Chelsea v Man City (PL) Sat 8th Dec 17:30 UK

Maybe this is Sarri’s “plan b” that everyone’s been screaming for for weeks?

Would have relieved to go in nil-nil at half time so it’s great to be ahead. Man City will be scratching their heads. It’s happened to us a few times this season so it’s nice to be at the other end for a change.

We were completely dominated, but we lead........oh well, f**k it, if we can get a win, I'll take it.

Sadly yes but if we somehow win it could galvanize us and step up. A good catalyst IF we win. Problem is this city can easily score if we are not careful.

before the goal, everyone was OBVIOUSLY afraid of the ball. nobody wanted to hold up the ball even for just 2 seconds, yet nobody wanted to be passed the ball to. either we gave them too much respect or something is wrong with out confidence. the goal evidently lifted everyone's confidence although just for 2 minutes, we could see we were able to (finally) string some meaningful passes to get out of city's press. i pray that it can last beyond the half time

Can we hold on? Doubtful, but stranger things have happened.

I wish Alonso would stop giving the ball away though, i lost count at about 7 times.

This could go either one of two ways, get more of the ball, press hard and look for a second goal, or sit back in our shell, defend and likely concede.

I gather this will be an unpopular opinion, but I'm not displeased with the performance so far.

I think we've actually done remarkably well so far at containing City - we've mostly managed to push them into wide areas and having to attack the box from less threatening positions. That we reduced them to a single shot on target (and that came from Jorginho stupidly losing the ball on the halfway line with only the back four behind him) is testament to that.

We've been largely hopeless going forward - yes we lost the ball a lot but you have to expect that against a side as gifted off the ball as Man City - but when we finally launched a ball over the top (inevitably it was Luiz) for one of the front three to run onto we scored. One shot on target, one goal - how's that for efficiency?

That said, I have no idea what our gameplan would have been had Man City scored first...

i know which option my money would be on :face_palm:

Kante has been trying very hard every game to adapt to his new role, this goal is his reward that the majority of the fans don't deserve!

We can give a huge boost to the team if Jorginho could do what Fernandinho is doing for City. Winning the ball and continuing the possession forward. His aggression and defensive ability help a lot to City. We have to look at how to avoid meeting him and run for a counter attack.

We've been pretty difficult to break down, but have been lucky not to concede when the midfield have been caught in the possession.

So tired of City's forwards getting a free pass to foul when pressing without cards. No punishment, and always their advantage - either we lose momentum with a free kick or they win the ball.

Kante's goal was well taken, Pedro and Luiz excellent in the build up. Kovacic has been good too. Kante and Jorginho need to stop rushing/panicking on the ball.

Hope we can see this out, we're set up well to be a threat on the break, and they'll have to commit to score. Hopefully see Emerson at some point too, before one of Alonso's mistakes costs us.

We'll this should be an interesting 2nd half.....if we were under pressure in the first half, God knows what the next 45 will be.  City players clearly believe in each other and as a complete unit.  They have 4 players pressuring Kepa at all times and any outlet player is surrounded regardless of how high their defensive line is, whereas we are standing 5-10 yards off their players not trusting those behind.

Ahem what? We are talking about midfield responsibilities.

Who gives a f**k. We’re winning, you should be celebrating instead of bleating about midfield responsibilities.

Our players' problem is as soon as City players press them, there's a few players who are forcing the pass to quickly and that leads to trouble. We don't want to give City possession so easily as they are great at keeping it.

Luiz, Pedro and Hazard's football was the reason we got that goal. Luiz with the 10 out of 10 pass, Pedro with his touch inside and pass out to Willian and then Hazard's cut back was perfect.

That's cause we don't have a striker that can hold the ball up, last one was Costa and nobody could press us like this.

Kante main reason regardless of others, he did it so give him the credit he deserves specially since everyone is sh*tting on his game every day of the week, including myself that is. He has been working very hard every game to adapt and if only last game someone could finish like he did today we would have won Wolves.

Give me another 45 minutes with the same outcome and I promise you we will celebrate together.
