Kai Havertz

I'm thinking that Havertz might want to have some assurances that he will actually play, right now our first team has shown a lot of potential so it's safe to say that Tammy won't be happy if he's benched, same can be said for Mount and Pulisic and all of them have been our best attacking players this season. Sure Willian is leaving soon but Ziyech didn't come to sit on the bench either.
And then you have RLC coming back as well...

So Havertz would have to compete with Mount that is a favorite of Frankie and RLC that has tons of potential, he might want to have some guarantee of playtime before signing with us and I don't believe that Frank can give him that unless if Mount or RLC are to be sold...

So for me the main problem isn't the money even. Obviously it's a problem if we are to buy Chilwell for 60-80m and IMO a new LB should be the priority once Werner officially signs...but even with the money available for splashing, Havertz might just look to join another team, where he wouldn't have to wonder if he's going to be starting games or not.

You pay anything over £60m for any player & he walks in straight into almost any teams bar one or two, no questions asked. If we are indeed in for him & at the mooted price, it is because he is walking into the 1st team.

For me he is potentially a generational talent, and currently one of the best in his group.

Unfortunately for the number of clubs sniffing around him, I think we’re way down the list. He will choose Real, Barca and Bayern before us.

But Bayern cant afford to buy both him and Sane, they are targeting Sane. Real Madrid dont seem to have lots of cash to spend and Barca are broke it seems.

What are our rivals doing? Crumbled greats it seems [emoji23]

It's true, but Mount and RLC would be affected a lot by his arrival.

But isn't that the point of trying to build an increasingly good starting eleven, and a squad to choose from? This is professional football everywhere: when you're the best in a position, you start. When somebody else is better, you sit on the bench and work harder to regain your spot. Players know this ever since they were in the under-8.

You're right. I guess Mount will be looking for a new club if Havertz comes, I still think RLC has a lot to do so yea, for me Mount would be the first to go. Though I forgot about Barkley, it's either Barkley or Mount for me.

I guess the fact he is being called a generational talent means every club has to seriously look at him but do we not have our own Havertz in Mount? Who is only 21 and already pretty damn decent. It just doesn't make sense to me.

Mount won't be going anywhere. He plays exactly the game that Frank needs in that 8/10 role. Havertz's work off the ball isn't great just quietly so he'll have to improve on that front so will Ruben.

I think we kind of came to the point where it's obvious that Havertz would walk in the starting lineup as he's overall better than Mount so...

Not to belittle Chelsea, but he can easily join us like Hazard and then move onto one of those clubs after being a great player for us. Not saying he should use as a stepping stone, but its entirely possible he could once hes proved he can hack it at a big club like ours.

He has less chance of starting at those other clubs than with us

For me its a question of how fit RLC can stay. I was very negative on RLC at the start of his first team career with Chelsea as he is useless in defence. But towards the end before he was really injured he was starting to look so good going forward and with a great eye for being in the right place to score and with the unteachable ability to actually get the ball in the net.

Still if there is someone better lets go for it.

I think this is what Werner and Havertz are wanting to do.  Munich, Barca, Madrid >>> CFC >>>  Leipzig & Leverkusen

BTW, I watched the RM match today, Hazard looks like a robot.  Yeah he has good service but you don't see those darting runs into the box against defenders like you did when he was with us.

Ohh and eff Courtois!

For me personally, those are the only 3 clubs that are really much "bigger" than us right now.

I can see for someone like Havertz that Bayern would be his dream club being from Germany and all, but with his age and Bayern's current team it will be hard for him to get regular playing time. Joining us and proving how good he is to the world and he could still easily join them a few years down the line, even though I'd want to keep him!

Man City Midfield + Attacking line, against our fairly (I rushed this) equivalent player

Aguero (Werner)
Jesus (Tammy)
Sterling (Pulisic)
Sane (CHO)
B. Silva (Havertz)
D. Silva (Jorginho)
KDB (RLC)
Mahrez (Ziyech)
Foden (Mount)
Fernandinho (Kante)
Gundogan (Kovacic)
Rodrigo (Gilmour)

+ Barkley + Giroud + Bats + Ampadu

Talk of RLC or Mount feeling they have to leave is ridiculous. Man City can keep those players happy.

Barkley sure, Giroud yeah, but RLC, Tammy and Mount should be getting more than enough playing time and an opportunity to challenge against Havertz / Ziyech / Werner.

He's an overall better player, but again it's not Football Manager. It's about who suits the team better. Mason leads our press and does an awful lot to our play in general. He isn't easily discarded as you might suggest.

The boy looks a great talent but we our stacked in midfield. I just cant see us paying 90 million for another midfielder. I think Werner will play mostly wide left so we have spent around 150 million in the last few windows upgrading the wide positions. Personally i would prefer us buying a world class centre back a real leader who will help bring on the younger guys.

It depends on what Franks plans are, if he is planning on letting Jorginho and Barkley leave which I reckon would give us sufficient funds to bring in Kai Havertz as I reckon we should be able to get circa 80m from selling those 2, in that scenario our pursuit of Kai makes sense.

I agree we do need high level reinforcements in our defensive positions.

From what I've seen lately it seems more likely Kante is leaving over Jorginho.

From our midfield it would essentially be Kante, Barkley, Bakayoko and Drinkwater leaving and bringing in Havertz - And we should have more than enough funds to cover Havertz cost/salary and have plenty left over. Even if Kante were to stay, selling the other 3 to bring in Havertz should at least cover his salary and a significant portion of his transfer fee

I don't even want to think of Kante leaving

What centre back is available that fits that criteria, bearing in mind we wouldnt spend massivley on a 28 or 29 year old with very little resale value?

I dont see any options that give us a massive upgrade on what we have already, there are some promising centre backs that could make the step up, but no real stand out players.

Upamecano, Kamara, Ruben Dias, Romagnoli, Tapsoba, Konate, Ake, Soyoncu, Demiral, Gabriel. All potentially good, but maybe Lamps wants to see how the current group develop, and see if any of the other options real make a solid case over the next 12 months.

With Haverz it just seems like we have an incredible opportunity with many of our rivals hamstrung financially by covid, and we could take advantage and sign one of hottest prospects in europe.

Agree 100%. Rudi, Christensen, Zouma, Tomori, all 4 of these would be players would be on a fans wishlist if they didn't already play here. I'm very prepared to see how our CBs develop over the next 12 months.
