Liverpool are foreign. Have you heard the speak? That isn’t English!

True. I should have said 'a club on the European continent'. Or the MLS, to make our North American friends happy (or sort of).

This is the exact reason why I am worried about the players we have signed. If the majority of them turn out to be duds, then it won't matter who the manager is, we will be stuck with what we have for years.

TBF i'm not too worried about the signings we've made, they all clearly have potential and are some of the best young talent in the world. Academy players have no transfer value though so makes no sense to me unless its Reece.

I agree on the FFP point, but I can see why they might want to put any player on a long contract ...

Using Mount as an example, let's say at age 24 they give him a 4 year contract with a significant pay rise. Assuming he continues to perform, then there is another contact negotiation at age 27/28, presumably again with a decent pay rise, as the player is probably at his peak years at that age. The amount of money paid out by the club in those two contracts is almost certainly going to be more than what is paid out on a 7 year deal, especially if the new model of longer deals has a significant amount of the comp linked to performance, as we have heard regarding some of the new signings. Also Mount's next plus one deal at age 30/31 likely gives him less leverage due to his age.

It's basically trying to shift some of the power back to the club.

Yeah that makes sense, at the same time as a player would you be happy with your salary not changing for 7 years? You'd assume they'd be negotiating with players every 2 or 3 years or so based on performances anyway.

There are so many things wrong with that opening sentence there Gol!

I'm just saying if Potter doesn't know how to use a player like Mount that it would make little sense for him to sign a new contract, if in fact Potter is going to keep his job. Otherwise Mount could be once again a key player for us.

Mount is supposedly not happy with the amount offered, but it might well be the case that the contract length is an issue for him (or his agent) as well.

Personally, I don't have any sympathy with any modern player whining about their salary, given the ridiculous amounts they are all paid anyway!

Personally I don't blame a player one bit for trying to cash in on their talents.

Wanting 250k a week instead of 200k may look greedy on the face of it but it could be the difference between 4 generations of their family living comfortable lives instead of 3.

40% are bankrupt within five years of hanging up their boots.

Mason is just being greedy during a cost of greed crisis. Yes he should be paid what he's owed, I'd hate to see him in a Liverpool shirt, but they've had a woeful season so would he want to go there? He should be set for life on what he's already earned, the decision shouldn't be about cash but where he wants to play football and what will be his best path to major honours.

My trouble is, he aint no new Lampard, he's a very good player who has been out of form for a long time. I really want him to stay, I really like what he brings to CFC, he is CFC... but only if he can motivate himself to find the levels of performance we saw when he burst into the team under Lampard. Given Connor Gallagher is now back with us do we need to keep Mount. If I'm asking this question, you bet the person who signs the cheques off is asking the same.

If he does move on, I hope its to a Barcelona, Inter ya mum, or even Piss sh*t Goals...

Footballers are taxed like a mother f**ker. Their net is likely 60% of their gross.

There's a reason footballers publicly say they make more in sponsorships than wages.

Yet a corporation making billions can often end up paying virtually nothing in taxes, or even get taxpayer subsidies like Shell. Funny world

Would love him to stay but I do think the Abramovich era players are going to be tricky to get into the new wage structure.

Mount will be sat there saying Havertz has earnt X and I’ve been earning Y. I want at least the X he is on

If you set any stall on the valuations on Transfermarkt, Mount is listed as our most valuable player at 75m Euros, ahead of Sterling, James and Havertz at 70m, Wes Fofana at 65m, and then Enzo, Cucurella and Lukaku at 55m (a big ouch on Enzo, seeing as Boehly paid 121m LOL)

Mount is by far the lowest paid of all those ...

I've said before ask yourself this.

Your an integral member of your business or workforce, have done some pretty big things for the business, you see guys walking in on 3x your wage who produce next to nothing, your gonna be asking questions are you not?

Hes asked for less than mugs like lukaku gets less than sterling and kouli get , and we think hes being greedy ? I'm not having that, its bullsh1t . It's a narrative being driven and a significant number of  rank and file are falling for it

Why would the people in power not make it so the laws are in their favour?

Greedy is definitely the wrong word. But just because those players are on those contracts (they don't deserve that money either) it doesn't mean Mount should be on that money.

Assuming any of this talk is true, I don't think we should be paying him ridiculous wages like that. As much as I like Mount and I want him to stay here, I don't rate him that highly to be a key player in the team, therefore, I would rather sell him if that were the case. That's saying if he doesn't budge at all, a new contract he definitely deserves though, hopefully, we can find a good common ground.

Give him a pay raise, and buy his mate Rice in the summer, fixed. Under a good manager, he will re-discover his form and find the drive again, I don't think the last couple of seasons were fluke. If he plays under Klopp for Liverpool, there's the great player they could have for almost a decade. Considering how much we have spent, just bizarre to not offer him a better deal.

Feel sorry for Mason.  He gives it is all, and the harder he tries the more he struggles.  I believe in his quality and ability, just a rough time.

Potter has to take some accountability here.  Misfiring star players comes down to the manager, rotation and positions he is playing them in.  Mount, like many others, looks in two minds on the pitch.
