Compare that with Klopp and his full backs playing CL and PL games every week. Alonso just has a bad attitude and thinks he’s better than he actually is. The last third of the season. Yes. The first half, not so much. So basically, I haven't had any complaints about Sarri since March, because I agree, the squad rotation March, April, May was just fine.

May 30, 20197 yr We would probably have to keep Zappacosta if we sell Alonso. Otherwise we would just have Azpi, Emerson, and James for fullbacks. And it's unlikely we have a youth player to promote in the LB position - Castillo is as good as gone, and Dasilva is likely leaving too. Edit: This is assuming we do have the transfer ban in place for this summer. Edit #2: I don't think it has been confirmed that Aina is leaving, so if we could keep him that would certainly help. Torino has the option to buy, but Aina would have to agree to the deal. So... Premier League and Champions League Football while splitting time with Emerson? or 1st Choice at Torino? not a done deal that he's gone yet.

If it's just he and Emerson splitting time, you'd think it would be an easy choice to come back to Chelsea, but I seem to recall reading that he really likes it at Torino.

May 30, 20197 yr Author We can't afford to sell so many players if we have a transfer ban, it would be bloody stupid.

To be fair, if any club can afford to offload a number of players during a transfer ban, all while the sales minimally affect the first team depth, it's Chelsea. But agreed, we can't go sell-crazy. It needs to be our loan army primarily.

I don't know that too many 1st team players will be moved... but if we can get out from Alonso's long term contract, pocket 30M cash, and bring in Aina... I'm all for it... Same for Zappa... I'm content with James replacing Zappa and making some money on the deal.
May 30, 20197 yr Alonso has 4 years left on his contract, we're in no hurry to sell unless a massive offer comes in. Even next summer we can demand near maximum value since he'll still have 3 years left. I'd keep him for rotation

Both had one off seasons way above their usual level. But at least they made very important contributions to us winning another title.

May 31, 20197 yr If he wants to go, and they want to buy, then this should absolutely get done ... it's a get out of jail free card for that ridiculous 5 year contract he got given ...
May 31, 20197 yr That said if he wants to go badly enough would be happy to let him leave and keep Jay Da Silva as Emersons Backup.
May 31, 20197 yr anything more than 35m and I'll take that without a doubt. More than happy to go this season with Emerson starting and Reece James as a back up.

I would much rather have Alonso, he's a much better player. I don't share the same enthusiasm for some of our younger players that people on here do. Some of them have decent potential, but that is it at the moment. I personally think the one player from our young players that is ready to be included in the main squad is already here, Hudson-Odoi. I don't think any of the others are ready yet. Mount, Abraham, James, Da Silva, I just don't think they good enough right now. I'm okay with bringing one or two back, but not all four right now, it would weaken our squad, not improve it.

Reece James is a right back. You're asking an inexperienced player to fill in a position that he has never played before. There is nothing to suggest that he would do a better job than Alonso would.

In that case, I would suggest Azpi, Reece James on the right. If Azpi is getting past it, then I would love to sign Wan-Bissaka! Have Zappa as back up and we're good. Left back is going to be a little tricky to sort out if Alonso leaves then, Emerson is a little injury prone so we'll definitely need to strengthen there
