Levi Colwill

Very solid today. His best attribute was his passing. On another level his technical ability. His long range passing was excellent today. Set up several attacks for Brighton and his long range pass was the catalyst for Brighton's first goal. His stats for today has been posted over Twitter so maybe some will post it here but excellent performance.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing folks. Before the start of the season, Colwills only experience was Championship level. Had we played him at the start and never brought in any experience people would be saying it's risky, especially to put all that pressure on someone so young.

Now he's gone out on a loan in a PL team and he's proven himself. We've got an exciting team, and I certainly think he will be starting next season.

So was James' before coming in and starting for us tbf. Glad season is nearly over, hope we can get him back in for pre-season early. Need to build the defence around him.

He needs to be our starter next season.

He's a quality defender and needs a chance to show it with us.

The way Brighton are playing is crazy, their low buildup under pressure and they move the ball no matter what, also they can play a direct ball like they did against Arsenal and Colwill is useful for the both of ways.

Defensively he's good also, looks with the right tempo and good defensive abilities.

True, but we had a transfer ban that season, so we needed to use the likes of Mase, Tammy, and Reece. We didn't have any options at RB besides Azpi who was starting his decline.

We will likely see a lot more directness from our CBs next season under Pochettino hence why I believe the report he wants to utilize Colwill.

For sure. Pochettino turned Eric Dier into the world class CB monster baller he is now.

Should we be worried?

Reports of City, as well as Liverpool, wanting Levi and willing to spend top money to get him.

Certainly would strengthen Colwills hand when going in for talks for Pochettino. Potential treble winners want you, so is he Pochettino number 1 guy or will he be in stands watching Koulibaly take that place?

Badiashille has picked up an injury, even more reason to keep onto Colwill

Don't go and listen to his latest interview with The Athletic if you want to be confident he's staying this summer...

Honestly he should do everything he can to facilitate the move to Brighton and we shouldn't get in his way, just include a buy back clause so he hopefully comes back when we are more stable.

I don't have faith in the club giving him the game time he requires. His development would be better at Brighton along with Gilmour.

No chance.

He is a top talent and we are just about to appoint a new coach who has a great track record of working with and bringing through younger players. Forget what has gone before and put some optimistic spectacles on FFS!!

Interesting, he likes to "repay" clubs that give him a chance apparently. If that was the case he'd have stayed at Huddersfield this season given they gave him his first big role in men's football and he'd have felt some guilt over his play off final own goal.

It's clearly a ploy to put pressure on the club/Pochettino to make him a big part of the team. I don't really like this tactic generally speaking but Levi does have a lot of leverage (contract on 2 years, actually good enough for the position etc).

Normally am but this season has taken that away. I'll believe it when I see it.

In an interview with The Athletic, the 20-year-old had to be reminded which club he is - permanently - contracted to. He laughed and replied: 'I forgot for a minute'.

He was then asked about where he sees his future, to which he said: 'Brighton have done a lot for me. They put their trust in me when others didn't and I'm a person that loves to repay that. We'll see.

'I don't know what is going to happen [at Chelsea]. I'm still here until the end of the season. I just focus on that, then I've got the Euros [U21 European Championship with England] in the summer.

'After that, we'll see what happens and go from there. I love the Brighton fans, I love everything about them. I'll take that into consideration.'

'When Roberto came in, he just changed things,' Colwill explained. 'His mentality as a manager is world class and he is definitely going to be one of the best managers in the world, if he's not already.

'That's what you need at a club like this, that's what you need to take us to the next level. I never realised how good the players are and he's come in and playing the style — oh, it's amazing.

'It fits everyone in the changing room. That's why they are all playing outrageous football.'

What exactly does this mean? Methinks he's prone to VD.

Seems to insinuate he thinks he should have got a shot at Chelsea and when he didn't Brighton gave him a shot in the Prem and he wants to stay there. TBF they have Europe next season and we don't. Might be reading into it too much, who knows though.

I think we pretty much HAVE to give him game time next season. I doubt Silva can keep up another season, at least if Pochettino plays his favoured 4-man defense. Ousting Koulibaly shouldnt't be the biggest challenge based on this season at least. That leaves Chalobah ,Fofana and Badiashile - the latter of which will probably miss all of pre-season. I'm quite sure one of Silva/Koulibaly/Chalobah leaves as well.

Meanwhile, we don't have the money to prioritize purchasing another central defender, as midfield and attack is where we need to splash whatever cash we can while still complying to FFP

I'd look rather positively at this if I was Levi.

Re his comments: they are maybe a little over the top, but he had a great loan and he obviously loved it there. If he plays for us at the start of next season, he'll soon get over it I reckon

It won't just be about gametime though. If he resigns here he will have to do so for a lot of years as we know the club is seeking to tie everyone down to long contracts.

And with the club is disarray currently you may basically be gambling with your career if you extend instead of going for one of the safer options.
Brighton who'll finish 6 places ahead of us wants him, Guardiola wants him at City and so on.

There's been a contract offer on the table for many months at this point. I don't think gametime is the only reason he's not extended yet to put it that way.

Agree with that, it's quite clear there are other reasons as well. However, playing regularly and feeling valued tends to heal a lot of issues (as long as you're at a club that regularly plays in Europe and pays well)

Of course, if the mess continues, Pochettino gets the sack in February and we miss out on Europe again, even that might not be enough

It just keeps getting worse and worse ... Is there no day without bad news anymore? Yesterday Mudryk, today Colwill with "questionable" actions off the pitch. And these guys are supposed to be our future. Character seems to be one of our main problems. These players are just not comparable in any way shape or form to the ones carrying us years ago.

The guy was developed by our academy and now he "forgot" he was a Chelsea player? WTF?

I'm not surprised at his frustration. You see Fofana bought for big money, Badashile, and Koulibaly come in and don't give your talented young CB a chance. Too often Chelsea neglect these youth players over buying for big money.
