This comment is nonsense sorry and I don't get how that makes sense. First of all, he was never at Norwich on loan. He was at West Brom on loan, who he joined at the age of 20 and was one of their better players. The following season he was voted Palace player of the season and was brilliant and got their POTY in a season where Zaha had his best goalscoring tally in a season ever. He scored 8 goals last season for Palace and deservedly broke in the England team because of his performances. So if anything, his loans actually proved that he is a very good player and deserved a place in the squad, not the contrary. Baring in mind he was 21/22 during his Palace loan, he did tremendously well. The whole team has been mismanaged this season and looked out of sorts and there has been times he has suffered due to it.

Excellent post, pretty much everything he wrote was rubbish and nonsense, but its not a surprise as theres a section of our fans who dont rate anyone English or from the academy and immediately want them sold and replaced with a £70m Spanish/Italian/German player for some reason.

I remember his debut, not too impressed being from Wimbledon yet for us was top drawer often got important goals for us  and was good with pressure penalties.

He scored at both Anfield and Old Trafford and we won both matches.

Vastly underrated player was Wisey but not by Chelsea.

Really not sure what you were trying to achieve with this post.

No they don't. They are rotated in and out. Especially not in the bigger games. Look at their last games. Except for Newcastle, and I specifically left them out, none started with more than two iirc. Mind you, you want academy players too, not just English players.

Talking about the 2000's is living in the past. But ok, compare our current English and academy players to our and Uniteds core back then. You really believe they're on a similar level? I don't, look at our results, and look at the way we play.

City started 4 V Tottenham, 2 Vs United, 3Vs Us in the cup, 3 Vs Us in the League, 3 Vs Everton
United started  3 V Palace,  3 Vs City, 2 Vs Everton In the cup,  4 Vs Bournemouth
Arsenal Started 4 Vs Spurs, 4Vs Newcastle, 4vs Brighton, and 4vs West Ham (the same 4 in each game btw)

It's about getting the balance right, nobody is suggesting we have an all English 11, but clearly the maximum isn't 2.

3 of our current English players won the champions league 2 years ago, 2 of them coming from the academy, and all 3 of them had a massive part to play in that success.

Fair enough, make it 3 instead of 2. But its a clear pattern, at least to me it is.

Only Reece-James and Chilwell should play, and Sterling I guess. Mount needs to get benched and improve massively. Wanting Gallagher in the starting XI is just a bad joke imho. But that's where the English+academy favouritism comes into play and people get mad. So be it. But don't complain about the results.

PS: I'd rather start Zyiech than having that c**t Graelish prance around the pitch.

 

Nationality doesnt matter, I dont care where anyone is from as long as they play well. Why on earth should any manager put a limit on playing players from a certain country, especially one where the club is actually based. Where you from Vagabond?

Not that it matters, but i was born and am living in Vienna. My dad is from Salzburg, my mum is from London. So I have two reasons to hate ze Germans. 😜
It's not about limiting players from a certain country or our own academy, it's about limiting players that aren't good enough. In recent years there was a hype around RLC, CHO and Gilmour. People even thought Barkley would be the next big thing at Chelsea. Mind boggling.

Just so you don't think I'm biased against English or our own academy players; Reece-James is on another level and our best player by far.

Look, we're not that far apart. What we've spent on Kepa, Lakaka, Werner, Havertz and Pulisic is absurd. It's not foreign players vs English players in my mind. But the initial sentiment Blue72 brought up that we're holding on to rubbish players hoping that they will come good and we are over hyping our academy players is absolutely spot on and I don't understand how people could disagree about that. It's not like I'm blind.

I think there's a balance.  Obviously we all want to see academy prospects doing well and it feels extra special to see them performing in the team.  Seeing players Like Mount and Reece in the team makes me extremely happy as I've seen them progress through the youth system until the team.

But I think some people take it too far to the point they pretend useless deadwood like Loftus Cheek are worth a squad spot solely because they came from the youth academy despite proving otherwise on an almost weekly basis.

Being from Cobham should be a nice bonus or a small positive and not the entire reason a poor plauer is wasting a squad spot.

Take it and send it straight to Benfica imo. Lot of money for someone that doesn't really improve us. Assuming Mount signs a contract i don't see a future for Conor sadly.

It's a lot of money I'd be pretty tempted to take it even though I rate him. Just a bit crap for this season that our midfield back up is going to be RLC.
