January 24, 20197 yr Stumbled across this Petit slamming Arsenal over squad strengthening and letting Ramsey go yet also commentating on Chelsea saying the players are bored with the style of football they are playing. https://www.msn.com/en-gb/sport/football/late-90s-arsenal-and-manchester-united-sides-would-destroy-modern-versions-says-emmanuel-petit-as-he-blasts-mesut-ozil-as-a-wasted-talent-and-chelseas-players-as-bored/ar-BBSGCCv?ocid=spartanntp
January 24, 20197 yr Apologies for all the pessimism on here...Sarri proved me wrong. Fantastic response from the team today, especially in the first half. Hazard back on the left and he needs to stay there for the rest of the season. Sheff Wed, Bournemouth and Huddersfield up next. Let's keep this momentum going, build up a head of steam before City on the 10th. CHO to start next game please. UTC!!

January 24, 20197 yr 9.5 out of 10 for Sarri tonight. I'm docking him half a point for not bringing on CHO :-)
January 24, 20197 yr I can't say I understand this entirely, but anyway. I am sure it's more than lack of height, otherwise bit harsh for Alonso to hear lol
January 25, 20197 yr Shows what can happen when you take some under perfoming players out of the team. Emerson played well, IMO he brings width, pace and the team looks more natural with him at LB. I thought Barkley was good and people are a bit harsh on him and he brings more to the team than Kovacic. Giroud wasn't great but it allows Hazard back to his best. The chances we created was a forwards dream. You can see why CHO wants to leave though, Pedro was poor and Willian was awful when he came on. He should have started.
January 25, 20197 yr Underperforming players shouldn't really be such a big problem. Take them out. In this case Alonso got picked although he clearly was a weak link. Other players will notice that. They will also feel bad for Emerson. Sarri says he is short and I can understand it but when you are tall and passed with ease almost every time it is even worse. Sarri needs to wake up and stop being such a manager. What I mean by that is he makes some weird selections because he doesn't want to make the selection every fan would make. I'm the manager, I make the choice.

I get that but many times when we have sacked a manager his follow up act does exactly like we have thought pretty much collectively here. I bet Zola has said to him to play Emerson, play Haz on the wing and so on.

I don't think Pedro was that bad, but willian was dreadful and there was no right for him to come on ahead of CHO. Willian needs to sit out a few games.
January 25, 20197 yr It’s all gone quiet on here. Oh I forgot, the moaning squad don’t do praise. Thought we/ he did all right last night?

I bet Zola has said to him to play Emerson, play Haz on the wing and so on. That's actually not true. Many on here have been complaining since Mourinho's second stint, through Conte and now Sarri's first 6 months... The next one will come and some will keep complaining that their favourite players are not played by the coach. If the coach was to hear what we fans suggest, we would not be in a final again (having outplayed Spuds in both legs) and would not be fighting for top 4.
January 25, 20197 yr The team looked a lot better last night, more direct, more purposeful in possession. We didn't dominate possession like we often do, had a more modest 54% but we still racked up 21 shots on goal. We were quicker to get the ball forward and looked the better for it. Having a traditional centre forward made such a huge difference. Giroud didn't necessarily do anything on the ball but his movement and presence was pulling Spurs defenders around and it was creating space for Hazard in particular who looked a lot happier in his preferred role out on the left. It's going to be interest what sort of teams he picks after last night, Sarri made a lot of changes that quite a few fans have been crying out for and they worked. Will the likes of Alonso and Willian be drafted straight back into the team despite their replacements out performing them last night or will Sarri shift towards a slightly altered approach?

I'd be interested to see what our possession was in the first half when we were dominating. That was one of the best halves I've seen us play for a long time.

January 25, 20197 yr Bless some of our luvverly fans though. Can't be content (or even, dare I say it, happy) with beating the Spuds, but they have to whinge on about it "was only Spurs C team" or "Spurs reserves". As far as I know it was 3 out of their first team missing, and all the rest were regular starters. Hardly having to draft in 12 year-olds and pensioners, was it? Just a quick google and it looks like the entire starting eleven apart from Llorente are full internationals as are all of their substitutes used.
January 25, 20197 yr We setup exactly how we always have only difference I saw was the players actually carried out Sarri instructions, high press every single time Tottenham tried playing out aggressive in all area's what Sarri has been asking for

What I was suggesting is everyone (else) sees a player or two not performing or system not working and still the manager insists on going to his eventual grave with his stubbornes. Alonso is a great example of it. CHO is looking to be the next one and so on. There have been many cases where the eventual interim coach have changed what everyone else saw and it instantly works. I recommend the manager never to listen to fans or pundits but maybe his number two or number 3 once and a while.
January 25, 20197 yr Good explanation of the tactics used by the gaffers in the 2nd leg of the EFL Cup tie

In his analysis says we played a 4-4-2 on defense with pedro dropping into mid, but then says we kept pedro high and wide for the counterattack to expose backs. Pedro always tracks back a ton, and plays with great energy.
