Thibaut Courtois

Since 2015 Courtois has received more red cards and conceded more penalties than any other goalkeeper in the Premier League

I think that is because his main weakness is his decision making when coming off his line, sometimes he makes it out and wins the ball, but if he doesn't then it'll usually result in a penalty and/ or red card. That's the area of his game he needs to work on, his stopping is class and he's good under the high ball.

Probably the last person to criticize our players, but he should do much better. This season almost every half decent shot on goal was a goal, when we replaced Cech for him it was said that Courtois is a bigger potential due to his age. I fear he will never reach Cech's potential and in his prime Petr was easily top 3 keepers in the World.

His clean sheet record is abysmal, and his saves-per-goal-conceded record is laughable.

There have been SEVEN shots on target against us this season.

FOUR have gone in.

This is my main concern with Courtois, he doesn't make many saves. Imagine if he was playing for one of the bottom teams that are constantly under pressure.

Yes. Keepers are often described as 'good shot stoppers', the implication being they have other weaknesses such as being poor on crosses.

I certainly haven't seen much evidence that Courtois is a good shot stopper, as most shots seem to go past him.

He really hasn't lived up to the hype about him when he was with Athletico.

He's still young and can get a lot better, but right now he is nowhere near the level of consistency and dependability we had from Cech for over a decade.

True, but 2 of those came in the last game, and one was a penalty (that he was certainly at fault for giving away) and the other was the Cahill phuckup/missed foul

What gets me is when he first came we were all glad that finally we had a keeper that could claim crosses and command his area, unlike Cech who had fallen off a little in his final season with us.

I don't know if it's a complete mental thing, but his command has certainly disappeared

I have lost a little faith I must admit.

Still think he is one of the best at coming for crosses. But he does have a clanger in him. Im not sure his mental concentration is as good as some.

Lol, you never know how terrified I am anytime I see him rush out of the post to get the ball!

He will concede goals for fun and blame the defence for not being as good as the ones in the Belgian team.

I don't know what his problem is either but I know if he go back to Athleco Madrid he will get back to being rated among the top 10 GK in the world.

The Spanish newspaper Marca has published today an interview to Courtois. In it he says that he loves Spain and that when he left Madrid he knew that he will be back some day to play. He also replies to the question of "When" that he has 3 more years contract at Chelsea, and that in 2018 when he has to renew he will see what is the best option.

http://www.marca.com/futbol/premier-league/2016/09/20/57e02f2a268e3e24118b4592.html (it is in Spanish, for those of you that read the language)

So it looks like he is intending to stay until the end of the contract. I am divided with him, I think he is good and would like him to stay, but needs to improve many areas. And when I watch Atlético play, some times I wouldn't mind a swap for Oblak, but then again I keep thinking that any keeper that appears world class with Atlético's defence, will be sh*t with ours.

Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has been talking about the prospect of quitting the club in favour of a move to Spain.

The Belgium international spent three seasons on loan from the Blues at Spanish side Atletico Madrid earlier in his career – knocking his parent club out of the Champions League in his final season at the Vicente Calderon – and is clearly keen on a return move.

Courtois, aged 24, suggested he could quit Chelsea on a free transfer when his deal expires in 2019 if he decides that a switch to Spain is more appealing.

In an interview with Spanish newspaper Marca, the keeper was asked whether he still longed for Spain, he said: “Yes, but not only for the club, but how it is in Madrid and the whole country.

“From the first minute, I fell in love Spain for its people, lifestyle, food. I still maintain eating dinner and then having an afternoon nap. Most of the television I watch is in Spanish. I am half Spanish.”

On the prospect of a return to La Liga, he replied: “When I left Spain, I was clear that one day I would return.”

And asked to pin down when any such move might happen, Courtois said: “I have a contract at Chelsea for three seasons.

“In 2018, when I enter the final year of the contract, we will assess whether to renew or leave.”

Courtois moved to Stamford Bridge from Belgian side Genk in July 2011. Within weeks he was dispatched to Atletico to replace David De Gea. He stayed in Spain for the 2011/12, 2012/13 and 2013/14 seasons.

This really pisses me off. So all that about 'Got to bring him back now so he can be our keeper for the next 10 years' was total bullsh*t. And he really thinks the club are just going to let him walk away on a free, leaving us with no keeper and no cash in compensation? Feck him, if he wants to go to Spain so badly, pack his bags and drive him to the airport now.

It's not even news.  These types of articles appear all the time for many players.  He had a great time there, he's not going to slag them off.  End of.

This seems like a sensible response with no hate towards a player? I didn't know these comments were allowed on this forum!

He's never ever been on the bench, so his career must still be thriving and thus no hate was needed.

Just get the feeling he is itching to leave unfortunately.

Second time he has put out quotes which wont go down well with fans. If he was performing like a World-Class goalkeeper he might have the right. At the minute he isnt.

He's pretty good, but he's not progressing into the world class keeper I was expecting, at least not yet.

Cech at his age was much better, although Cech was probably the best in the world for the last decade, so bit harsh to judge him against him perhaps.

Real Madrid showed me a very nice gesture when I injured my knee last year, they sent me a fax to wish me a speedy recovery

another "misinterpretation"?

honestly he's starting to get on my nerves, im starting to think his recent sh*t performances is simply because he lacks motivation to play for the club

if that's the case than the twat can go f**k off

He's overrated

the club caved to his demand to be # 1 keeper, another poor decision in hindsight, mid table keeper at best now.

I'd say that's an over exaggeration, he's still quite good, however I don't think he's quite as good as he's made out to be. He doesn't command his area very well, it's a rarity to see him come and claim a corner or a cross. And to be honest I don't really recall him making all that many saves recently. On the plus side, he's pretty good at rushing out and closing down a one-on-one and i'd be fairly confident in that situation that he'd pull off a save, but long range efforts especially he lets too many in.
