Well they can't ignore the issue when it was  the club that brought it to their attention . The process is now following the route that the owners must have expected, that's why they witheld millions from the final bid after irregularities were found..

If we have been fined, then surely that is dealt with. If that’s the case this must be something completely different, which is a bit of a concern.

It's the same issue. It's dealt with separately by both UEFA and the PL. UEFA have fined Chelsea, now we await the PL's response.

Well well well, as I'm typing numerous media sources reporting Brighton accepted Red Vermin's bid for Caciedo right under Bully's nose. It was obvious if you wanted the player offer the asking price ironic really after they overpaid by tens of millions last season

I’ve defended the new owners repeatedly, but they have really missed the mark here. 2-3 months messing around, creeping up bids only to make a final bid that was where Bloom wanted it. The player wanted Chelsea, and it was set. Liverpool take one day and come in with a serious offer and intent. 

We’ve left massive gaps before start of season. Poch is great and had a wonderful preseason, but he does not have the midfield to work what we need at this time. They’ll be other options in time, but think this is one that got away and although never our player, feels like he will have a KDB or Salah like impact 

Liverpool have shown how a top club should deal with matters for a key target.

Our owners and directors have let Pochettino down.

Regardless of our situation I'm not sure this is great from Liverpool either. They have massive deficiencies in defense and they have just unloaded a massive amount on 1 player. Yes they needed a defensive mid but they have way overpaid.

Will see what this does for them.

If we look back it took Egbhali himself stepping in to make the Enzo deal happen after Winstanley and Stewart fumbled it.

Our owners gave them more trust here and they have messed up big time.

If our owners do intend on us being a top club they cannot accept this and either need to demote them or fire them and find a director of football who knows how to manage a top club.

I'd argue we overpaid for Enzo too though. Largely because he was already known to be a top midfielder and Benfica knew they would be able to find a buyer for him. Ultimately what I want to see from Winstanley/Stewart is finding targets before they become 100m or in a bidding war between all the big clubs. Brighton have had great success at finding talent before they are known before everybody else. Hopefully we can do that too.

Enzo is over priced, and utterly useless to us if we don't give him the right partners in midfield.

Would be as effective as Lamps would have been alongside Jokanovic and Minerio.

Agreed, Enzo still needs the right defensive foil. But there are other players out there that would work well with him and are not 100m+

If we set our stall out that, say 80mill, was our max or we walk away and stuck to that then I have no issue with it. Is that we spent months on this, panicked at the death to give what Brighton asked for all along, and it was too late. Our top people failed here.

I agree with that part. If we decided that 80m was the highest we would go, that should have been it and we move on to new targets. The failure with the last minute increase of 20m made them look stupid.

The deal is still yet to be done yet, so any judgement we pass maybe wrong in 24-48 hours.. The way I see it, either way the leadership/board will be criticised. If our evaluation is 80M, we did the right thing to stop and bid for Levia. If we bid 120M tomorrow and win, I have to say it's madness based on initial evaluation. Sometime you win, sometime others win in transfer. We beat Arsenal to get Mudryk, they could have beaten us if they decided to break the bank.

I think there would have been less criticism had we just walked away at 80m. Instead we put in a much bigger bid at the last minute and still failed. But like you say I imagine Brighton would find it hard to turn down an offer of say 120m if we called them tomorrow. Then there would be plenty who would no doubt say we overpaid. Damned if you do...

I think it's the overall model. Instead of scoping out 3-4 different targets to work on in parallel, and actually plugging the nauseating leaks of our transfer plans, any club we negotiate with is in a favourable position. Brighton knew they had us by the balls the moment Ugarte's deal publically fell through.

Jackson's transfer was a great example of what to do, in that there was relatively little media coverage until it was all but completed and Villareal had little negotiating power.

All eyes on the owners after this one, they know they've messed up big time. Their negotiators have been exposed as clowns repeatedly. Most teams and players will look at us now potentially as not a serious club. You either put your money on the table and secure your top targets or you don't. 

Say what you want about your inflation of player transfers and all that jazz, but if there is a player that will take your club to the next level you pay to sign them simple if you deem them as necessary.

Poor Poch he's had such rotten look with signings his targets, his star player injured for months. Late bid to his number 1 goalkeeper unsettling his proffered starting 11. Unwanted players still around the training ground (CHO, Ziyech and Lukaku). All the while we chased all these youngsters.

Arsenal signing Declan Rice right at the start of the window shows how you get these transfers done. City were tempted to do what Liverpool have done to us, but Arsenal made sure they had the money there to spend and had already made promises to the player it would be done. Caicedo at this point has every right to sign for Liverpool they've shown him they want him. Huge play by their owners.
