December 26, 20214 yr We stuck him upfront last three games with big defenders around him and wonder why he wasent scoring. I dont think there was a single member of our starting lineup that has the ability to play as a lone forward, so we need to factor that when rubbishing players unfairly. Put him on the wings with someone in the middle and he will produce, a la both semi finals againt real madrid last year. Edited December 26, 20214 yr by Oli
December 27, 20214 yr The kid is 5'8 160 pounds soak n wet! Of course he will get abused up top. He best spot is on the left where he can cause teams problems an get balls into the box for the striker. I think he did have to move allot more up top, if anything it helped with his fitness.
December 27, 20214 yr My opinion is that, right now, he shouldn't be anywhere near the starting 11. To be fair to him, he's been injured for so long and that has probably affected him. But he's arguably looking rusty and out of form, even when he's playing on the wing (Watford away for example). I'm afraid there isn't much more he could offer us. Which is a shame because he's still only 23. Maybe a loan move would be benefical but I don't think that is feasible at the moment...
December 27, 20214 yr I'm not sure he is suited to possession based football more an attacker on the counter. Though I think he would do better elsewhere he still has a role to play until we get more players. It only seems a match ago that his run across the penalty box wins us an important penalty.

Problem is, with minimul exceptions he's been rubbish even in his 'natural' position for over a year.
December 29, 20214 yr I don’t think now really is the time to have a pop at Pulisic, he’s playing as a wing back ffs. That’s like Man Utd playing Sancho at wing back.

December 29, 20214 yr He needs a free attacking role like Hazard, his best football came when he dribbled when he wanted and made runs where he wanted. We don't have the system to accomodate him, either he fits in or has to go
December 29, 20214 yr Boys bang average, he's a stand out in his national team and gets the headlines but since he's been here it's hardly been anything special. Injuries and countless disappointing performances. Sell him while his stock is still decent because he will never be anything other than squad filler.

False 9 and wing back, two positions he can't play. The only position he is good at is left wing, and he has barely played there all season. I'm not going to defend his performances if he plays poor as a winger, but I am also not going to be too critical of him when he is forced to play in a position he can't play in. With Pulisic, it's left wing or nothing. Play him anywhere else and it hurts him and us.
December 29, 20214 yr With all the talk about how he's simply not a RWB, he almost won us a penalty... Almost.

He's not a wingback and he's not a false 9 but... He's contributing next to nothing regardless. Doesn't beat his man, poor choices when he is getting on the ball. Goes down clutching something almost everytime he goes in for or gets tackled. He's rapidly dropping down the pecking order and if not for his commercial value I think the club would be looking to cash in pretty soon.
December 29, 20214 yr Like I have said , if you don’t need him at his position…sell him. There has bound to be a team that needs a left foward that will take him and get him off the payroll and infuse the club with cash to buy some more players that can’t score goals. Maybe Man City can give Chelsea some lessons on how to score goals?

December 29, 20214 yr It is going to be a miracle if he somehow starts agains Liverpool. Which I can't exclude at this point...

December 30, 20214 yr Let's not act like Norwich fans do with Gilmour shall we? CP has been very bad as a 9, he was good at wingback at Villa and he did OK today, made a few runs, one lovely ball to CHO that he wasted inside the box, and had a stonewall penalty turned down. We had a lot of problems today, CP was not near the top imo.
December 30, 20214 yr Play him Lw/Rw or one of the inside fwd roles and watch him flourish. He's not a wingback but I don't mind playing him there if it means we're playing a more attacking line up in the system. Say what you want about him at wb but he offers more offensively than some others there. James will always be first choice rwb, anyone else is a downgrade but I'd take Pulisic there over the alternatives. With players like CHO amd Pulisic even if they're played out of their positions in wb at least we know we have an extra attacker in the 11 something I think is greatly needed. It's hard enough creating chances when you play 5 defenders and 2 holding midfielders even if the wingbacks get forward. Chillwell and James are elite players when on form but without them what else can we do right now. Lets just be thankful he's avoided injuries for a while and hope he can go big for us in the new year and second half of the season. Brownie points Pulisic has in the bag: Turned up in the project restart and was a huge factor in us qualifying for the ucl season 20/21. You have to be in it to win it ofc 😉. Scored and assisted a goal across the semi final legs vs Real Madrid. He even scored in the Fa Cup final for us under Frank before he got injured. He actually shows defensive work rate for us at the back, getting back or putting slide tackles in. At 23 I still don't see a reason not to remain patient with him of all the players we currently have, his ceiling is arguably the highest alongside Mount, James and Havertz. All good players but Pulisic's form at the tail end of 19/20 was staggering I'm yet to see any of our other current players hit that kind of form yet.

December 30, 20214 yr Not here to defend Pulisic, but as much as you might dislike him you still have to admit he put in a good shift today and worked very hard for the team. Agreed that once the full squad is healthy, we'll see him on the bench fighting for a spot as an attacking wide forward.

I am extremely confused by this every time I hear/see it. Please help us understand his commercial value to Chelsea, with real data. It's not like they're selling 1,000 Pulisic Chelsea jersey in the USA every day. Heck, I don't think they even sell that much in a freakin' year. He's a wide forward, CFC bought him as a wide forward/winger, not a CF or WB. He's played those positions out of necessity. Judge him as a forward, if he stink as a wide forward/winger so be it. He seems to flourished under Lampard's sytem, but TT's system might not be the best fit for him.
