Love the optimism, however this team needs more than an improvement at its final ball. You raise a good point though, I've thought this for a long time but my god we are one of the worst 'top' sides when it comes to our play in the final third that I've ever seen, it drives me crazy. Constantly, time after time we make the wrong decision when we get anywhere near the opposition's box. Think we need a manager with an attacking philosophy, or just better players. Either way, massive summer transfer window approaching that we really can't afford to f**k up.
April 1, 20188 yr I don't see what sacking Conte is going to do, I'm sick of this merry-go-round with the players and managers. Don't get me wrong I'm well aware of Conte's comments but it goes deeper than this, Conte clearly isn't happy for whatever reason. Is it signings? We've had 200 million to spend, was he unhappy with who we got and not the amount we spent? Or is he purely selfish and he's blaming all of his shortcomings on the board to save his CV. I really don't know I couldn't tell you, all I see is a recurring pattern at this club when it comes to players and managers and I'm pretty sure I don't have to explain it. Even if it meant giving Conte another season to break this cylce I would 100% welcome it.
April 1, 20188 yr But to be honest if you had a boss who was always belittling you and your colleagues you wouldn'tgive 100% for himSaid this a few times this season and this is the reason he can't continue because the players will not respond to him after hearing that all season

But I'm 100% sure we beat them if we meet in the Fa Cup Final. But we have one of the best attacking players in the world in Hazard, a 70 million pound striker, Fabregas and Pedro whose qualities are obvious, Willian who would definitely fit into most top sides on current form. We have players who are constantly being rumoured with other top sides and we spent millions on, I just can't see them being this below par in other teams who would play to their strengths by having an attacking style.
April 2, 20188 yr I don't know why recently, but after a pretty good season, we flop the very next. The writing was on the wall for this loss. You could tell it was coming to an end.
April 2, 20188 yr Vertonghen should have had a red. He should have had a red in the game at Wembley last August. And like half his team mates he could have had a red in this fixture two seasons ago. Tottenham seem to get quite lucky with refs when they play us. Anyone might think there's a pattern here. Not that I'm pissed off or anything.
April 2, 20188 yr Too much mediocrity and not enough guile and pace in that team yesterday. Alonso, Moses and Fabregas are decent enough squad players but are no where near good enough to be in the starting line up of the Premier League champions. Conte got a tune out of them last season but, to retain the title, you must improve and progress with a better quality type of player. Now, when these three play, especially against a talented Spurs team, our attacking play is compromised. Willian was quiet because he spent more time defending than supporting Morata, mainly due to Fabregas's snail like movement around the pitch. Alonso has a diamond of a left foot but doesn't have the pace to get up and down the pitch and Moses works hard but is so obvious in anything he does. Emerson, Drinkwater and Zappacosta were the obvious alternatives for these three but Conte doesn't seem to trust them enough. A damning indictment on the transfer policy of the club this season.
April 2, 20188 yr Familiar performance, we seemed to be good for about 40 minutes, but never able to put the opposition away. The mistake in the back was only 1 kick away, they offered nothing in the first half and we managed to let them get back into the team, after that we knew we were in trouble. I can't remember the last time we scored a second half goal, as game went on and pressing dropped off and they found more gaps, only a matter of time before they got us. However that second goal was shocking, couldn't believe we'd be done by long through ball like that, that's childish defending again. I probably can't be too hard on Conte, the decision to play Cesc was always get us into trouble at some stage in the game, maybe Conte didn't have much options, but seriously, everyone could see that coming. The issue I have with 343 or 352 is we are always short in the midfield, once the opposition ran past our midfield, we'd be in trouble regardless how many Central defenders we have. I honestly believe it's time to go back to the 4 men defence, and give the midfield an extra body to win the ball and cover the backline. Hazard didn't show up, Courtois didn't even make the team, he's terribly unreliable in terms of attendance, never played a full 38 games season for us and probably never will. Our transfer has been underwhelming to say the least, but that's not an excuse for being where we are right now, the change has to come, may as well by now with practically nothing to play for.
April 2, 20188 yr Plenty of blame to go around after that. From Moses not showing any semblance of game management skills on halftime to not just put the ball up field to Caballero's misjudgement to Christensens woes and finally to Antonio's worst match in charge. We were passive after half time and their go ahead goal was coming. We then didn't respond at all either on the field or in the dugout. Awful day. Even in the dark days of two years ago we still showed spirit and we still beat Spurs. Antonio won't survive that and it wouldn't surprise me if he is sacked this week. In my mind a number of players should follow him out as should Marina. We've recruited poorly from a technical perspective and we've also done no due diligence as to the character of our signings. Plenty of snowflakes who have melted when it mattered. Sadly we will now not be eating at the top table when it comes to making up for those mistakes. But let's no catastrophise too much. We have a great base to build on for the next manager. What we need to do is sort out what style we want to play as a club and let that run as a golden thread through all levels. We can then hire the right manager and buy the players who will suit that style and bring through our golden youngsters as needed. Oh and hopefully win an FA Cup to salvage something from this cluster.
April 2, 20188 yr Only upside was the commentator reminding everyone that Spuds have only won 2 trophies (league cups) in the last 27 years
April 2, 20188 yr As I said before the match, we need a massive clear out in the Summer. Conte isn't interested and really doesn't care, so he needs to go. We need to replace him with a very good attack minded manager who can also set us up at the back. Many players need to leave in the Summer like Courtois, Cahill, Moses, Bakayoko, Barklay, Fabregas(too old), Morata, Giroud, Luiz. WE need a top goalkeeper, a top central defender, Christiensen isn't a top defender and makes far too many mistakes. Two midfielders of high quality, two strikers that are top quality. Whether we get them is debatable. With the new stadium we are going to hit lean times and Roman has let this club go to ruin by taking his eye off the ball. We could end up like Arsenal after they built the Emirates. Times don't look good and I can't see Roman and the board sorting out this clusterf*ck. These are dark days at Stamford Bridge. Only a miracle can save us. Edited April 2, 20188 yr by TheBluesBrother
April 2, 20188 yr Christensen has been found out a little at this level. Ideally we could have eased him into the team rather than shove him straight in. Unfortunately Moses has not moved on from his great season he had. Clear out requirred obviously. Now we have to worry about keeping certain players due to us not been involved in the Champions League. May take us a few years to get back to winning/competing for titles. Few ballsy decisions need to be made. No point hanging onto folk that don't want to be here also.
April 2, 20188 yr Sciatica still bad and we lost,oh well i will get over it.No calling for the managers head or blaming players from me,just continued support and excepting that it might just be the fa cup this season.....UP THE CHELS !
April 2, 20188 yr Well no defeat is a good defeat especially against a London rival and most of all against Spurs and that that little ***** Dele Alli . Any way CL has past us by for yet another year as our cycle of failure continues when winning a trophy in the previous season. The Board and Manager never seem to understand that to retain a title you need to improve your first team and your overall squad because everyone else around you will be doing so.(perhaps this one did but no one was listening)..but that is all water under the 'bridge' so to speak. But let's take our rose coloured glasses off a minute and have a look at this team. On paper with the players we have a top 4 should be a relatively easy task, but far too often this season players have gone missing not only in important games but in games where 3 points should have been achievable against mid to lower ranked teams especially at home. I think most members on here and CFC fans in general think losing Hazard and Tibo would be bad; I'm the opposite, I think both players have been inconsistent in the last couple of years and have not stepped up when they needed to do so. God bless Eden, but he only plays when he wants to; for the rest of the time he is a bit player who shows the odd flashes of brilliance; he has never been consistent and never been a player that could consistently grab a game by the throat when its needed. Personally, I'd take the money and run. The same with Tibo; when you think about it most of the top 6 teams goalkeepers have little to do in a game because their defences are pretty solid, but when it matters they need to pull of one or two real saves per game and Tibo of late has not been able to do it. Given his family situation I would rather see him leave, as I am wondering whether or not its affecting him. There are many others in the first team where it is time to say goodbye and thank you. Moses - for a winger he is not capable of crossing a ball and has too many brain farts defensively, as the old adage goes, 'you can't make chicken soup out of chicken sh*t'; how he retains his place is anyone's guess. Cesc - Thanks for the memories, but unless we are playing the Chelsea pensioners its time to move on. Drinkwater will never be a first team player here, as hard as he tries Leicester was about his level. Baka is all over the place, but at this level he is just lost, however that being said and given his age he might be worth keeping if someone can work with him and get his confidence back. Pedro - pulls out a blinder now and then, a decent sub, but not a first teamer. Alonso is great going forward but can't defend worth sh*t...a bench warmer at best, time to give someone else a go in his spot. Morata needs to grow some balls, the boy has talent that's for sure, but it's time to stop falling over like a snowflake - this was his first season, lets hope he's learned something at least. Whether Giroud is happy on the bench who knows, but perhaps this was only a stop gap in his career to leave Arsenal . As for Barklay we haven't seen much of him to really make an informed opinion, but he is young enough and its up to him to show whether or not he is good enough to wear this blue rather that of Everton. Players to keep, Azpi, Christensen, Rudiger, Kante, Willian.....as for the new talent such as Emerson and even Zappacosta, whether they are bit players or bench warmers will be up to them or the new manager because this one has gone for sure. Hopefully the young talent we have will get a chance next season, but if the Board appoint a world class manager with expectations of winning the league then they have no chance and we'll be farming another 100 players out on loan. Oh well onward and upward, lets hope we can at least put up a fight in the FA Cup against Southampton.

April 2, 20188 yr systems or players , we all moan about playing the false nine , but i am sure neither Kane or Lorente started for spurs yesterday so were they playing a false nine ? i think i goes to show that its the aptitude and mentality of the players and not the system played. at the moment all the spurs players are pulling in the same direction where as ours have been affected by the negative fibes coming from the top down.
April 2, 20188 yr I've never been a religious person but after yesterday's sh*t show I may convert to Buddhism to learn how to find inner peace in times of despair. Dele Ali the prick, hope to never see his ugly mug ever again.
April 2, 20188 yr Had forgotten what a dirty little player Alli is. Loads of little niggles and flicks at players off the ball. Also forgot that great Spuds song: ”Harry Kane, he’s one of our own, used to support Arsenal, but we’ll pretend he’s one of our own”
April 2, 20188 yr How do we lose to a team that spent 10% we have on transfers and has 50% of our wage bill. Roman will probably go on a spending spree again with a new manager, one good season and then sack him and start again. We are a COMPLETE JOKE as a club. If Spurs keep Pochitino they will dominate London for years.
