Jules Kounde

Odd. I thought we were under sanctions. Tuchel has been suggesting that we can’t even talk to potential targets. Has Marina been tapping players up? Good on her.

I think we agree deals, just the paperwork needs to be completed after the sanctions are lifted.

It's hard to really know for certain how it works, but I'd assume all we cannot do is make the actual payment. There should be no reason the board can't make an offer or come to an agreement with a club through informal talks with no binding agreement.

Let's assume it goes something along these lines

Marina: what is the asking price for Jules?

Sevilla board: €70-80m

Marina: Once the ownership is sorted we would be willing to meet these conditions

Marina/board agreed terms already with Jules last summer and supposedly that agreement is still in place.

I think the plan is to have as many informal agreements in place as possible so that once the club sale goes through. We are not behind with regards to trying to start discussions with specific targets who despite the window not even being open could have agreements in place with other clubs.

Essentially what we have right now are maybe 4-5 top targets who may have an informal agreement with the club and are being asked to be patient.

Kounde will replace Azpilicueta

Gvardiol will replace Rudiger

Colwill will replace Christensen

If that's the case we'll lose experience in the short term but ability wise I don't think we'll be that much worse off, if atall.

This loss of experience or leadership shout is not something I totally agree of.  Rudiger and Azpilicueta were both at the helm, for years, of our dip in form Nov-Dec along with being players rumored to oust the manager (Sarri, Lampard).

Think many will be surprised with just how well we will cope without them. Azpilicueta at this point is just a disaster.

I have watched Gvardiol a few times and on the ball, he plays more like a CM, but he's quite aggressive with his defending too. He woud definitely be a direct replacement for Rudiger.

If we get him and Kounde in, I think that would be ideal.

Complete disaster. If it weren’t for Saul being here, you could argue that Azpi is our worst first team player. Great servant to the club and was terrific in his prime. But he’s lost it.

I think Gvardiol is still only 19 too, maybe just turned 20? Exciting young player.

Yep, he looks really good every time I watch him. These are the type of players I want us to go and sign, players that are about to breakthrough. Get him now before his value rises even more and somebody like City grabs him.

Good thing about him is that he can play sweeper as well, giving Silva a break when needed and the option to play Colwill at LCB.

Not seen any semi solid links qe are after him. Unlike Kounde.

Imagine we will have to pay the full 80m release clause since everyone in the world knows we absolutely need to sign defenders this summer. I'm sure Sevilla will not be eager to give us a discount.

Which would be galling and a failure on our part since we could have signed him for the release last summer and did not.

3 proven defenders in the Premier league, replaced by 2 and a kid. Risky

Yes. I’ll be surprised if we don’t bring in at least one experienced defender. Koulibaly has been mentioned but I don’t know how realistic that is.

Hope we keep azpi one more season to help develop these lads

Would love it if Azpi stays for 2 seasons at least. There is absolutely no sign of him slowing down. We need at least one backbone with Silva to make it easier for the new lads.

Kounde for me is unknown. I have watched the odd YouTube-video and I know his reputation but I guess it is a big gamble in anyway. His pricetag is massive and apparently Sevilla is a club very hard to negotiate with. He is in English-born player category.

I really hope Tuchel knows him well. If he loves to have him, I am all for it.
