Armando Broja

A bit torn. He'll get enough minutes here when Kai needs a rest and/or we need to mix things up a bit but at the same time he'd be a very good striker for Moyes' system so a loan there has the potential to work aswell as Gallagher's at Palace (who similarly to Broja at Saints had an up/down spell at WBA before that).

I hope this isn't true because one I don't see how West Ham will utilize him any different to us. Ok, he may start more games because Antonio has been injury prone before but does he get in West Ham's best team? No. I think he will be a good supersub here and unless he is going to be a main starter there, I don't see why we would give loan Broja.

If Broja tears it up at West Ham, it allows them to see what they might have. A strong negotiating tool in our pursuit of Rice. If he doesn’t do well , he wouldn’t have been good enough for us anyway. So he’ll end up being sold to a team at his level and a price appropriate.

Broja has had, at best, half a good season at Southampton last year. Personally, I dont think that this is sufficient to be in the conversation for playing at Chelsea. That may be harsh, but we are (or aim to be!) looking at the top tier level of players, and whilst Broja might turn into that one day,  in my opinion, he isnt there yet.

That said, I would not be sending him to the Pikeys. Horrible club, with a cnut of a manager. I dont think Broja will start for them, and even if he did, why help them in any way? Much prefer a loan to someone like Brentford, Brighton, Newcastle or back to Southampton.

On what I saw last season that's a +1. However some players grow into the job. Lots of judgement required and even then many mistakes are made.

Growing up a Chelsea season ticket holder, in the 80s, in Essex I absolutely hate WHU.  My number 1 hated team (have Liverpool on a par with them now).  However, I have a lot of time for Moyes.  The reason for this?  Last season, when we played Arsenal at home, my Dad and I walked from Sloane Square station to the Bridge.  Moyes was also doing the same walk (we had WHU that weekend).  Two Chelsea fans stopped him for some selfies and Moyes walked the whole way, with these two Chelsea fans (one of them had a bad leg so was walking slow) - 25 minute walk - chatting away like they were best mates.  None of this "thanks, very much, bye bye".  At one point a cabbie jumped out of his cab for a selfie, and I asked for one to at that point.  My Dad being in his 70s took an age trying to work my iPhone and Moyes was joking how his Dad is rubbish with tech too.  My impression of Moyes is that he is really very decent, had a ton of time for all the Chelsea fans stopping him and the fact that these two Chelsea fans, in particular, was within for 25 mins and at no point did he try to make an excuse to get rid of them my Dad and I thought was class....

Nice to hear he isn't all scum.

Shame he didn't take animal cruelty seriously and continued to play Happy.

Personally I don't understand why we're sending Broja on loan when in fact he's the only pure striker we've got. I'm not counting Batshuayi because he's just a mistake that kept popping up every summer in between loan moves to remind us of how much money we've wasted over the last few years.

If we'd signed someone like Lewandowski at least it would make sense even though for a long season ahead with possible injuries, suspensions etc you need options. Apparently we've tried to hijack Jesus transfer to Arse and failed which means we were trying to get a striker. Is Tuchel not rating Broja? He did fade in the second half of last season at Soton but it's expected given his age.

Are we going to persevere with the false nine system?

Sounds like he's pushing for a starting position and we can't promise him that yet.

Getting closer and closer to West Ham by the looks of it. I hope it's a loan as I like Broja and I wished he stayed but it's hard these days when the very young lads have no patience.

He isn’t though;  he isn’t getting that at West Ham ahead of Antonio. He feels he will be behind Havertz, Sterling & Werner. This is where a manager is meant to step in with reassurances.

I think he would get plenty of chances here this season. Wouldn't begin the season as a starter but with every opportunity to force himself into the side.

He wouldn't push for West Ham if they haven't promised him a place in the XI so i'm fairly confident they have. I hope we got a buy-back clause or a first refusal at the very least because I like him and believe he is a good striker.

£30 million is a good deal though. Not that much less then we paid for Raheem Sterling which is good.

In a way we're victims of our own success when it comes to youth development. So many of our young players quickly established themselves in other clubs and even became key players (Tomori, Abraham, Guehi, Livramento, Lamptey etc) that nowadays most youngsters feel they can just leave and become a first teamer somewhere else right away rather than going from one loan to another hoping to make it at Chelsea one day.

£30m is silly money for an unproven player.

£30m is also not enough for a club that values Rice at £150m

I agree with the 2nd statement; he has a decent season and they will slap £80m+ on him.

My issue with 1st part is there are no forwards coming through. Liverpool paid close to €100m for a forward around the same age after one decent season in an average league, PSG are gambling on a 20yr old forward from Reims who they have an option on for €25m, Bayern have signed a 17yr old Mathys Tel as a long term replacement for Lewandowski, and Utd are thinking of replacing Ronaldo with Toney if the former leaves.

There seems to be the same pattern with the Mourinho regime when we sold our youth talents for short term results.

Let's imagine you are Borja. You look at our team and think where you are going to play. At best he will be kai backup and I don't think he will be great there especially after watching Lukaku n Tammy.

On the other hand you have west ham, moyes would tell Borja that he will play next to Antonio in 442 and it is an easy fit as he will play almost the same way as he play with soton.

You don't have to be a genius to see which path make more sense for him.

I would be content with selling him if we had a striker coming in through the door who is proven and top quality. We are selling him and we have no one and market is barren when it comes to strikers.

We don't need a st.

Would have liked to see him get a chance, but if he's pushing to be a first team regular, then I'm not that bothered. He scored what, 6 goals last season? Southampton fans seem to think he's far from top level, and had a purple patch. Maybe he'll progress and get better and better, but right now we can't be agreeing to have him as a starting striker really.

This is happening.

Shame about the lack of patience. Could have learned a lot with one year testing himself against Silva & Koulibaly every day at training and would also have seen a lot of game-time here in my opinion with the five subs now allowed and only Sterling signed up front so far at least.

I don't think Kai is the answer going forward. I am happy to be proven wrong but in my opinion we need someone more clinical.  I still think we should of gone for Gabriel Jesus, he's not the most attractive name out there but he would of suited us to the ground.

Great idea, we currently have a grand total of 1 actual striker in our first team squad, so lets sell him. No doubt we will then bring in some overseas player that will take half a season to settle and will have almost 0 impact. Colwill out next no doubt.

Pretty much sums up exactly my feelings too.
