January 6, 20179 yr I'm still not completely sold on Ake yet. But still, i have been more impressed with him at Bournemouth than i was at any time when i watched him at Watford last season. He's definitely more comfortable as a CB than he is as a full back. I have seen him get caught out a few times when Bournemouth concede, but over time he will surely improve on that. I personally don't think we should be focusing on signing anymore CB's for a while. Conte obviously likes his defenders that can do both defending and playing with the ball, i think we have enough of that at the club and out on loan right now. Luiz, Cahill, Azpilicueta, Terry, Zouma, Ivanovic, Christensen, Ake, there is plenty of competition there.
January 7, 20179 yr Chelsea are considering recalling Nathan Ake from his loan from Bournemouth after the 21-year-old established himself in the first team in the last two months. Antonio Conte is searching for a wing back in the transfer window and believes Ake can play that position as well as providing cover as a left-sided defender in a back three. ‘Ake is a really good player and now he's started to play with Bournemouth and is playing every game,’ said Conte. ‘Honestly, I'm evaluating his situation, because Ake could be an interesting opportunity in this window for us.’ http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-4097224/Chelsea-transfer-news-Antonio-Conte-considers-recalling-Nathan-Ake-Bournemouth.html
January 7, 20179 yr Conte is considering recalling him this month, apparently he has a recall option in the loan deal. Personally I would leave him at Bournemouth, he's playing well and developing nicely there, not sure how much game time he'd get by returning to us.
January 7, 20179 yr I don't think it would that big of a suprise if he forced himself into the team ahead of alonso or cahill if he came back. Experience is a wonderful thing, but if he is in conte's plans, then it might be best to get him back, so he can train under Conte, and try to impress conte enough to not buy anyone in the summer. This could be the decision that makes or breaks his chelsea career. Personally I'd like to see us strike while the iron is hot.
January 7, 20179 yr Always felt Ake and Moses were ready since 2013, I was disappointed that they were sent out on loan when Jose came back. But regarding the LWB position I had hoped Kenedy would be good in that role, if he doesn't feature tomorrow then Conte probably doesn't fancy him there. Ake is developing well at Bournemouth so I really hope we don't disrupt that if he's coming back just to sit on the bench.
January 7, 20179 yr Although Ake could well offer Chelsea excellent LCB and LWB cover, I think it would be a mistake to recall him early. He is getting regular game time and building experience and confidence. Also, recalling him sends out the wrong message to clubs who take Chelsea players on loan, the system is a two way street and trust needs to be maintained between the lending and borrowing clubs. Chelsea have plenty players out on loan not getting regular game time and this is just wrong, they are the ones who should be recalled and loaned out to other clubs who will actually play them. The whole point of Chelsea loaning players is development, bench warming is no use to Chelsea or the loan players. Chelsea have already blacklisted a number of clubs who have simply used loan players as a means to bulk out their squads on the cheap. Bournemouth regularly starting Ake is superb for us and the former should be commended for this, not penalised just because Ake is now playing well for them.
January 7, 20179 yr confirmed by eddie howe i genuinely think he can challenge alonso for the starting position, defensively no doubt he's way better than alonso
January 7, 20179 yr Author Can he play LWB though? I've only ever seen him play CB and DM. Does he have the pace and the energy to get up and down the wing all game?

January 7, 20179 yr I didn't think Moses could play wing back but Conte seen something in him so maybe he sees the same with Ake?
January 7, 20179 yr Eddie Howe confirmed we're looking to bring him back: “It looks like that will be the case that they will call him back, it’s not 100% finalised yet,” My guess would be that maybe we'll loan out Zouma for the second half of the season to progress his return from injury. Possibly going to West Ham as they're on the look out for loans from Premier League sides. Would be strange to recall him if there's intent to use him, perhaps his versatility is appealing as he could cover midfield with Oscar and Mikel leaving but also central and the left side of defence. We don't have a natural replacement should Alonso get injured and he took a knock against Stoke recently.

Couldn't agree more, still think he's suspect at CB but he can only improve playing with the likes of JT, Luiz and Cahill. As FC says his versatility allows him to provide cover for CB, LCB, LWB, and potentially CM Just hope he plays or he'd be better off staying at Bournemouth and us bringing in someone who is happy warming the bench. January 8, 20179 yr Hmm interesting development. Why not him, Luiz and Zouma as the Cbs and Azpi and Moses/Alonso as the wing backs.
January 8, 20179 yr BUT clearly he is not good enough (as has been told by some of the experts on this forum) and that we should simply buy the 60mil rated VVD. God bless Conte for showing us that if you perform well on loan, and if you have the quality, then you will get your chance instead of the club simply looking to buy the flavour of the months.
January 8, 20179 yr Hope he gets some minutes if hes recalled, would be a shame if he was just sitting on the bench after finally cracking the starting lineup for Bournemouth
January 8, 20179 yr I hate the loans system. I hate we have a chance to get a regular starter when we need one. Such a bad system. Buying in January over the odds is much better. I don't think Conte brings him back just to sit on the bench. Not sure if he is cover for wingback or cb...
January 8, 20179 yr No reason he can't get minutes in midfield alongside kante/matic, or push cahill or alonso out the team.
January 8, 20179 yr I don't mind us to bring him back, but only if he is going to get minutes with us. Very good player and can play regularly with us as well.

Pretty much this, has done well on loan at watfard and now Bournemouth but if you bring him back to just play the odd FA cup game and cover the bench then there is no point. I actually think we need competition for Alonso, and think Ake could easily do well there.
January 8, 20179 yr I don't mind recalling him, but bringing him back for cover as a wing back is something i'm not a fan of. I don't see Ake as a wing back, for me he is a CB. I was never really that impressed with him at Watford as a full back to be honest and i don't see him being that great as a wing back either.
January 8, 20179 yr Offensively he isn't as good as alonso, but defensively he is better no doubt. I think alonso decision making the spurs 1st goal was awful. He just dived in to tackle walker, which contributed to the first goal. If that was ake I feel he would have stayed with walker and maybe that goal wouldn't have occurred.
