Alex Sandro

He's not average 'compared to' anyone. An average is a median value, it's taken from a broader base than just two. He's shorter not average. This height obsession does my nut in anyway. If a player is sh*t at jumping, A la Matic, then a shorter player with a better jump will win headers majority of the time. Alonso is great, I love him, but Sandro is world class, alonso is very good but not on his level. If we need more height play alonso against the likes of West Brom, but majority of teams don't just thump balls to the back post hoping ofr the best, and i'd rather Sandro there for his pace against fast wingers. There's always pros and cons, but Sandro's pros far outweigh his cons

Well, I havent seen Bakayoko play,so I could only compare their height. So if hes a better jumper, thats fine replacing Matic.

But we are talking about Sandro here who is no match for Alonso aerially whether it be jumping or height. In UCL matches, I would go for Sandro. But when facing PL rivals like ManU and Spurs [I am talking about title rivals only, otherwise we have West Brom and more teams and suppose its a 1 goal lead after 85mins, all bottom half teams just bombard us with crosses, in the PL]  who are very good aerially, I would always select Alonso.

This will be more significant if we somehow manage to sign Verratti and want to play him alongside Kante.

Compared to Matic (194), Bakayoko (184) is average and compared to Alonso (188), Sandro (181) is also average.

And Alonso, alongwith Cahill and Luiz won the most headers for us last season. And for those headers along the wings, whether in defense or attack, I cant recollect Alonso losing out on any. That tactic to put in aerial balls towards Alonso while attacking, which was used a lot and successfully too, wont work that good with Sandro.

Ashley Cole was 176. What is your obsession with height? Maybe we should replace Costa and Batshuayi with Carroll and Crouch and just go look for the tallest players for every position. This way we're guaranteed to dominate aerial duels vs every opponent. Granted, we're going to be sh*t at passing, dribbling, tackling, crossing and scoring, but who cares about that stuff.

“A substantial offer has arrived.”

“We have no intention of selling anyone, but if a player decides to leave, as has happened in previous years, then at the end of the day he has to go, because we don’t keep anyone against their will.”

“But at the moment there are no such situations and I hope nobody will leave.”

IMO this comment feels like Juventus are quite open to selling him. If they had no interest in selling him they would publicly say he's going nowhere and issue a hands off warning

50 million plus is a huge sum for a LWB and Juventus have always been quite willing to sell their best players down the years

What part of "we have no intention of selling anyone" looks like they are quite open to the idea?

Bit different from Bayern's statement on Lewandoski, ehy?

The "but" part.

So short of threatening to report clubs to FIFA means they are quite open to selling. Jesus you guys are seeing what you want. Im sure Bayern would sell Lewa if he refused to play for them as well, that's normal in today's world. We'd consider 100m for Hazard especially if he wants to go but that doesn't mean we're open to selling him does it? I've been saying this since the beginning, Sandro will need to push for this move. That's the easiest way for it to happen and again we look like we're about to find ourselves at a disadvantage in a prolonged transfer negotiation.

Maybe I'm out of the loop but does the player want to leave Juventus? What's more, does he want to come here if he does? They have no intent to sell, they don't need to sell and it looks like he's perfectly happy there. Time to move on to Plan B. At a certain point it's not worth the time or money to keep this up, that's economics. We could buy Aubameyang for 70m for Christ's sake

OK, we're just using different definitions of 'open to'  but I think we agree on where Juve stand.

If I've understood you correctly, you take 'open' to mean actively looking to sell. Well, as far as any of us know, you're correct about that, Juve are not actively looking to sell. They are however prepared to do so under the right circumstances, and that is how I interpret the phrase, 'open to'.

For example, when Wenger says he would prefer to allow xyz player to run down his contract than to sell him, that's what I call not open to selling. Of course whether we should believe Wenger when he says that is another matter. Clubs have shown in the past that they can resist a player's determination to leave but it's a risk. On the whole, Juve's attitude seems sensible.

None of us know of course but it would be unusual for a club to pursue a player without some encouragement. That encouragement may be real, or it may be in furtherance of the player's own agenda, but it must exist, and the club must believe in it, for them to continue.

Where I do take issue with you, and please correct me if I've misinterpreted you, is your apparent implication that you know something the club's executives do not. We can agree, can't we, that they wouldn't maintain a chase for a player if they did not believe there to be a chance of success? If you and I can give each other credit for not being stupid, then surely we can apply the same assumption to the people handling this bid.

Seriously, how much better is he than Alonso? I don't think Alonso will settle for the backup LWB, I could see him moving on if we sign Sandro. That could be a shame, because Alonso has been excellent last season.

Much better. Think back to when we replaced Del Horno with Cole.

Alonso is a lot better than del horno. That is a ridiculous relative comparison.

If you are an optimist what you see is juve like the price and want to sell but to keep the fans happy it has to look like the players decision.

He is a great wingback from what I saw when juve played and we need more strength in that area.

Admittedly not seen much of Alex Sandro. Read something in the media today that suggests he is the second best LB in the world after Marcelo, fair statement?

Very fair, especially considering Alaba's performances have dipped a bit recently. I think Sandro's better than Marcelo defensively but Marcelo is still in another world offensively. Which is not to diminish Sandro fantastic offensive output. Marcelo is just unbelievably elite going forward.

Fair enough. A few players vying for that titte and he is certainly in the running
