How long will his restart form save him from critisism? Another Alex Iwobi tribute act today.

Shouldn't even be a debate between him and Callum right now.

Got a chance in his best position people have been crying out for and he was dreadful. In fairness he wasn’t the only one tonight but he lost the ball too easily and give away some really silly frees in bad positions.

I think he needs to start showing something or he’s away in Jan or summer if someone shows any interest.

Problem is this has been the norm for him for over a year, the sheer amount of times he runs down blind alleys is insane.

The only way he should be anywhere near this team right now is either a) an impact sub or b) trying him as a wingback in Ben's absence.

Poor tonight and has been inconsistent for too long now. I still think Chelsea would be crazy to sell him. He’s still young and I think he does have huge potential and I really don’t want to see another player go on and become a star after leaving Chelsea.

He’s not fulfilled his initial promise shown towards end of his first season under SFL, is far too injury prone which has hampered his development under Tuchel, if we’re all really honest he’s had far more opportunities than KDB or Salah ever had. Sell him if some club will match the crazy money paid for his potential which hasn’t panned out so far at Chelsea,  sure the 🇺🇸 shirt revenue ain’t that much.

While I do agree we shouldn't sell him (yet) I do wonder if the PTSD (for want of a better word) with Salah and KDB will become counter productive in the future.

Hypothetically speaking if he's still serving up this rubbish this time next year but suddenly turns it on elsewhere can we really be blamed? We'd have persisted with him for three and a half years upto that point.

I didn't watch the game but I read some complaints of Pulisic losing the ball a lot.

That is one of his weakness. With time, he probably can improve that part of his game but it won't just magically looks better

True, but he had sh*t for support. RLC and Saul in midfield were god awful, and Havertz was motionless up top. Agree that CP did not play well, but his supporting cast was pure rubbish.

Yeah that’s a fair point. I do think that he’s just been inconsistent over the last year rather than downright poor. However, if that was to continue for another 12 months then it would quite possibly be the right call to move him on.

It is what it is.  He does get hurt allot, as good attacking players get mugged.  I don't think Chelsea will ever get the best out of him just because Chelsea is such a large club with many good players.  He is very likely to come in his next match and score 3 goals and everyone will be singing his praises again.  The entire squad looked like garbage in the match, like they were all hung over.  Did someone have a party?  I can honestly say the only two consistent players on the Squad are Kante and Mendy.  The rest have great matches and disappear in others.

Great point. And that is what makes this team so frustrating. Absolutely no consistency among the attacking players. We can't get any one of our attackers to put together two straight great games. So much damn talent but I feel our best offensive threat is Reece James. How weird is that?

Reece James is an amazing footballer, not wierd at all. If not for Salah the Liverpool love in would all the about TAA.

Are you alright Tim? Have you been taking that Chelsea medication over the last few weeks?

Pulisic is the reason I came to these forums, but have to agree that he hasn't been making the best of his chances.

He has so much talents, I am sure everyone saw that. It's a matter of bringing those talents to the pitch on a consistent basis, not just 10-15 min a game or once every 5-6 games.

Hope he'll get there soon, because the clock might be running out on him at Chelsea.

I was just glad he got through another game, and no injury reported. Like any other players, he needs a few games in a row, and he will get them if he stays fit, and form should improve with the games.

Lol. It's impossible not to love Chelsea. So many talented pieces to the puzzle. Love seeing a young player like Reece James grow into what I feel might be one of the best players in the world. Love Mendy. Dude is ridiculous. And Thiago Silva - guy is never out of position. Kante - nobody better. Nobody.  And another absolute stud, and must re-sign, is Rudiger. I just wish I was sold on the offensive side of the ball had someone step up. I was as disappointed as anyone with CPs performance. Excited he was finally starting in his best spot - then he constantly loses the ball all half, and is left chasing the game. Frustrating.

No we just had a midfield we would largely see in the league cup. We have good squad depth in the sense that we can lose 1 or 2 with little difference but when it filters through to half a team it's a problem.

Between the Juve game and Watford game we went from.....

James and Chilwell in the form of their lives to Azpi and Alonso.

CHO in the form of his life to Pulisic who's done next to nothing for what is starting to feel like an eternity.

Jorginho and Kante to Saul and Ruben.

That's half our outfielders severely downgraded in one go, it was always going to start showing in the performance and it was partly why I wouldn't have been upset if the game got abandoned (as soon as I found out the guy in the crowd was stable) as I was genuinely expecting dropped points with the team we had out.

That's the frustrating thing for me and the main reason I'm being quite hard on him. When he's totally on song he passes off as Hazard level but we have been seeing far far too much of his bottom level in recent times.

For most people it's his injury's that frustrate them the most about him, for me I'd take the injuries on the chin if he offered a constant high level when fit (ala Robben).

That's the annoying part, just when he finds great form and confidence to be constantly dangerous, he gets injured. Then he can spend more than just a few games to get back on a decent level and the cycle repeats...

Ah come on @Argo I know we don't agree on CP and that is fair enough but if you are going to list players missing like that then list them all, as you missed AC replacing Silva and that is a huge downgrade in itself.

Yes Saul went off but no surprise we looked better organized once Silva came on to call the shots.

"Maybe Christian's problem is I know from Dortmund how strong he is from the bench," Tuchel said after the match. "I think he started only in the cup game and in the end that's my responsibility and my fault. It's a bit unfair because I know what an impact he can have in 20 or 30 minutes. He was a bit unlucky in the last games but there's no lack of trust or quality. He just has to be a bit patient.

Unfortunately i think Tuchel was right when he said he has known Christian since Dortmund and he feels he is better as an impact sub compared to being a starter. No Player likes that tag but Christian has to show his talents when he starts.

That's the thing, I do rate him at his best which is partly why I'm being so hard on him now.

Honestly, I think super-sub is his best role for Chelsea.

He hasn't been good enough in his starts, but I do think bringing him on consistently with enough time in the match (at around minute 60' to 65') to run at tired legs is a real weapon. His game (and goal at Leicester) is the role that I think would benefit Chelsea  the most.

Timo or CHO should start. Tell those guys they got 60 minutes to press and run them ragged, and Puli can run at them direct with his quick dribbling for the last 30'. I wouldn't want to be the full-back who has to deal with Timo and then Puli at full-speed for the entire game.

That part of the quote strikes me as TT really valuing and appreciate CP's skills and quality.

At the moment, it makes complete sense that TT sees CP as an excellent asset off the bench. UNTIL CP find his form again, able to stay healthy, and proven key contributor every week.

I don't think TT sees him as an off the bench option for long term, but for the short term, it seems that's where he's at (with occasional starts). Obviously CP, or any player, wouldn't want to just settle for being a bench option, but patience is key here for long term success.
