I don't think he is better than Christensen though, same goes for Azpi. It's a move that could see somebody like Colwill forcing a transfer out of the club, a player who has a much higher ceiling. If we sell Colwill, I wouldn't be surprised if one of City or Liverpool go and sign him 2 seasons later. With Silva (38) and Koulibaly (31) on our books, it would be around the time we would be looking for an upgrade ourselves, something we wouldn't need to do if we keep Colwill.

I fully expect Colwill to be a better player than Ake is now in the next 24 months and it would really piss me off if he is snapped up by one of our rivals.

I know we get accused of short term thinking a lot, but this would be one of the worst cases of it to date.

That's fair

@BordeauxBlue Kimpembe or Kounde for you?

One is a stronger defender, but if we sign Koulibaly, which I hope we do, we have that type covered.

I prefer Kounde's profile, as he's better with the ball at his feet, better at reading the game too.

Seemingly the same-ish price as well.

I really feel like Ake is all smoke and mirrors, I can't say I've seen enough consistent play from him to justify a ludicrous transfer fee.

Back 3 Ake, back 4 Kimpembwe. If we're not signing a new LB or improvising with Gallagher there i may be Ake regardless (anyone but Emerson at this point).

From everything that has been reported and Tuchel's public comments on him, he appears to have a specific plan with Gallagher.

We will just have to wait and see what that exactly is.

Gallagher as CB to rotate Thiago and Colwill to get number 9

He's backup level at best, maybe a starter for Everton/Brentford-level at best

Deino. Exactly the same comments he overwhelming majority on here made when we signed Gary Cahill.

All hail King Gary ....... Winner of Everything.

Nevertheless: going after the sentiments in this very thread City would have done great business selling their poor back-up to us for what, 40m, but for some reason they prefer keeping said player for that money risking to leave us with say Koundé in the process - a player some said would eventuall replace Ake in the City squad... So what is it?

Maybe he's actually not that bad a player and apparently City know that.

RWB when needed, bench all the other times, come on for 10 minutes at LWB....

Difference is City see him as a backup option and we’re looking at him as a starter.  It’s probably difficult to find a player of similar quality who’s happy to sit on their bench.  Maybe Kounde has some ambition and isn’t willing to sit on City’s bench all season like Ake.  Maybe he’s not worth £40m.

That's what many weren't getting when we heard the phrase (paraphrasing) "OMG we're going to fund their new world class CB".

They already have three of them if they used the Ake money to sign another one of said three would get unhappy pretty quickly and want to leave, leaving them in the exact same position as before.

If Gallagher isn't being earmarked as the new Kante by Tuchel I'll be shocked.

What's the betting we do something ridiculous like wait for City to sign the lad from Brighton then bid 55mill for Ake!??

Apparently he was immense for City against Bayern yesterday, though I wasn't able to catch the game. Don't think he'll be leaving them.
