I would still play him over Higuain though. Higuain will perform terrible 9 times out of 10, at least we can actually get some decent performances out of Giroud.

Disagree, id go Higuain his touch and when he can be bothered to stay onside his movement is better. You can actually pass it to Higuain sometimes and get it back. Giroud has such a bad touch.

I don't see anything about him that suggests he should be starting ahead of Giroud. The fact that he is offside so often is proof that his movement isn't good, he's timing it wrong. There has also been a fair few amount of times where he hasn't even tried to get on the end of crosses, he never throws his body into dangerous areas. He moves like a tank, he is slow to react to everything, his link up play is worse than anybody at the club. His performance against United was possibly the worst performance from a striker I have seen all season, he looks finished. Giroud is far from ideal, but I would prefer him over Higuain every week. At least Giroud performs well now and again.
May 2, 20197 yr Think we should take our chances with Michy and Tammy if we have a transfer ban. Can’t be any worse surely? At least we’d have a bit of pace up top anyway.

The problem is, I don't think Batshuayi will ever suit our style of football. He's a striker that needs to always be facing the goal. Playing Batshuayi in this Chelsea team would be like playing Hazard as a false 9. I'm still not convinced by Abraham either. Performing well in the Championship is a lot different than performing well in the Premier League, just look at him at Swansea last season. I also don't think he will want to play back up, he will want to be playing. I don't think Sarri will even give him much of a chance if he was to stay with us next season.

They re-signed fan favourite Bony. Got rid of their most creative player and then the whole team started to struggle badly. I don’t think that’s a fair thing to assess him on. Kane wasn’t half as good on loan lower down before getting the chance at Spurs. I’m not saying Tammy will make it to that level but we’ll never know if we don’t give him a chance. 25 goals in a season in the championship isn’t to be scoffed at.

Meh, sorry, but it doesn't impress me. I have seen countless strikers over the years score 20+ goals in that division but look absolute w**k in the Premier League. I agree with you overall though, it would be worth a shot to give him a go.

For a 21 year old to score over 25 goals (possibly 30 by the time the playoffs are done) in a tough league like the championship deserves recognition in my opinion. Plus we ‘should’ be a much better side than villa to play in which should also help with the step up to the PL as opposed to going to a Swansea aka relegation fodder! We’ll see if he gets his chance next year I suppose! Plus JT who’s trained with Drogba waxes lyrical about him, that’s enough for me! Edited May 2, 20197 yr by EdinburghBlue

One of my biggest worries with Abraham, and it always has been, is that he is fully reliant on the delivery of his team mates. You will rarely see him score a goal by himself, and with how poor we are at getting the ball into the area, I could easily see him struggling for goals. It was the same at Swansea, the delivery was poor and he struggled to have any impact. Almost all of his goals from open play comes from good delivery into the box.
April 25, 20206 yr Matt Law from the Tele reporting that we have taken up our option to extend Giroud for another 12 months. Great news in my book. Good pro who did well when he came back into the fold. Can see his movement and interplay working very well with Ziyechand whichever other players join us. Edited April 25, 20206 yr by Spiller86
April 26, 20206 yr Good resigning in my opinion considering no one knows how things are going to go next season. Showed he still has an impact on games when he played back end of this season.
April 26, 20206 yr This is not good, he was really willing to leave and will once again be unhappy. The only way he won't be unhappy is if we don't sign any striker and that would be really a bad idea not to sign another striker as we really need one. I was hoping he would leave, I don't want the same thing to happen to Pedro and Willian now as well.

April 27, 20206 yr Hmm.. If Giroud wants to stay I think this is win-win for us. I can't imagine Frank has promised him anything.

Like Pedro, you'd never know it. No quotes in the media and always 100% effort when his name is called. Supportive of his teammates. I'm a huge fan of their professionalism.
April 27, 20206 yr A massive brick wall of a centre forward with a top-notch professional attitude? You sure he's French?
May 12, 20206 yr Not sure if I missed this with everything going on in the real world, but did Giroud resign for another year.
May 20, 20206 yr “It is clear to the club that Olivier continues to be a player we want in the squad, especially as we maintain the important balance between top-quality experience and the exciting young talent we have available, and his attitude when asked to play a supporting role has been exemplary. He is a proven trophy winner who we hope can help our new generation to become that too.” -Marina Granovskaia;
May 20, 20206 yr Good news. He has been underused this year but is a good club man and has played a solid role whenever he has started. Opens the door for us to get a young pacey striker who could play in combination with him. Edited May 20, 20206 yr by Spiller86

Acted like a professional all season, wanted to leave in January which I don’t think you could argue with but didn’t have a paddy when it didn’t happen. Grabbed his chance with both hands when it came and then football got corona’d off unfortunately. Great example to have around the club for all these youngsters.
