June 7, 20206 yr I'd pay 85m for 23-year old Ashley Cole. Chilwell is nowhere near that level and I'm not sure he'll ever be. He's slightly above average, that's about it. Spiller86's video above is bad enough, but I seem to remember his performance vs Man City where Mahrez completely destroyed him, it was schoolboy level of defending. Now, maybe Frank sees something in him I don't, but honestly apart from being young and English I can't figure out what it is.
June 7, 20206 yr We need steel at the back. We lose battles in the box. Alonso is easily destroyed 4 at back, Emerson's never had a run of games due to injuries. Emerson is lightweight in the box.Could we just school Tomori to play left back. He has pace and a good frame. Not sure if he could operate higher up the flank though.

Maybe he just looks too much a fit. I feel if you give Emerson a run of games he can produce everything Chilwell can. Which isn't a good look for Chilwell when you consider how bad Emerson has been for us.
June 7, 20206 yr Which isn't a good look for Chilwell when you consider how bad Emerson has been for us. He's never had a run of games. Was 5/5 in Europa League final. He was excellent.

Zaha ripped apart Azpi when he was at his best 2-3 seasons ago and tormented him. It happens. When Leicester beat us at the Bridge last season, he along with Pereira were the best players on the pitch. He was absolutely sensational. I have been studying him closely for past 3 seasons and I am surprised at all the criticism he gets. Open play, offensively, he is one of the best FB around. His crossing and passing is quite good too and seems people are forgetting he is just 23. In the few matches he has played for England also, he has looked very impressive.

Emerson doesn't do anything, the game passes him by almost every time he plays.
June 8, 20206 yr Yeah Emerson is disappointing. He has everything physically to be a top left back, he has pace, ball control, passing, etc but positionally he’s not smart.

Ever wondered how no clubs from outside of england rarely go for players like this? Its always teams in the prem that are linked with these ridiculous pricetags for average players just because they're young and english. Chilwell 85m is almost as bad as Macguire 80m and Stones 50m
June 8, 20206 yr I am saying he hasn't really had the chance. Injuries really hit him and at worst of times. At best he can do what Chilwell does. Chilwell's ceiling however is potentially much higher.
June 8, 20206 yr If we do sign Chilwell for 60m will that be the most unpopular signing any club has made for that money? No one seems to think he's worth over 50m.
June 8, 20206 yr Maybe there are not so many good LB these days and that's why his value is said to be so high?

June 8, 20206 yr According to the transfermarkt website Chilwell is 4th most valuable LB in the world. Emerson is 17th and with the same value as Man City's Zinchenko. If Lampard wants him then he should go for him, maybe he will end up really good. Sell Emerson to Sarri or whatever for around 30m and buy Chilwell for 70m in total and that would mean that we actually paid 40m which is totally ok!

There are though; off my head Lodi, Grimaldo, Telles, Tagliafico, Saka, Tsimikas and that is discounting the unattainable like Alphonso Davies, Alaba & Ferland Mandy.

The max we would get is £20m because his market is limited to Italy, and they are tight fisted.

Atletico are not selling him, no chance. Arsenal would also not be selling him, especially to us (also sure he’s said he prefers playing as a winger). The others I agree are obtainable but it doesn’t mean they fit the profile of what we’re looking for. I would assume our scouts, Frank etc will have done their research on all these players and decided that Chilwell is their No1 priority. Personally I would prefer we looked at Telles and keep Alonso which means there’s still a path for Maatsen who I think has high potential. Frank and Ash seem to see something in Chilwell though and if we can get him for a reasonable price I’m inclined to trust them. I don’t think the club will be spending anything near £80m on him though that’s for sure.
June 9, 20206 yr People really need to stop thinking FIFA or Football Manager are real life, just throwing loads of names out as though its as simple as that. The management team will look for a specific type of player that fits not only the way they want to play but also fits into the team ethic, the attitude, the pay structure and the overall plan going forward. They will have looked at all these players and made a decision based on suitability to all those criteria and also availability They dont just filter on football manager by current ability...

They use the same data the data trackers give out from players performances and abilities in terms of pace and so on. The random factor is the mentality. It is not 100% naturally but dissing those games is just uninformed.
