August 31, 20169 yr People saying he's a big game player forget his performance in Naples. I'm not even going to go there. I will be truly dismayed if we sign him, but I'll just have to trust Conte. Personally, I see it as short-sighted. We have 5 players who can play CB, if we include Alonso, we actually have depth in that department, contrary to what people are saying, whereas we only have two strikers, for example, which seems incredible. People will ask about quality in those CB positions and that's a fair point, but if Zouma comes back as before (and I admit it's a big 'if") we have a great first choice CB partnership, one that will certainly do for this season, and in Cahill, Ivanovic and Alonso, we'll have better cover than most, that's for sure. Yes, there are questions over all our CBs, and the addition of a genuinely top-notch CB would be most welcome, we all know that, but surely they would have to be top-notch? Why? Well, first to justify the price tag, secondly because we have Christensen coming back next year and we won't want to stifle his development, if indeed he's the real deal as he appears to be. If we buy big, that player will be a fixture in our defence for the foreseeable you'd assume, at least that will be the plan, and for that reason I'd rather have a player the manager has earmarked for that role, rather than a last-minute afterthought. I just don't understand the last minute panic when it comes to CB. We are not in Europe, our resources won't be stretched, I'd rather wait and get a stopgap signing in if needs must, wait until the right player comes along. Terry has a good season, as I suspect he will, Zouma comes back firing, Christensen returns, suddenly all this money spent on David Luiz might seem a bit unnecessary. If this Koulibaly is all he's cracked up to be, then sure, spend the money and get him in, or this Romagnoli, who would be an investment for now and the future. These are top class defenders apparently and would be worthy of throwing into the mix, even if we had a lot of quality in that department next summer it's always worth upgrading if you can. Luiz? He'd cost a lot, he's probably past his peak, and his signing would ensure we don't go after Conte's top targets next summer, which would be disappointing. I want us to go after Koulibaly hard next summer if that's who the manager wants. I don't want him signing for City and Utd if he's that good. We've already made that mistake once with Stones. I mean, if we're going to spend 40 million on this guy, why not just bite the bullet and spend 60 million on the guy Conte really wants, who's younger and has resale value. I just don't understand it. And if Naples say no? Fine, we'll make do, that's my point. We'll wait, thank you very much. We're okay, we're not too bad. Luiz has bags of ability but he's a liability defensively because he's unreliable. You need reliability from your defenders. An erratic defender is a bad defender. On his game he knocks spots off most CBs but that's irrelevant as far as I'm concerned. Top players are consistent. Luiz may be consistent in the French league, I don't know, but the fact he's played in France these last few years hardly bodes well, I mean how much can he have improved, playing against sub-standard strikers? Those basic errors that he continually made, do we think he's ironed them out? I have my doubts. He's a great personality and I have nothing against him, I actually like the guy, but there are some players I look at and wish we'd never sold them, such as Felipe Luis, Kevin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku, and I can't say I've ever had that feeling about David Luiz. Selling him wasn't a mistake. Buying him back? For me it wouldn't be too clever, but hey, if that's what the manager wants who are we to argue. He lives and dies by his decisions. I just hope this turns out to be a good one if it happens.

August 31, 20169 yr if he comes we will have 5 potential CBs, and a proper wb in alonso. Will this move signify 3-5-2? Where would Hazard play? Would we bring in another striker? Otherwise, I'm not sure I see the point in this move. Unless we are bringing him back to play midfielder role? this is just a confusing move.

True, Chelsea only have 2 forwards and Costa will be banned at some point

August 31, 20169 yr Big game player, big personality, athletic, familiar to Chelsea and Prem. Liability in defense, doesn't stick to plan, wants to do everything. I like him but this is desperate and our transfer policy needs to change.
August 31, 20169 yr Who would have thought our search for a central defender this summer would lead to David Luiz? I can almost hear Jim White jizzing in his canary yellow y-fronts from here.

August 31, 20169 yr Well if he's coming, I doubt we can question his commitment. He wears his heart on his sleeve

I remember someone posting something in the midst of our very low point last season a long the lines of "at least if Luiz was out there you'd know he was trying". There was a huge question mark over player commitment last year, but I don't think we are suffering that at the moment and I don't think Luiz should be gifted a starting spot. Great club man though
August 31, 20169 yr Wait what? This is actually happening? Plus side is the wife will be happy and stop nagging me about "What happened to Luiz, I liked him" every time Chelsea is on the telly Edited August 31, 20169 yr by Xfaxtor
