Don't really think it is fair to blame him at all on the first goal. He tried a chip pass the did not come off.

Don't take anything away from Modric, he has absolutely no right to make a pass that perfect that way but he did. It was an outstanding and ridiculous piece of skill and technique.

Much as it stings it happened to us if you can take off the Chelsea specs for a minute you can appreciate that two amazing deliverys by Modric, one here one on goal 2 at the bridge, are just as much the reason Real went through as we're our mistakes.

Fernandinho has announced today that he is leaving Citeh. Perhaps give Pep a call and see if he fancies taking Kante off our hands? I think we've all had enough of him. Slows our play down so much and he couldn't tackle his dinner.

Not anymore Dan. The way he teed up Modric for that simple out-side of the boot first time pass and assisted the back-post volleyed finish. And then he made Rudiger slip over for the Benzema header.

You think attempting such a high-risk pass - given the situation of the match - was the right thing for Kante to do?

As much as I still think he has a lot to offer, thank god we’ve got Gallagher coming back into the team, even if it’s not immediate he is a fantastic fit to replace Kante long term

He needed to make a pass was it the wrong one? Yes due to an insane pass by Modric. Is not like he passed to  ball to a real player on edge of our box.

Kante mistakes cost us last night for both goals. Others can dress it up all they want. Yes Modric pass was out of their world. Yes Rudi slipped. But simply out, if Kante hadn't made those silly schoolboy mistakes then the goals madrid scored wouldn't have happened. 

 

Overall in the tie I give more emphasis to the Mendy brain fart and Big Donkey missed header when free in the middle of the goal.  But no doubt for me that Kante undid an amazing amount of good work last night with his stupid play.

Kante has set such incredibly high standards that as soon as he isn't playing like the Kante trio we are used to, there are questions.

Maybe the knocks are catching up with him and at 31 he is now on a downward spiral. The fact he has recently been fasting due to ramadan could also have had an impact - similar to Salah.

Will be down to TT in the end as to whether Kante remains a key player for next season and beyond or whether we see Gallagher as the future or take a punt on Mwepu at Brighton who has looked very impressive the few times I have seen him.

12 years ago we had no succession plan for the old guard and the rebuild required when they declined set us back years (in terms of league performance).

As much as I hate to say it Klopp is mastering this aspect of squad building at the moment, Mane and Salah still in around their primes, does he rest on that? No, two other top class wide forwards signed in two season's.

Real Madrid already did that with the young Camavinga. That's pretty impressive that they have this 19 year old that is already contributing for them in big games, specially since I thought that Casemiro was having a great game against us, a few times he played his way out of our press without any help in tight spaces and yet when Camavinga came on it looked like Casemiro took a break and Camavinga was doing all the running and chasing down for him. Pretty good investment, that youngster can play in any system by the looks of it.

I don't think Tuchel is ready to let Kante go, but to have an extra player with such energy and tempo would be great for us.

We don't need to let Kante go. However he needs to play less and we need his replacement (Gallagher imo) to get lots of involvement.

I agree, though Gallagher is a different profile, but it sounds great on paper to have for example Mount and Gallagher on the pitch at the same time.

It is ideal in a midfield 3 with the right holder. Which would not be Kova and means he is dropped, making it unlikely.

More likely Mount stays as part of the front line up but I am unsure if a duo of Kova and Gallagher will work. Time will tell.

If we went 433 our ideal midfield options would be:

 

Rice/Bissouma/another holder

 

Kante/Gallagher

Mount/Kova

Why single me out? All I have said is that Kante isn't having a good season, and I mainly put that down to injuries. It's not like I have ever asked for him to be sold. I have always said that when Kante is at his best, he is the best player in the team alongside Silva, but because of injuries, we haven't been able to see much of that Kante this season. I am as harsh on Kante as I am with any other player that isn't playing as well as they can play. I don't do agendas.

Last time he had a world-class season was in 17/18.

Also world-class after Tuchel arrived last season but other he's never repeated those otherwordly seasons that he had in his first couple of years here. Probably mostly down to injuries and mismanaging from Sarri & Lampard though in my opinion.

I'd say only world class in the champs league last year. I wouldn't say he was that great in the PL. 

It's injuries and age. He's one of the few players that can put in a genuine 10/10 performance, and still can today. But they are rare.

I suspect a Gallagher or Kovacic can put in more consistent 8/10s next season. 

If we got a silly offer, 70-80m from a PSG (the only foreign club that would) I'd bite the hand off.
