Andrey Santos Signs for Chelsea

The Santos situation is a reflection of modern society, we want it all and we want it now, it's been 2 games into a glorified pre-season friendly tournament and he's apparently being forced out? Just chill for god sake he'll get his chance.

Based on what? Apart from you lot's undying hatred of our ownership? I'm pretty sure we planned on bringing him on during the Flamengo game but because Jackson decided to leave his brain at home we had to change our entire game plan. Not to mention Santos has only been with the squad less than 2 weeks because Santos was with the Brazil squad.

Much like Petrovic and Paez, if the club wanted Santos gone they wouldn't have been in the squad.

Who knows what’s been said behind closed doors. Meresca may have told him he’s already seen enough this season and he’s part of his plans next season.

I’m pretty sure Petrovic asked to stay behind, he clearly feels unwanted by maresca which is crazy as he’s the best keeper on our books at the minute.. We’re just hoping the same doesn’t happen with Santos.

I think it's just concern. There are rumours going around and experience with these kinds of thing leads people to think there maybe something in it. Seeing him play would immediately put those that are concerned at ease.

I also think fans are also annoyed at how we have handled the Club World Cup so far. We were hoping Petrovic would be used, but now it looks like he will be sold. Paez was promised the Club World Cup, that didn't happen, now we aren't even seeing Santos play. It's just a continuation of the constant sh*t show we are seeing at this club.

Fact of the matter is, there’s virtually no reason why he hasn’t seen minutes. None. Essugo got scraps, granted, but Santos is genuinely ready to step in for both Lavia and Enzo yet he hasn’t got a sniff. Why? Is he now 6th choice behind James, who’s a RB?

We have a manager who is complicating almost everything and us fans certainly won’t tolerate it again this season.

We should be starting him in this last group game. Yes, we may need to win but let's face it we are playing a team who no one has heard of. Caicedo on a yellow. Start him and let him play. We are going to dominate the ball so see what he can do. If he don't start this upcoming game, then he will not start the knockout game, so play him. PSG had a 'must win' game next season and they still trusted some off their youngsters to play. Play him, no excuses.

How come the likes of Essugo get to play immediately then?

Looked like a poor man's Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

He is alright then! Brazilian KDH is what we are after. Average player with Brazilian passport. 😅

Nice to see him finally make his Chelsea debut LOL, but hard to see much from the limited highlights package I was able to find. Nice shot that was on target with the unintentional handball for the penalty incident. Sideways pass for the "assist" for Tyrique George. That was about it. Rated at 6.8 on Sofascore which was a higher rating than Essugo managed, probably down to the assist.

Hopefully we'll see a bit more of him in the knock outs but I doubt it. Next outing probably in the pre-season friendlies !

I think Essugo was with the squad a couple of weeks before Santos so Maresca has seen more of him. Either way he got some time today so hopefully it continues.

How did Andrey do? Didn't watch the game due to its impossible hour.

Got 20 minutes, hard to tell, no real impact but came on amongst a host of changes. Mugged for possession once. Enzo was running the show and we lost that.

Santos struggled

  1. Because he was thrown on when the better players we had on the pitch went off

  2. Hardly anyone passed to him because the defenders were too busy passing it between themselves

  3. The only times he did get the ball in an advanced position, he had a shot that hit the defender on the hand and then for the 5 yard pass sideways for Georges goal

I don't think that was a fair game to judge him on, the question is will Maresca give him a chance or is he off. It's not looking good him TBH.

I don't think it's really fair to judge any player fully when they come on as a sub. There are so many other variables outside of their control that could affect the role they have to perform. Subs from 60 - 70 mins on in a game are usually (Jackson excepted) for tactical reasons which won't always fit the profile of the player.

By looking at his stats and that of Essugo they both acquitted themselves well in the circumstances they were in . I think I read that Essugo won all of his duels/tackles. Santos had an assist. Good enough cameos from both.
