Who the f**k is Emenalo

Featured Replies

I can sense some underlying discontent for a Nigerian in a high position at Chelsea. Certain comments I've read have made me wonder.

Which comments? I actually think what you're saying is absolutely disgusting.

If you disagree with people, fine. That's what people do.

To imply there is racism when people have thrown up many other reasons they're not happy with Emenalo is quite frankly ludicrous.

To quote a much-loved Chelsea legend of African descent, it's a f**king disgrace.

Ludicrous? The undercurrent of racism from a certain section is as clear as day.

Gone a bit quiet on the spurs,Liverpool, Arsenal forums?

No-one cares about his race/ethnicity, people care that our player recruitment, development and sale policy seems completely incoherent. The question is should the Director of Football be blamed for that which I think he is as his role is very ill-defined.

Like intentioned earlier, if Roman sacked emanelo and drogba/makelele came in as his replacement do you think anyone would moan?

By saying it is underlying racism you are shifting the focus away from the real reason people dislike or distrust the bloke, how he got the job with no experience, the question I have is how do you think he got the job of technical director? Did he show any signs of excelling in his previous appointments that would make a step up logical?

Nothing to do with Race it's more the fact he has no relevant football knowledge/experience for the role.

Exactly, he got the job because his tongue is in the right places, I bet his gagging for that managers job at some point like Grant got it.

If Drogba got the job then we can say how many years was he at Chelsea, he put his body on the line for the club and won many trophies. Experience is second to none and will have a real connection to the fans.

Gone on record slamming Spurs saying that Kane is the only youth product that Spurs produced. The rest were bought.

Surely that makes him a Chelsea legend now?!!

Technically it's true, although it's hard to deny that Danny Rose and Kyle Walker were basically made into players at Tottenham. And to be fair, you would think they would deny that... right?

p.s. I have never rated Kyle Walker and assumed at the beginning of the season that Kieran Trippier would step up and take his place.

p.p.s. My own drunken musings have made me even more convinced (and I was already convinced) that Pochettino is one hell of a manager.

There is a co-ordinated effort from everybody to want to make this happen,” said Emenalo when asked about the desire to promote homegrown players into the first team. “The owner wants it, the first-team coach wants it, the academy manager wants it, I want it, the board want it.

“Everybody wants this to happen, and not just because it is nice to have this backbone that fans can relate to and support. But with the investment we are making, where we think the game is going and the competition we have, you can’t just buy your way out of trouble all the time. We compare the guys in our academy sides to those we see across Europe and other clubs in England and we think we have very, very good young players who should be able to come through.

“It’s a massive job to try to keep them patient, but from next season there will be signs because [bertrand] Traoré came back from Vitesse Arnhem to be in the first team, Ruben Loftus-Cheek is here and will stay here, and they can look at somebody like Todd Kane, who has been outstanding [at NEC Nijmegen] in Holland and should come back and really compete for a place in the squad at right-back. There are signs this will happen and it will feed back to these players who are in the academy, and they will have hope.

Andreas Christensen [on loan at Borussia Mönchengladbach until 2017] will be a superb player. On the English front, as I know from talking to the England Under-19s coach Aidy Bothroyd, Clarke-Salter and Tomori [who is a Canada Under-20s defender but still eligible for England] are going to be outstanding players. If they continue the way they are going now, they will make it because they have great talent.” Another youngster, the striker Tammy Abraham, was the subject of a loan offer from an unnamed Champions League club in January but preferred to remain at Stamford Bridge.

“That’s what they hear,” said Emenalo. “I try to tell them the reality with Tottenham, that just the one key player [has come through in Harry] Kane. Dele Alli they bought, Tom Carroll is a fringe player and Eric Dier they bought. So with all the hoopla about Tottenham, it’s just the one player. We try to remind them it’s not just a Chelsea problem. We want them to be patient because [the parents] want it quicker than the boys want it or the boys are ready to take it.

Looks like our wishes will be granted. He is right about it not only being our problem, although with the young talent we have compared to most clubs we should be ahead of them

Ryan Mason? Townsend?

I feel like we've been seeing this said for quite a while now.

I'm going to hold onto that RLC quote cause I don't think him staying here next season is that clear cut.

And Todd Kane? Really? Would be a great reward for such loyalty but I don't see it ever happening.

in all seriousness, i hope this is a sign we're moving in a different direction. no longer paying large sums of money for a heap of players and instead bringing them through the youth system. we need to buy the odd 2/3 players obviously, but it's nice to hear the young players are being consciously recognised. however, this could be to appease the fans and media, who knows, but it's obvious for all to see that we have some fantastic youth players whom could walk into almost any top 10 club in any top european league.

Emenalo in 2013

“When I came here six years ago we had great players but what we had below those great players were players too young and too far apart to be able to integrate them. Now we have great players and they are not so far apart. Now we have a player like Frank Lampard at 35 but then we have quality players in Ramires, John Mikel Obi, Michael Essien and Marco van Ginkel, and then we have from the Academy young players who can come in and do the job like Nathaniel Chalobah and Josh McEachran.

“We are trying to bridge the gap and at left-back now behind Ashley Cole we have Ryan Bertand but we also have Patrick van Aanholt.

“We have Romelu Lukaku who soon will be able to come back in and Juan Mata is 25, Oscar and Hazard are 22 but behind them from the Academy, in terms of age, Lewis Baker, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Jeremie Boga are not too far away.

“What is happening with the Under-21 league is a good thing but it still doesn’t help with a talented Chelsea player at 20. He is aspiring to a higher level if you look at Kenneth Omeruo who is not even 20 yet, or Tomas Kalas.

“The loan process at Chelsea has become very professional and a good deal of thought has gone into it.

“We don’t send players out because we are trying to recover some money, we send them because we want them to play and develop and we want to monitor them. We have a system in place, headed by me and with Eddie Newton supported by [head of player welfare] Kevin Campello, that means we keep a close eye on them and the manager knows exactly what is happening at all times.

Emenalo in 2016

"Christensen will be a superb player.  I see on a regular basis that Jake Clarke-Salter and Fikayo Tomori are going to be outstanding players. They are young and I don't know if they decide to get fat. There's nothing I can do about that. If they continue the way that they are, they will make it because they have great talent, there's no doubt about that."

"There is a co-ordinated effort from everybody to want to make this happen. Not just because it feels good, and it is nice to have a backbone the fans can relate to and support. But with the investment we are making and where we think the game is going and the competition that we have, you can't just buy your way out of trouble all the time".

"We have a philosophy in the academy to teach them to play the right way, the way we think a big team should play. And ultimately the only way they can play that gives them a chance to play for our first-team.

So in 2013 the guys on the cusp were Nathanial Chalobah, Josh McEachran, Patrick Van Aanholt, Ryan Bertrand and Romelu Lukaku (who we bought so apparently doesn't count).

I actually agree with some of the sentiments because who wouldn't? They're so broad that everyone would. But he said in 2013 that players weren't being sent out on loan just to recover money - the five players above have all been sold, as will Kalas and Omeruo in all likelihood.

So it's not about words, it's not about skin colour and to be honest the way he was hired even becomes a side point - it's results. Pure and simple. That's not entirely his fault because no coach gets the time under Roman to actually develop young players in the side, which is why we need a proper Director of Football who has the power to give coaches some breathing room.

Roman and his expectations suffocate this talent. It takes us being 10th in the league for Loftus-Cheek to get minutes. We will never develop an identity or core of young players under Roman unfortunately and Emenalo being trotted out once every three years to talk about x,y and z player being on the cusp won't change that.

Nice dig at Spurs though, until you realise they might actually win the league.

Still not sold on Pochetino. What has he won? Even if he manages to win the league this year, this season has been an exception, not the norm.

He wasn't really expected to win anything with Southampton and hasn't been at Sp*rs that long but has already got them in a CL place and challenging for the title. On current form they are way ahead of us and that is down to him and I honestly would have taken him ahead of Conte (but obviously now we've got Conte, hope he turns things around).

Nope certainly not saying its because people disagree with me, I just find it incredibly odd how a single man is taking most of the blame just because our manager and the squad he moulded royally messed.

Yet somehow Emanalo is the enemy as he is solely responsible for not signing the players Jose wanted which all believe is Pogba and Stones. Quite frankly it's the most ridiculous reason to scapegoat someone as I have ever seen. There were no protests when Jose was winning until the moment he screws up.

Exactly my thoughts bro, last season when every thing was going fine nobody talked about Emenalo. But when Jose messed things up buy selling players that could have made an impact here and loan out some of our players with potentials. Started quarreling with Eva and criticized the team publicly, then suddenly Emenalo appeared from nowhere.

Wow! Sometimes I really feel pity for that poor fellow.

I've been quite consistent in my criticism of Emenalo and the clubs unclear recruitment policy.

For about five years now our overal transfer strategy hasn't been great.

Jose's second summer back being the anomaly.

Yeah very odd.

And I'm not playing any race card because I've lost an argument, makes no sense really. I just found it disrespectful that someone accused you of backing Emanalo because you are both African.
