Maurizio Sarri Officially Appointed

Featured Replies

I looked up Jorginho's stats on whoscored.com, and true to Nouman's analysis, he *only* played 57 passes this game. He averages around 90+ passes in PL games.

Encouraging to see that Sarri can make adjustments.

Although I do wish these tactical adjustments could've come a few games earlier.

I don't think he sees it as we needed tactical adjustments then.

1st game against Spurs 17-6 in shots, 7-2 in corners, 58-42 possession.

Game against Arsenal 13-13 shots, 6-5 corners, 64-36 possession.

We obviously are getting to the attacking third often, those two games 30 shots and 13 corners combined for ZERO goals. We finish, we win, we get more clinical we win.  We played two good teams that are primarily counter teams... if you don't score when you've got the opportunity things break down.

This past game against the Spurs looked to me to be a 4-1 type of game.  Still not clinical enough in the finishing.

Think a lot of pundits and fans right now can't see the forest through the trees, nitpicking all of our little problems when we have one that has been so glaring: that is simply being more deliberate and clinical in the box.

Spot on. We are absolutely moving in the right direction. Flick the right switch and we'll genuinely be dominating teams.

Gullit on the BBC
Talks about Sarri going public on team motivation - pro's and cons.
More concerning is Higuaín, says he relies on crosses and Hazard and Willian don't cross they cut inside.

Hazard and Pedro absolutely do. But they're not cross merchants. Solution: Bench Willian.

CHO and Emmerson could be the answers..............

Plus endless amounts of money for the players he wanted. And he came and was an instant disappointment in the Premiership, with a flop of a first season for what everyone expected.

Is he really blowing it? We are 4th, still in all competitions and, while we have had some poor performances we have also played past City and had a great game in the Cup at Wembley despite losing to an offside, non-existent penalty by that diver twat Kane. He is trying to adapt to a new league where he has been for just 4 f**king months, and he may need a season or two like those media (and some Chelsea fans in here) darlings Klopp and Guardiola.

What changes is he not making to call him rigid? FFS he is playing Hazard as a false 9 because we have no recognised centre forward, which is a change he was praised for when we played City. He is trying to get us a centre forward because he knows what is missing. Do you think he plays Luiz because of his defensive abilities? He is adapting to the fact that many times we need long-range passes to get over packed defensive lines, and the only other player with that quality is David Luiz. What other changes do you want him to make? Ok, he could play more of CHO, but everyone wants him to play instead of William.

Rigid in two areas ... choosing personal and also when we chasing a game .. moving to a different system or approach.. why we ended the arsenal game with 2DMs when we had attacking options on the bench is inexplicably ...

first game 100th game,  game management is very imp for a coach.. pardon me for not yet being fully convinced with sarri... Klop and pep had a CV.. that sarri doesn’t so he will need to earn our(my) trust... else it’s ok to question some of his moves....

Paredes has joined PSG, looks unlikely that Chelsea will be signing a replacement for Fabregas now.

Sarri experimented with Ampadu and Kovacic in the regista role against Sheffield Wednesday and I think we can expect to be seeing Kovacic dropping back there if Jorginho doesn't play.

I think the midfield is looking a bit unbalanced at the moment and it's something I think Sarri will be looking to address in the summer.

Could mean more minutes/chances for RLC and Barkley between now and the end of the season.

I think Sarri is a bit too stubborn with selection. He should be stubborn with the style of football and philosophy but not with personnel. Kovacic could do well deputising Jorginho, maybe Barkley too.

Commenting on Wearyourblue's good post we are on the right track with some growing pain and personnel questions. If only this club would have some patience. Sarri's system is good and he is a good trainer. We should stick to the idea and work on it. It is all about the small details and things coming natural.

Barkley would be awful in the regista, he's often indecisive on the ball.

But between Ampadu, Kante, Kovacic Sarri's got options.

Sarri needs to adapt too to the expectations at Chelsea. It's one thing to want a ready made Jorginho replacement just sitting in reserve but there's plenty of talent already at the club, even if it means adjusting our playing style slightly in the games when Jorginho isn't available.

We've already wrote off Drinkwater, a £35m signing because Sarri has outright said he can't play in any of the positions in his 3 man midfield. To go out and spend a further £35m just because Sarri wants to rigidly stick to a particular game plan isn't sensible.

I think we'll be fine with the options we've got and if anything it might help develop the players who will deputise for Jorginho.

That should be arrivederci.

He is clearly out of his depth.

his tactics dont work or he is unable to coach them into his players.. he keeps on playing a highline with a narrow CB pairing and a painfully slow DM.. at the same time with not enough pressure on the opposition... time after timewe concede in this fashion.. simple ball down the side.. pull Rudi or Luiz out of position.. overload the other half and bang..

attacking to many defensive players on the pitch .. 1/3 of an attacking line which never contibutes... team selection defies logic.. honestly how did we end up with Sarri..

How can players even get motivated under this system?  No players can flourish as they're not given a chance to.

Pass pass pass around organised defences who'll quite happily wait for your inevitable mistake and counter. Half the teams in the league play counter attacking football, this system plays to their strengths and make the worst defences look like world beaters.  Occasionally you see a ball delivered to no one inside the box out of sheer frustration or cluelessness about what to do next.

Say we get a new star player, he's amazing, he's motivated... What's he going to do under this system? If he's any threat he'll have 3 defenders stuck on him the whole time. Heck The defenders could probably have a few games of cards whilst they wait for the ball to come in, if it ever comes at all.

Whatever he is trying to do is not working and if he can't see that or is unable/unwilling to change it, then he is not the right man to take us forward.

Our form since November has been pants and the performances not much better.

The system is so rigid, the team selections inflexible. The approach play is so predictable and the substitutions so uninspired.

I’m trying to get on board with what Sarri is meant to be doing and for someone who was skeptical of his appointment that initial unbeaten run looked to have me eating me words.

Now the skepticism has crept back in and I’m struggling to understand what it is he’s trying to do.

Despite tonight our season is going well.

Worrying how easily we got destroyed by Bournemouth though. When a team have pace like that we’re in serious trouble, hopefully Sarri will have learnt a lesson from tonight.

Sacking Sarri is the last thing we need to do. That will just be a kneejerk decision that will do more harm than good and continue the firing and hiring cycle. While Sarri has his flaws, I feel this performance falls more on the players than the manager. It's as if they didn't care about the match.
