I am genuinely more surprised that people expected Sandro, Vidal, Mahrez etc this month... and were actually serious

For 15m it's not the worst deal in the world.  He's still young so has time on his side.  It's one of those deals that I don't mind either way if it happens or not.

Fine with this - we need reinforcements In that area badly and nothing I've seen of RLC so far suggests he's quite ready yet.

Let's hope Antonio wants him and this isn't a board signing.

Barkley for me is us wanting a british-born player. If we get him for 15m why not but not much more. He has great potential but I feel he is somehow trapped in time in a sense he thinks he can have stinkers and it is okay.

Brilliantly put on both ends. 

Problem with barkley is that he wants to do it all, which will only increase when he spends most of the season on the bench (which he will if he comes here). So i dont see him improving at all.

He wanted to do it all at a club he was born to where he was constantly told he was the bestest thing in the world ever. Him moving to a bigger club where he will be a small fish in a bog pond might be the making of him, hopefully it will humble him enough to see him dig in and become a better player. Conte wont let him be biilly big balls at Chelsea I can guarantee that.

I thInk it’s a good deal, £15m in today’s market is great. English as well which we do needed. 

If it doesn’t work out, I’m sure we will at least get our money back.

I don't think we will get either Barkley or Carroll.

For me Barkley has more tools in the box than RLC though the latter has more time to learn them.

If we were to acquire him, I don't think he would be a regular.

Ok, so my view on this is that it could actually be a very clever signing, because initially I felt the same way about this as I did about Danny Drinkpints, but he's turned out to be a very good signing, whenever he plays I'm impressed with him and he's certainly a more finished product than Baka, (who i think will come good with more hard work on his defensive side). So Barkley for me is a very Drinkwater-ish signing, and could surprise us. That's my hope.

Fair enough, but i dont think I am that optimistic about him.

Its his 8th season as a professional footballer, and the tendency to do it all will be ingrained in him. I dont see much improvement in draxler despite playing for PSG. Only thing is he has world class players surrounding him and the opposition is a notch lower. Draxler is as frustrating as barkley to watch, and quite similar.

In all honestly its fairly clever, we have knocked 20m off his valuation and he's been injured and not played a game. Sensible business by all accounts.

My slight query is wouldn't he and Loftus Cheek almost play the same position ? both probably prefer the Central Attacking Midfielder role and with Cesc, Drinkwater, Kante, Baka and potentially Barkley & Loftus Cheek we have a strong midfield.

It sounds like there is only a medical for Barkley to complete today before he will become a Chelsea player. He’s fit now so that shouldn’t be an issue. £15m is a bargain in the current market #cfc

BBC Sport and Sky Sports both picked up the Story as an official source now. 

 

Usually when both pick it up its fairly clear its a done deal. Happy with this.

How much Palace have you watched?

He's been one of their best though granted, injured 2-3 times now this season.  Would hardly call Barkley reliable in that area though.  Hasn't even played this season.

15 million is pocket change these days (still feels weird to say that) so it's worth a punt. He probably has the talent to make it here, the question marks are over application and whether he can stay fit.

He'll probably spend a lot of time on the bench at first but I think it's worth remembering that Pedro, Cesc and Willian aren't getting any younger. For this reason I don't think it's necessarily a bad omen for RLC's Chelsea career either.

I think he is a good buy at £15m. Not sure how much playing time he will get.

On another note looking at our CM/CDM with the exception of fabregas they will all be under 27. So they could really play together for a few years if it works well.

Similar career trajectory to Lamps? 5-6 seasons at their boyhood club then move to Chelsea when they're 23/24? Similar goal returns too.

 

Lets hope he has half the career Lamps had with us.
