Olivier Giroud to Chelsea

Featured Replies

He's capable of the sublime one moment (his highlights reel makes him look as good as Messi) but the beyond stupid the next something which was clearly in evident last night with his sublime one two with Eden for the goal and some other clever bits of play but equally screwed up some easy passes.

Great asset to have but if/when AM9 sorts his sh*t out he will probably be the plan B.

Thought he played ok last night. Hold up play was good, linked with others well. His passing let him down in the first half but I think he was trying too hard to impress. Didn’t try to hide or come off with two bad injuries so his character looks good.

At the moment I'd agree, does a much better job holding the ball up and bringing others in to play and we play better football with him in the side.

Hopefully Alvaro takes the competition as a challenge to improve and gets back to the early season form and kicks on from there to become our main striker.

I was completely against signing him, but he's done well in the 2 games he has started in. Barcelona is a huge game and i think i would prefer Giroud to start over Morata right now.

Morata needs to learn, we can't afford to go into the game with a striker that will fall to the ground from the slightest contact. The striker's link up play could be the difference between us getting something out of the game.

On the flip side, Morata might gets the calls in Europe.

Links up well with willian and hazard, wouldnt be top scorer in the league but with the quality he has either side of him we dont need that. The front 3 works well with him and i would be happy for him to be out number 1 option going forward.

What to do with Morata is the question...

I'm expecting us to go with a false 9 against Barcelona, but i really hope we go with Giroud. He's just a better option right now. He looks determined to prove himself and his link up play is decent.

Surprisingly for an ex-Arse player, his one-touch play isn't that crisp, but he does bring something to the team that we have been missing lately.

Wait what? Isn’t your “9” meant to be a goal scorer?

I keep seeing good linkup play, holds the ball up well. Very confusing when we rate our forwards on every metric bar goal scoring. Just a reminder he went 3months I think without scoring a goal for Arsenal.

Turned it around with his goal, both of them were superb goals also especially the first one.

Would bench Morata from now on after that pitiful performance.

Anyone still wanting Morata to be our no1 for the remainder of the season, needs to set his priorities right.

Giroud should be leading us.

I actually like this arrangement of starting Morata and having Giroud come in as a sub. The substitution needs to happen earlier like today and not in the 80th minute and beyond. I think it is important to give Morata his run of games instead having him in the bench and since Chelsea has nothing to play for right now (Except FA cup).

Possibly the logical thing to do but I think we should give Giroud a start after that performance. However, the other guy you quoted wants to sell Morata after one season so it's unlikely you'll have him agreeing with you there.

Fair enough - had you asked me after the Barcelona performance, I would have most likely agreed with him on selling of Morata, but now i have cooled down on that. Wised up maybe ?

If we had won our game against whu, we would have been 5 points off pool with a game at SB, and pool playing in CL. anything can happen. Morata should not have been starting, and he should not start unless he "deserves" to. On merit, on performances, he simply does not. If he earns it, then fine, but just because we paid a higher price for him, does not give him the right to start.

PS - This is actually torres all over again.

I get what you are saying and like the optimism - but the loss to Tottenham is the clearest indicator to me that we dont have the mettle to finish in the top 4.  Right now i am more in the opinion of playing Odoi, palmieri and other players who need more experience that trying for the top 4.

I am sure a lot of people will not agree with me, but i hope we dont qualify for the Europa league and that next year we just concentrate on the league and win it.
