April 30, 20188 yr The double header loss to Bournemouth/Watford now looks like the most important points we've dropped in about a decade. Absolutely sickened we lost both games at the time but looking back on what could have been, makes it even worse. We've had some stinkers too in recent times, I mean, had we hung on or actually killed off against West f**king Ham, we could beat Pool, and go above them, its the fine margins that piss me off. Another way of looking at it is, if we do finish 5th and lose out on GD to Pool, this is a Pool team that is meant to be all conquering, swash buckling, getting rave reviews from pundits across the land and a piss poor Chelsea side, by our high standards, would have been pipped to CL football by goals scored and our own ineptness when it really mattered. No matter what way you cut, we're still a better side than at least 50% of the current top 4 and I'm certain we'll be top 4 next year at a minimum, with or without Conte.
April 30, 20188 yr Wouldn't count on Watford to get anything against Spurs, they are safe and relegation and won't moving up too much up the ladder even if they win all remaining games, on the other hand Spurs has everything to play for. It's a real pity with 3 rounds to go we are relying on teams in the bottom half and relegation zone to play out of their skins
April 30, 20188 yr Yes, but I know I’d rsther them to play against teams that are trying to avoid relegation rather than a mid table team with nothing to play for.

Imagine Conte having Gomes & Alexander Arnold as defence options. Firmino, Mane, Salah, Chamberlain, Keita are all examples of purchases specifically for the Klopp style of high press. About 200m on very mobile, quick players. Notwithstanding of course some youth promotions. They hired a manager to implement a style and then they bought the players that suited that style. Not much for Klopp to moan about. We need to pick a manager whose style we believe in and do the same.

May 5, 20188 yr I see Spurs winning vs Newcastle next week. I also see them losing to Leicester in the final match of the season. Win the next 3 and if this scenario plays out 4th spot is ours! I know Leicester can put up a fight I couldn't have asked for a better team outside the top 6 to play Spurs. Cmon VARDY

Cmon VARDY Leicester have been sh*te the last few weeks so it's difficult to see them snapping out of that. Hopefully they can return the favour to us and stick it to Spurs again. First though we have to win tomorrow, which I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't.
May 5, 20188 yr To me the biggest disappointment was not the Watford or the Bournemouth debacles, but rather the loss at Old Trafford where we had a 1-0 lead and somehow managed to lose that game when we were dominating them for most of the match.
May 5, 20188 yr Watford, Bournemouth, Burnley, Crystal Palace... take your pick, they were all sh*t. But Spurs at home was where it finally slipped away, thats the one to look at.

May 5, 20188 yr I dont see us winning at Newcastle away though, we always seem to slip up there and Benitez would love to stop us getting top 4.
May 5, 20188 yr Spurs dropping points at home, us winning at Newcastle, Liverpool somehow messing up against a Brighton team already on the beach etc. All important points but this whole house of cards is built on the base we manage to beat Liverpool at home. Now how is our record against the league's best teams? City 2 losses. United 1 win and 1 loss. Arsenal 2 draws Spurs 1 win and 1 loss Liverpool 1 draw and? Not great reading and I fear we hope for too much, more than this team is capable of, when we pin our hopes on winning tomorrow. This thread will either be on fire or dead in about 18 hours or so :)
May 6, 20188 yr I have the feeling Conte will play for a 1:0, won't be much finger nails left at the end of the game for those who will be watching.

May 6, 20188 yr Well... 3 points gained on Liverpool and Tottenham! Huge weekend for us. At least we still have a chance, fingers crossed one of them will drop points and we get the 4th spot! Chelsea really need to play at their best in last two games to get the 4th spot. Chelsea 0 - 1 Huddersfield

May 6, 20188 yr Author It’s a shame Spurs x 2 games and Liverpool’s games are both at home against relatively easy opposition. You would expect them to win both. Weve left it too late - unless they really cock it up.

We get what we deserved - dropping vital points at home to mediocre and bottom feeder teams have come back to bite us...we were never going to retain the title but a top 4 finish should have been a breeze
May 6, 20188 yr Author Especially as at one point, we were pushing United for 2nd. January and Conte throwing his toys out the pram killed us.
