Newcastle V Chelsea (PL) Sun 26th Aug 16:00 UK

Featured Replies

Newcastle weren’t even interested in trying to play football today. Nine of the ten outfield players were behind the ball and they just punted the ball clear to Rondon in a desperate hope he might be able to bring it down.

They were kicking lumps out of Hazard from the kick off and in the second half started commit cynical fouls whenever we started to find space.

f**k Rafa and f**k the barcodes, they deserved nothing from that game.

Nah dude. Entire team doesn't know how to get through the back 8 of newcastle but Morata is not good and everyone else is.

Ps. Hazard looked a bit slower than usual right?

We'll have to agree to disagree, it wasn't a stellar performance from him but he put in a shift, and Giroud had the same trouble for 20 of his 30.

And maybe Hazard's knock in the first half stuck with him? There wasn't a lot of space to sprint, and Yedlin's pretty rapid himself.

Hey ho anyway, its a win, cheers to 3 more points!

Mark Clattenburg said on NBC Sports studio post game show that elbow to Giroud was a definite foul and that the assistant ref on the side hesitated with his flag as if expecting the refs whistle or due to his own indecision. But he felt it was certainly a foul. He added the pen on Alonso was 50/50 but fully understood why the ref called it and he could support the call. He felt it was the scissor action by the defender on Alonso's legs after the defender briefly touched the ball, plus the defender did not move the ball away from Alonso's feet before bringing him down.

I thought penalty was correct call and the no call on Giroud's chin was incorrect call.

81% possession! 913 passes to 200! 15 shots to 6! 2 goals to 1!

We deserved the win.

Anytime you play a team that parks 111 guys in the penalty area from the opening kickoff, and you win, its a good day. We have lost so many of these type games in years past. Winning at Newcastle is always a superb result regardless how frustrating the game can become. This was a very nice win today.

Enjoy the day mates!!

Come on you Chelsea!!

Luiz is a liability and I've said it many times before. He was ball watching for their goal. Rudiger needs someone more solid next to him. That was a penalty all day long. Yedelin got a touch on the ball but denied Alonso a scoring chance by bringing him down. Hazard with a fantastic penalty. We hit the bar with the Rudiger shot. Yedelin  cynically elbowed Giroud  in the face and it should have been our freekick. Instead the ref allowed the goal. LOL. Terrible officials today, and there were so many mistakes by them. Alonso popped up to score at the end but it will be given as a Yedelin own goal. Benitez gained nothing from those tactics and I'm sure Newcastle fans are livid. They play Man City away next. Good luck with that one.

You got idiots like Rio saying man utd are a class above us..we will struggle to get into the top 4. Im sorry, the same UTD who are the only top 6 team who play defensive football with a manager ruining every skillful player he has ever had. They are just so biased and we dont have enough of our own pundits to even the score.

I malso made the mistake of going on AFTV after we beat them and to a man they all thought they deserved to win. Im sorry, so we were camped in their half the entire second half and they deserve to have won.

Give it a few more games and they will have to take notice of us. Btw if anyone has access to the Football Writers Podcast on Bt id reccommend watching it. Journalists who actually know what they are talking about, and they have said the reports behind the scenes of Sarris methods are revolutionary.

Of course Rafa is going to say the penalty is soft but he’s invited that level of pressure onto his team.

Leading up to the penalty Newcastle had conceded three cynical free kicks down the left that led to yellow cards. So when a defender dives in inside his own box, wrapping both legs around an attackers legs you’re just asking the red to give something.

Really surprised more wasn’t made of the foul on Giroud before the goal, thought the Newcastle players raised his elbow into his face... on another day that’s a booking, maybe even a sending off.

Find it odd that Sky were pushing the question of whether Newcastle were unlucky not to get something from the game. When you happily let your opponent have 80 plus percent of the ball and you’re the home side you’re almost always going to be on the losing end.

Need to improve our shots of target percentage but that has been a problem for a long time so sarri has got time to hopefully sort that out.

Is good to see we are already looking more comfortable in possession and retaining it.

Got to be honest that's a great three points at our notorious bogey ground. The way the team are setup to play already is incredibly positive. Let's see what Rio say's after we've played Utd.

Really really impressed already.

Could say the same of us being unlucky not to get a point at city last season.

Complete anti football that they upped by adding thuggary tactics and, in the end, they got theirs when the player who elbowed giroud and got away with it scored our winner.

Fully deserved victory, that's a penalty every day in modern football, they were sent out to boot our players from the first minute by the fat Spanish c**t, ref was shockingly bad, how did they all miss that f**king elbow? Newcastles tactic of having a flat back everyone made it difficult but it's great that Sarri was positive in his changes to go for the win. 3 from 3 and getting better each game, great to see.

Thank you Thank you Thank you!

I'm not sure how or why so many people think otherwise on here.

We were far too negative in our games against City last season and didn’t show anywhere near enough ambition to get forward, especially in our home game.

We lost those games, which supports my point that when you play that defensively you’re generally going to end up on the losing team.

I agree with you. They did not deserve a point today and neither did we against city last season. Just saying if you believe they did today then that is like believing we did against city.

We dominated the ball without being really dangerous enough. We did though get our just desserts with the win as we were the only team wanting to play today. Not sure how many passes we ended up with but it must be approaching the 1000 mark. A good 3pts, Rudiger MoM for me.

I'm agreeing with you :) Morata did as well as everyone else today.

Rudiger hit the bar.

Hazard despite being off the boil was a pain their arse.

Luiz had one bit of defending to do, but fell asleep when it came round.

Kepa as above.

The midfield won possession back quickly, not much more they could do.

Pedro was AWOL.

Morata was AWOL, and at times he joined the Newcastle defence, so yeah he was probably the worst of a bunch.

Like every forward in the world.

You talk some absolute bollocks on here.

This game was an absolute anomaly, when do teams have 18% possession exactly? Newcastle had 10 men defending at all times. I can only recall one chance when Morata cocked it up, that's bad enough but there are plenty of other culprits to go after today, Hazard for me was at his worst actually.

And yet still he did 5000% more than Alvaro, i know i'm going on a bit, but i can't help it when people just blindly defend him for doing f**k all, it's not a place to hide up front, you have to rely on yourself sometimes to create and reward yourself with a goal. He had one chance that he couldnt even get under control, but thats all Costa would of needed love him or hate him.

did you actually watch the match? Hazard got stood on. I am sure he suffered a knock on that play. the punk ass ref allowed the barcodes to play a hockey match & they almost came away w/ a point. That was a blatant elbow thrown by Yedlin into Giroud's grill. The match was the typical saying that if you are not cheating you're not trying & you only cheating if you get caught. In the end, I think Alonso should have been given a goal. If Yedlin doesn't put his boot on the ball, either the ball goes into the back of the net or Barkley has a simple tap-in. Yedlin took the best approach in a bad situation. Sucks for him, but fuck fsw for his negative tactics. Even his own captain wasn't down w/ his plans.
