March 9, 20206 yr James is lacking game intelligence and that comes from playing lots of games and experience. He is the opposite of Lahm.
March 9, 20206 yr I must admit i do find it strange that he isn't getting games over 'Dave', maybe not every week but i think he contributes as much as Dave at this stage in their respective careers, and deserves more starts as the 'proper' right back.

Gradual changeover, a bit like what Pep did with the two Silva's. Season by season RJ's game time will increase while Cesar's will decrease.

April 28, 20206 yr I am glad. This means our lads spending less time with FIFA and more time with a real football.
May 25, 20206 yr Chelsea drop transfer interest in Achraf Hakimi after Reece James progress Correct decision, Reece is already a world class fullback as far I'm concerned. Our one youngster that is skipping the raw inconsistent stages.

He’s showing all the signs that he can get there though.

One thing for sure though is that we certainly don't need a right back, James should be our number 1.
June 22, 20206 yr When he came on he looked like he had just rolled out of bed, christ that was awful... Must have lost the ball 5 times in 5 minutes. I'm not overly worried as he's still a youngster and just hope he learns he always needs to be on his A game when on the pitch.

I think he was asked to run with the ball (playing to his strength that he can and he was fresh) and he just wasn't sharp enough from the restart. It happens. Not concerned at all!
June 22, 20206 yr He is a wonderful player - despite his 5 minutes, when he played like a one legged man uphill the K2. I suppose Frank had a short talk with him about his performance afterwards and we´ll see him again with all his power and speed.
June 23, 20206 yr I think he just fundamentally misunderstood the situation of the game. He was being brought on to add defensive cover and keep us solid. unfortunately he tried too hard to impress and ended up running into players and tripping over his feet. Just needed to keep it simple and not overdo it. Im sure he'll have been taught for next time.
June 23, 20206 yr I thought it was a strange change by Lampard. Under normal circumstances it made perfect sense but these are slightly odd times and bringing on a rusty defender to shore things up didn't make much sense to me. Inevitable they are going to be short of sharpness and you don't want that when trying to shut the back door. That and picking RLC to start were not Frank's best decisions but he also got his changes right as he hooked the two worst performers which turned the game. So all part of the learning curve I guess.

July 8, 20206 yr He's got a long way to go. Defensively i think one would have the call him poor currently. All over the place again yesterday and i don't particularly like his lackadaisical ways defensively.

July 8, 20206 yr Defensively he's poor, although he did make up a bit at the other end, it was a bad miss by Giroud to make a mess up James' pin point cross
July 8, 20206 yr He seems closer to Alexander-Arnold than he is to Wan Bissaka in the sense that he's good at going forward and putting in crosses but hes not very good defensively. Still has a way to go, but hes only 20 so its only natural. With more and more game time and not being as rusty, he should be fine
July 8, 20206 yr Needs a commanding/quick CB next to him. No surprise Alonso looked best when Tomori was behind covering him. Same needed for Reece.
