He is a very good player who just hasn't found his way yet this season, which is down to a variety of reasons from the manager changing his positions: RWB/CM/CAM and then change in formations and generally majority of the squad has been sh*t. He has not been that good so far but how many players in our squad can you say that about? This comment is nonsense sorry and I don't get how that makes sense. First of all, he was never at Norwich on loan. He was at West Brom on loan, who he joined at the age of 20 and was one of their better players. The following season he was voted Palace player of the season and was brilliant and got their POTY in a season where Zaha had his best goalscoring tally in a season ever. He scored 8 goals last season for Palace and deservedly broke in the England team because of his performances. So if anything, his loans actually proved that he is a very good player and deserved a place in the squad, not the contrary. Baring in mind he was 21/22 during his Palace loan, he did tremendously well. The whole team has been mismanaged this season and looked out of sorts and there has been times he has suffered due to it. Excellent post, pretty much everything he wrote was rubbish and nonsense, but its not a surprise as theres a section of our fans who dont rate anyone English or from the academy and immediately want them sold and replaced with a £70m Spanish/Italian/German player for some reason.

Wasn't technically great but covered lots of ground and was willing to kill his own granny to get a win. Was a leader, never gave up, but could start a fight in a phone box. Left a foot in. A little bit wooh, hoo. A little bit waay, hey. Anyone remember him pinching Ginger Scholes and Ferguson nearly bursting a blood vessel. The sort of player you loved playing for you, but would have hated with a passion as an opponent. Infectious, that's the best word to describe him. Always in the middle of everything. Infectious. Got everyone fired up. The fans and his team mates. I see a little bit of that in Gallagher. Still early days for him but we probably need to nurture that see how it goes. He`s everything we are lacking at the moment, no fight or battle in the midfield, no aggression at all, just wafty farts meandering around. His football ability was very much underrated also, he was kept in the team as the technical imports started arriving and changed the way we played and he didn't look out of place at all.
January 18, 20233 yr I remember his debut, not too impressed being from Wimbledon yet for us was top drawer often got important goals for us and was good with pressure penalties. He scored at both Anfield and Old Trafford and we won both matches.

Look at the Man City starting XI, look at the Liverpool starting XI, look at the Arsenal starting XI, look at the Man United starting XI. Newcastle will be there soon. The maximum is two English players, forget about the academies. And now compare that to our squad. Reece-James has to play, no question about that, Chillwell too probably. But that's already two. Now the problems start. Sterling is still good enough and has to play, right? Now some say Mount is brilliant, an academy player as well and all that, so four already. Gallagher too now? Five. Fine. But don't complain if Tottenham win something before we do. Yes, I said Tottenham. Let me just make it clear that Havertz, Pulisic, Higuain, Morata, Bakayoko and all the others under-performing doesn't change that. There's only so many English players that can compete at the top top level that is the PL and they won't all be Chelsea academy players. We are blessed if we get one or two academy players a generation that are good enough to make our starting XI. That should be enough. Labeling people as Spanish/Italian/German fanboys won't change that either.

Liverpool regularly play Trent, Henderson, Gomez and Harvey Elliott. Arsenal start Ramsdale, Saka, White, Nketiah and would also start Smith-Rowe if he was fit. Newcastle actually started 5 english players in their last game. Really not sure what you were trying to achieve with this post. Add to that, ours and United's "great" sides of the 2000's were heavily made up with a core of English players. To say that there's only so many English players that can compete at the top in the PL is inaccurate, considering plenty of the top teams now and historically have enjoyed great success with a good core of English players in their side.

No they don't. They are rotated in and out. Especially not in the bigger games. Look at their last games. Except for Newcastle, and I specifically left them out, none started with more than two iirc. Mind you, you want academy players too, not just English players. Talking about the 2000's is living in the past. But ok, compare our current English and academy players to our and Uniteds core back then. You really believe they're on a similar level? I don't, look at our results, and look at the way we play.

Their recent games: City started 4 V Tottenham, 2 Vs United, 3Vs Us in the cup, 3 Vs Us in the League, 3 Vs Everton United started 3 V Palace, 3 Vs City, 2 Vs Everton In the cup, 4 Vs Bournemouth Arsenal Started 4 Vs Spurs, 4Vs Newcastle, 4vs Brighton, and 4vs West Ham (the same 4 in each game btw) Your original post said "The maximum is two English players, forget about the academies." I think instead of maximum it's a minimum of 2, judging on the few above, and by the looks of it is a mix of academy players, and English players they have signed from elsewhere. It's about getting the balance right, nobody is suggesting we have an all English 11, but clearly the maximum isn't 2. 3 of our current English players won the champions league 2 years ago, 2 of them coming from the academy, and all 3 of them had a massive part to play in that success.

Fair enough, make it 3 instead of 2. But its a clear pattern, at least to me it is. Only Reece-James and Chilwell should play, and Sterling I guess. Mount needs to get benched and improve massively. Wanting Gallagher in the starting XI is just a bad joke imho. But that's where the English+academy favouritism comes into play and people get mad. So be it. But don't complain about the results. PS: I'd rather start Zyiech than having that c**t Graelish prance around the pitch.
January 20, 20233 yr Nationality doesnt matter, I dont care where anyone is from as long as they play well. Why on earth should any manager put a limit on playing players from a certain country, especially one where the club is actually based. Where you from Vagabond? Edited January 20, 20233 yr by dkw
January 20, 20233 yr Can we have all British players please, none of these foreign nazis thanks. Oh and also limit the age to 32yo as well, these old guys are crap. Sounds daft right ?

Not that it matters, but i was born and am living in Vienna. My dad is from Salzburg, my mum is from London. So I have two reasons to hate ze Germans. 😜 It's not about limiting players from a certain country or our own academy, it's about limiting players that aren't good enough. In recent years there was a hype around RLC, CHO and Gilmour. People even thought Barkley would be the next big thing at Chelsea. Mind boggling. Just so you don't think I'm biased against English or our own academy players; Reece-James is on another level and our best player by far. Edited January 20, 20233 yr by Vagabond
January 20, 20233 yr But none of that is exclusive to young English players, there's been loads of overseas players hyped to hell that have failed, in fact I'm pretty sure there's more overseas than English.
January 20, 20233 yr Look, we're not that far apart. What we've spent on Kepa, Lakaka, Werner, Havertz and Pulisic is absurd. It's not foreign players vs English players in my mind. But the initial sentiment Blue72 brought up that we're holding on to rubbish players hoping that they will come good and we are over hyping our academy players is absolutely spot on and I don't understand how people could disagree about that. It's not like I'm blind.

It's not like I'm blind. I think there's a balance. Obviously we all want to see academy prospects doing well and it feels extra special to see them performing in the team. Seeing players Like Mount and Reece in the team makes me extremely happy as I've seen them progress through the youth system until the team. But I think some people take it too far to the point they pretend useless deadwood like Loftus Cheek are worth a squad spot solely because they came from the youth academy despite proving otherwise on an almost weekly basis. Being from Cobham should be a nice bonus or a small positive and not the entire reason a poor plauer is wasting a squad spot.

January 30, 20233 yr Take it and send it straight to Benfica imo. Lot of money for someone that doesn't really improve us. Assuming Mount signs a contract i don't see a future for Conor sadly.
January 30, 20233 yr It's a lot of money I'd be pretty tempted to take it even though I rate him. Just a bit crap for this season that our midfield back up is going to be RLC.

January 30, 20233 yr Read that if we accept we'd technically have recorded a profit this January from an FFP standpoint.
