Lewis Hall - Our next big Homegrown prospect!

Featured Replies

Hall a very promising prospect forced out the door bc of playing time for 28 mill + add ons

OR

Sold to raise funds that go onto this years books as pure profit to counter the absurdity of a billion plus US dollar spend, only a few academy lads left to sell before the window closes whose neck is up next on Bully's chopping block I wonder ?

Emotion aside, that's pretty good business for an 18 year old with less than 10 Premier League appearances.

Compared to the various young, unproven, south american players we signed recently? Not sure about that.

Santos and Casadei look decent to me, really annoyed about us splashing near 30 million on that kid in France though, no idea what that nonsense is about especially now that we've just signed two young DM's on a lot of money...

As much as I love to praise our board lately, there are some things that really make you second guess.

OR the reality:

Turned down a new contract. Family are Newcastle, he thinks he will get first-team game time in the NE as a back-up LB.

Looks signed from what I've read. Do you not think he is being sold mainly because of ffp after last weeks spend? Newcastle have bid multiple times through the summer and yet Hall signed( or the very least agreed to, for arguements sake) and committee to 7 year deal.

I'm sure he is a happy to go to Newcastle, but reading between the lines we have pulled him the palace loan, and sold him to Newcastle as we overspent last week, and we cant shift Cucurella. I also think this in turn has turned the deal sour with Olise, as Palace no doubt wouldnt have been threatening legal action had Hall been heading there on loan.

As much as I don't think Boehly and co have much footballing sense ,I don't want to believe they'll be that short sighted to buy all the players they have and just be hoping that somewhwre down the line they'll sell Hall to make up for it. But then again you never know with these people.

Any player that wants to leave Chelsea for a club of lower status is welcome to leave in my opinion. We don't need players that think like that. Nothing wrong with his ambition or backing himself or taking on the opportunity to play for a club dear to his heart but I generally don't have the tears for those sorts.

waited until your Caicedo deal had gone through meaning you'd over-sold yourselves on FFP before we declared interest,

Was the person that said this Machiavelli by any chance as sounds very Machiavellian.

We are in credit as regards to FFP, not by much but it's not a problem as people want to make out, yet. And that's coming from someone who didn't support the move due to its FFP implications in future . Keyword being future.

Tough one. If the Newcastle fan and family reasons are true, then I wish him well and support that.

He would have been a great prospect, and ideally a backup LB. Reality is he is not getting a kick in midfield now, and won’t displace Chilly, so from a business sense this also makes sense especially given Cucu situation and Maatsan depth.

He’ll be a great premier league and international player.

I dont think that it was a black and white as that. Especially when you factor in we ended over paying by a lot for 2 targets, and Chalobah is now injured which makes him tricker to sell.

We have lost better academy players for free, so I wont be losing any sleep. I think we couldve got closer to £50m off Newcastle though if we got him a decent prem loan else where for a season. They clearly like the fact he is a Newcastle fan, from Newcastle family, and if he had smashed it at Palace, he would be worth even more.

Sacrifices and mistakes will happen along the way when the club are being so aggressive in the market.

I feel Hall will prove to be a mistake financially, but let's be honest, if we need a left back in a few seasons time, they will just pay the money to get the best on the market. It's sad for the acamedy lads, but it's like this at every big club.

Good player and still very young. Looks like a player who will have a good career in the prem.

If he ever makes it to the very top, who knows, but he has to think about the best way ahead for himself and if he believes that’s with the barcodes and he has the family connection I think its probably an easy decision for him.

£30/35m is a good fee for him and hopefully a sell on clause.

I mean hypothetically speaking what if it really did come down to Hall or Maatsen?

Tough one. Made tougher by Poch's apparent reluctance to play Maatsen at LB.

Path at LB blocked by an overpaid £60m liabilty.

Path at CM blocked by copious youth players we've bought from other clubs that were unneeded and arguably not as good.

Sums it up perfectly for me:

With the LB position, I could agree, but not with the CM. I did like Hall when he played last season as LWB, I thought he carried danger and got into good positions to score (even though he missed some very good chances, expected given his age). I haven't seen him play in the midfield, but he hasn't played there under several coaches (and he won't be playing there in Newcastle either), so I don't think that he is a better midfielder than any of the ones we've got now. Do you think that he is better than Gallagher, Enzo, Caicedo or Lavia?

And on the flip side, all the fans going mad about this sale (which for the record I agree is an error) would be raging about us signing an 18 year old with 12 career appearances for that price.

I see it is initially a loan. Does anybody know whether it is a loan with option or a loan with obligation? If the former I suppose there is a chance he may return after this season if the loan doesn't work well.

Obligation With A Big Sell On Clause Too I've Seen

surely that means his fee isn't counting towards this summer's FFP then? and if that is the case, why have we rushed to agree a fee now rather than plain loan?

he's bound to go up in value with another 12 months of PL football
