If a employee wants to sign a life long contract with an employer, nobody else's business to stop them. I'm glad the transfer window is over, now get back to football instead of talking about money ( and not even our money) 😄 It's not really a loophole though is it? Wonder why people keep saying that. Loopholes are usually hidden, not obvious, nor common knowledge. Might mean a legal team or financial person straddling the grey areas of a rule or legislation which has been like a door intentionally left ajar or closed but unlocked for those who know and are willing to use it, to do so without any legal ramifications. Morally wrong maybe but not illegal. What they've done is what has always been available for anyone to do and indeed done by other clubs in the past, not just to this scale because of the risk it comes with and if course in football or big money activities generally you want to balance risk and reward. Alll he's done is show his appetite for risk is high and he backs his high risk strategy to yield results. Its just that people (other big clubs - I feel more from the continent, your guess is as good as mine) are now concerned and maybe have mentioned it to uefa behind closed doors that if he's showing money not an object and going all in like this, what's to stop him from wrecking everyone else's transfer moves as generally all players will prefer a longer contract as guarantees them that long term financial security, at that time.
February 2, 20233 yr 10 year contracts - ABSURD! 200m/year (with sign-in bonuses & stuff) contract + basically ownership of the club - Just a regular contract in Paris, nothing to see here.

A loophole is what City used. Using companies owned by other members of the royal family to sponsor their team.

February 2, 20233 yr Matt Law was saying that Paul Winstanley has made a really positive impression at Cobham since he’s joined. Are we still after that Michael guy who’s ex-Liverpool?

He wanted a year break so we'll find out in the summer.
February 3, 20233 yr And so it continues…. Every manager now being asked about our spending at their press conferences today. Expect loads of “It’s none of my business but…..” This could possibly be a new level of jealousy, bitterness, hatred from the media and other clubs. Still finding it hilarious TBH, everybody else in the sport is well and truly upset by this. And like others have said there was no sympathy or even reasonable debate or understanding when Roman was accused of helping fund the war and we was sanctioned as a result. They all wanted us to go into liquidation, it didn’t happen and now the tears are flowing because we’ve got another ambitious owner. F**k em all I say. Edited February 3, 20233 yr by 2211

Wishing a football club out of existence is in my opinion one line football fans should never cross. Not only do fellow football supporters lose their club (many of whom is the sole reason they keep going, for example Claude of AFTV and Arsenal) but also people lose their jobs and livelihoods, many of whom living hand to mouth with young families. Our spending and (hopefully) subsequent success I truly believe is karma.

I remember them all kicking us when we were down. I can smell the fear coming from opposition fans and it's glorious.

I don’t remember anyone from the media or pundits saying if we went into liquidation how loads of totally innocent people would lose their jobs and livelihoods. I can remember BBC Sport and Henry Winter wading in on us before our FA Cup match at Luton though.
February 3, 20233 yr Lets be honest if Liverpool, Utd, Arsenal etc were taken over by Boehly/Clearlake and Co, they would not be saying anything. Because we've lost Roman and now have an equally generous owner, with an even larger ambition for the club, they are feeling hard done by.

Exactly Most other fan’s complaints about their owners is generally: 1 - how they either don’t dip their hands in their pockets enough 2 - they do spend money but saddle the club with debt 3 - they spend money money on players with no thought or long term plan in mind. We are doing the opposite in all 3 cases as things stand and suddenly we ruining football, over paying for average players or whatever accusations these idiots come up with. It’s the very definition is jealousy and bitterness IMO. Edited February 3, 20233 yr by 2211
February 3, 20233 yr I believe most football fans reveled in Roman being forced out, and were hopeful we would be put in to liquidation. I am still concerned our owners may not have all the ducks lined up on this and we get hit by Uefa/the FA and lose points or our place in competitions, but don't care rival fans are upset. Most of them wanted us to lose our club.

Most of them wanted us to lose our club. I think that contrary to what happened with Roman, they'll tread more carefully with Boehly and Co.. First, they are not Russian like Roman, so the football associations and UK government will not have the excuse that they are the enemy any more to treat them like sh*t. Also, Boehly is backed by a large investment fund, who would not be happy that a bunch of corrupt officers in the FA or UEFA go against their interests, so I think that they would get a legion of top lawyers and throw the book at the FA and UEFA if they were to do something like what you mention.

Appreciate what Jordan and White are doing to correct the narrative on Boehly. And as much as I think Keown is an absolute buffoon, I have some respect for someone who comes back to be slaughtered over and over.
February 3, 20233 yr Also once again they hint at the things Tuchel did behind the scenes to justifiably lose his job. I just wish we could get the inside scoop on this.

February 3, 20233 yr I think Todd has done very well, restructured the top management, brought in exciting players even the minor stadium renovations are pleasant to see. What he's getting wrong right now is in the choice of manager. I know Potter is supposed to be a long term thing but I am getting sick of the football on display
