Imagine going to a job performance review, and your accomplishments were sealing a loan move for development and then organizing a sale for a troubled player. Then canceling both the day before the window closes. What value are you actually producing for the club at that point

Full amateur hour there. I’m sure they remember Jackson and Guiu both getting injured in Jan on last day or window and they’ve panicked. Or we simply can’t sign anyone under the Uefa financial restrictions.

Bizarre turn of events.

I would be very surprised if clubs aren't getting pissed off with us.

We pulled out of the obligation to buy Sancho from United.

Unsettled Simons at Leipzig.

Cancelled the loan deal for Jackson to go to Bayern in the last minute.

Recalled Guiu from his season long loan move from Sunderland right at the end of the window.

Let's not forget us recalling Chalobah from Palace last season either.

If the plan was to recall Guiu then why did we call back Jackson? Bayern don’t even want a loan anymore.

I simply don’t understand how incompetence continues to be rewarded at this football club. 6 year extension these sporting directors got.

6 YEARS.

I'll say what I said in the Guiu thread, I think they panicked. With Jackson set to sign for Bayern, they quickly cancelled it without weighing up their options. They probably thought they could restart negotiations, so they recalled Guiu. Bayern has probably had enough with being messed around with and have now pulled out. Now we have both players back.....😐

I'm baffled by this board.

A few weeks ago I thought we are a few tweaks from being a top side but the last few weeks have just reminded me any recent success is down to the players performing at the right moments rather than any club stratergy.

  • Still no top goalkkeper

  • No commanding centre back

  • No attacking midfielder to challenge Enzo - instead raiding Brighton again

  • And let's not talk about the striker situation in the last couple of days

There is a perception of us just stockpiling players and hoping some are successful by law of averages, and TBF you can understand why people think that.

I suggest taking a photo of the Premier League table during the International Break because I have a feeling that this is as good as it gets.

Phenomenal competence.

I think that Jackson and Guiu are more than capable of doing a job, so when they go on to do well this season, let's not pretend this was all a master strategy by Tweedledum and Tweedledee. Instead, the mistake was freezing them out in the first place and telegraphing to the world we needed them gone.

Well I’d rather we had two players who are at least nominally strikers rather than see Tyrique George or Neto playing as centre forward again.

Although I reckon once Palmer is back from injury we’ll go with Pedro upfront in key games.

Given Bayern are unwilling to sign permanently, perhaps there is more they found out about lack of future intent. We hold the cards, and pulled him back.

Chelsea rarely comments on things nowadays, and we tend to assume the worst. Maybe a surprise twist tomorrow, although I’m likely being overly optimistic with my blue tinted glasses on.

I mean, in short notice, they have recruited a replacement for the injured Delap in the form of an "80mill pound valued" striker who was highly sort after by German giants Bayern munich, stealing him away from them when he was on the brink of signing for them.

Should be song worthy no?

Bayern munich they bought his flight

But then Winstanley saw the light

He called Stewart away from his girl called midge

And he booked nico a flight back to Stamford Bridge

He hates nonotnowJim, he hates nonotnowJim...

I'm not so sure. I think Maresca really likes this system of having two strikers on the pitch. I can see Palmer finally moving out to the right again and interchanging with Pedro.

I hope so. I think it's also the best option in terms of minutes rotation, as the key attackers don't have to do 90 minutes every game. Estevao can relieve either Palmer or Pedro so only one of them needs to do a full 90.

OFFTOPIC RANT: Liverpool finally pulled off the Isak deal for £130M and broke the English transfer record, unreal. They keep trolling us about “spending a billion,” but they’ve just splashed €500M this summer alone. Of course for them the excuse “we also sold players” is valid, while Chelsea apparently can’t use that line… :)

And then there’s the Jackson saga, classic Chelsea soap opera. If we really had an offer of €15M + option to buy (and apparently Bayern were even open to an obligation), I’d have taken that in a heartbeat. I also read we contacted Sunderland and are even thinking about recalling Guiu from loan. Total chaos again, no logic at this club.

And let’s not forget Jackson actually wanted to stay and fight for his place – the club were the ones constantly pushing him out. No wonder he’s pissed off. After the international break, coming back to the Bridge is gonna be super toxic. Honestly I don’t see Jackson taking it like a man, keeping his head up and fighting like Chalobah is doing right now. Maybe he surprises us though (doubt).

I remember the PSG and Hakim Ziyech fiasco. Apparently we were told never to darken their doorstep again.

This has to be the weirdest saga in a while. Not the biggest Jacko fan but it feels cruel. Not sure what happened behind closed doors but us calling back both him and Guiu doesn't seem right.

Somehow I feel the whole loan deal that was reported wasn't as straightforward and simple as it seemed. If we had the deal done why would we call the deal off and recall Guiu as well. Makes no snese at all. That is why I don't think this is that simple.

Clubs yes.

Players too ...

The sporting directors have had a lot of kudos this window. But every time I heard Maresca talk about only needing two strikers, I was bemused.

This is down to more not joined up squad building. Remember we were not even intending to sign a striker. If Delap had got injured tomorrow instead of Saturday, where would we be?

Our sporting directors are really quite embarrassing in how they stomp around world football tarnishing the brand. That’s probably fine if they are delivering great outcomes. But are they? I guess they would say “world champions mate”. That’s fair enough but it feels like another season with a squad of imbalanced quality and another clown show of a last 72 hours of the window.

This might be something they waited for. Heard Isak is going to Pool and stopped the deal..not sure.

That was my first thought. Would explain why they recalled both Guiu and Jackson and not just one of the two. Just recalling both would be a baffling overreaction to Delap's hamstring strain, but I accept this is also still a possibility.

We want some of the Isak largesse. No wonder we have dropped our price from £80m to €65m overnight.

Integrating Jacko to the side makes no sense and could be harmful. Calling both back just makes no sense at all. There has to be an idea behind it.
