Jose Mourinho thread

I'm sorry, but anyone here who thinks that Pep will dominate domestically for the next few years must have absolutely no knowledge about English football whatsoever. Being successful in Spain and Germany is all well and good...but the Premier League is where a manager really has to prove himself. Things are different over here. Very, very different. Leicester City winning the League last year proves my point... Anything can happen in the Premier League.

That might just be the weakest argument i have ever seen. That's like saying because Ranieri has won the league in the prem he would go and walk all other leagues because the Premier league is the hardest. If anything, Leicester winning the league this year shows how much the Premier league has declined and how weak it currently is. No teams challenging in Europe, big teams doing sh*te. I would agree if Pep had one team under his belt and not much more but he's done it in two different countries now. Can't just be coincidence.

Is there an unmentionable Elephant in the room?  Jose signed a new 4 year contract on Friday 7th August 2015 and on the following day the Carneiro incident resulted in her sacking and we forget the decline of Jose's position as emanating from this first game incident. Look at the situation immediately prior to the verbal tirade aimed at a doctor concerned for a player.  Courtois had been sent off and the referee had called medics on, so there was no need for his tirade.  This was such a pivotal moment that it simply indicated that if , in the future, Carneiro attempted to protect the immediate safety of any player in the team, then she should consider the state of play first and foremost contrary to her training, even if they see a life threatening situation unfolding. The players knew that Carneiro had their safety to consider and they saw Jose's treatment of her in the ensuing weeks. Refusing to acknowledge his own impetuous nature, things got from bad to worse. He had his new 4 year contract. Yes, it was his passion that gave him and the team their successes and may well lead to Red glory. But to imagine this great tactician to have been completely ignorant of the implications of showing contempt towards Carneiro appears ignorance in itself. The ensuing disinterest in the following matches by the players and, above all, team spirit, could reasonably indicate that he knew what  he was doing all along, & well before these events unfolded. Add the above to his admiration for "fergies legacy" and obvious friendship, it seems he was not looking at theshedend forum for ideas, but was more likely the master of his own destiny way before the Carneiro incident. All this time Van Gaal was allowed to tread water and lay a basis for a potential 'storytale' "come back" that may appear on the horizon. Couple of duff managers after fergie to cement his prowess and now for the special one. We know now that Jose has conveniently  remained available until now. We shall see if medics at m*fc cross him and he does not give them similar abuse as that given Carneiro he will either have learned his lesson or decided not to move on for a while by ostracising the whole club by stripping the trusted team medic of all dignity. You have to give him credit for his audacity in remaining in the club while all the fireworks were pointing towards him.  Master of himself and professor of schematics.

The "Jose the puppet master" theory has been suggested before. And that's all it is, a theory.

I don’t see any sinister/alternative motive in the Carneiro inncident.

It was a buildup of a poor start to the season, players losing interest…coming back unfit, the board not backing Jose with the players he wanted and the media questioning Jose because of the high standards of last season. He just lost control and acted like an idiot…he done the same at Madrid when the pressure was on.

I'm not saying that at all. Don't you understand? The fact that Claudio (the nearly man) Ranieri won the Premier League with Leicester shows just how crazy the Premier League is now. I just cannot imagine one single team going on to dominate over here for the next few years... Of course, I'm not trying to indicate that Pep will be a disaster at City (he may even win a League title). But he won't outright dominate like he did in Spain and Germany.

Or just shows how much the standards in this league has gone down. This might be the reason for us doing f*ck all in Europe in recent years.

The board did back Jose though, its just Jose's targets were terrible. Jose wanted Stones so we chucked money at him. Be honest, would you have wanted us to give Everton the £40m and for Stones to have had such a bad season at Chelsea?

Hector and Papy?

Nah I doubt it....

I'll be fascinated to see what changes José makes to Man Utd's squad and first XI. While they have disappointed in terms of being able to pick up consistent results, I think they fundamentally have the core of a very good side, and I think van Gaal has instilled a lot of defensive discipline into the players (which José can obviously build on) as well as blooding a good number of youngsters. I also think they have some decent squad depth (Jones, Blind, Lingard, Depay, Rashford).

I would have thought that Smalling will continue the good progress he's made over the past two years, and I also imagine that Shaw will evolve into one of the top full-backs in the country. Schneiderlin and Herrera seem like the most obvious midfield partnership (although I have thought that for most of the season), with Rooney (we know José is a fan) and Martial in front of them. I think their main additions will be a more commanding centre-back and a top-level wide player.

Yes because we saw so much of these players at Chelsea to completely write them off. Hector had a fantasic season at reading. Had Mourinho not spat his dummy out and actually used Djilobodji we might have had a bargain on our hands and better options than Ivanovic, Cahill and that awful American at CB towards the end of the season.

The fact is Mourinho wanted us to spend £40m on John Stones who is bang average but has good distribution so gets a better reputation than he should. We would have been even worse off if we weren't priced out and actually managed to sign his targets.

I really don't think that will be the case. If things don't go well and the football served up is dull, he will get stick. Already talk of Zlatan being lined up and that won't go down well with Utd fans - especially if it means Rashford slips down the pecking order.

I'm not sure, there is another recent article that states ‘Jose Mourinho is the man to save Manchester United - and Chelsea fans know it more than most’, it goes on to say that football is about winning, not style, funny considering that apparently it was the opposite when he was at Chelsea, I don't trust the journos to be impartial for a second.

Reading an account of the Caneiro case from March, it appears that she is seeking a personal apology from Mourinho and that texts, emails and allsorts are going to be seen at the tribunal in June (not sure how that would work with the Euro's being on). Also Fearns, Morinho and various Chelsea players could be called as witness's at some point.

Talk about messy, this could be dynamite or a total damp squib, if Man U decide they don't want their manager embroiled in controversy before he even dons his new tracksuit, and ask him to apologise nicely.

I can't see that happening tbh, I don't think Jose is the apologising type.

Ok I'll entertain he did want them.

SO why did he allow Hector to stay at another club and why did he not play papy?

I mean if he wanted these players he would have used them right?

I rest my case.

Do we think Jose has always wanted to manage United? It will be all clear in his first presser/ interview as to what he wanted as along. If that is true, he was just playing us all along then. If he truly loved Chelsea and thought this of his own club, he would never have managed our direct rival.

I think you have completely missed my point. No, you have completely missed the point.

I stated that Mourinho's target was Stones. We backed him by offering ridiculous amounts of money for a young lad that had just come off the back of an average season. We were then priced out of a move unless we stumped up a substantial fee and i'm sure a lot of people are now glad we were priced out. We gave Mourinho good alternatives in Papy and Hector. Mourinho threw all his toys out and refused to play them instead of giving them a chance in the team to actually assess how they might be in a real life game situation (more Papy than Hector). Papy proved in Germany he would have more than capable and with how our defense went would it actually have been any worse?

For some reason you seem to think i said Papy and Hector were Mourinho targets? Nope.

No it wont be clear.

He will be wooing the United fans just as he did Us when he came back in 2013. Its just a Job for him at the end of the day.

We sacked him, loyalty is a two way street and he is entitled to go where he likes, to imagine that any manager or player is truly in love with any club is a bit naïve in this day and age imo

sorry this was in reply to hemil's post.. still can't get quote to work.

*cough* John Terry *cough*

Yeah Terry is an exception but in the main especially where managers are concerned, they tell fans what they want to hear. The Jose/United love in could get rather nauseating in the next couple of Months, but its all just a chat up line.

He is a 3 season love affair imo

Mourinho was handed a squad with several gaping holes this season while umited spent nearly 150m to plug the gaps in their squad.

Mourinho would have challenged for the title with the current united squad.

No way Jose would have won the league with that United side this season.

I honestly think if Mourinho was appointed manager of Man Utd at the beginning of the season or even December they would of challenged or maybe won the league. It didn't take a team of high quality to win it this year.

LVG defiantly underachieved after spending 250m. He kept playing players in there wrong positions and Mourinho would of made players like Fellani, Smalling and Schneiderlin even better.

What's he supposed to do, go back and manage Uniao Leiria? We sacked him, twice. He's entitled to go and find employment with another club. It was exactly the same with Lampard. Fully half the forum wanted us to get rid of him, we didn't renew his contract and then everyone was moaning when he showed up at Man City and started scoring a few goals. Can't have it both ways.
