal, his performance against Leicester was poor, I hope he reconsiders and retires to taking a coaching role with us next year, but I don't think he should play on, if he does it shouldn't be with us, I just don't see how Solanke or Brown or Bamford couldn't take that spot and perform the a similar level.

Spot on.

Goal aside he was dire
