How many games change what we've seen? Barcelona, Arsenal, Liverpool, PSG... All are great games against "top" sides where we came out on top or near enough...

Starting to sound like a broken record.

So 4 matches out of 84 managed? Your opinion is based off less than 5% of the games he's managed?

How about Sunderland, Utd, Brighton, even Lincoln and Qarabag were painful to watch and that's only this season. The entirety of last season from December-April.

Open your ears and listen to the symphony being played to you.

You said he's notoriously not good at learning from his mistakes. This game, he learned from his mistakes at Utd and Brighton and managed to get a point against league leaders when we were down to 10 men early on. That is clear progress in my eyes.

I picked the games we have won against top opposition, rather than every game we've won. In our last 12 games, we have won 9, drawn 2 and lost 1. By contrast, we had only won 3 games from 8 before that (losing 3 and drawing 2).

From a 37.5% win percentage earlier in the season to a 75% win percentage since then. That's clear improvement and suggests he learns from his mistakes and the team is improving. My opinion is based off of our results this season and the direction we're heading. The next few games will be a big test, mind. All well and good getting through this tricky week, now we need to get results from Leeds, Bournemouth and Everton.

I refer back to my original post: "one game doesn’t change what we’ve seen over the last year and a half."

We've been fine grinding out performances against the big teams for a while (not necessarily points), still a lot of question marks over the rest of his management and recency bias doesn't change that.

I have given Maresca a bit of stick but not panicking after a red card, allowing Sanchez to kick long and cutting down on us taking short corners is making a difference. There's hope for him if he is more adaptable. When we left 3 men up the pitch when Arsenal had a corner and they wasn't quite sure how to deal with it was funny. We just need to train someone to take long throws lol. I'm all for mixing up tactics and being adaptable when trying to win football matches.

I don’t get the Garnacho substitution. Surely it would have been better to use Gittens, who has crazy pace which can be used to exploit Arsenal’s high line when they’re pushing for a goal. Garnacho doesn’t really offer anything.

Overall, I do prefer Gittens to Garnacho. But Gittens can be rather light-weight and too easy to knock off the ball so I don't think yesterday would have suited him at all.

Although hooking Estevao as early as he did, I think Mareca did well and still deserves credit for getting a result with 10 men yesterday. If Arsenal had come back and won 3-1, we would all be super critical for him making the wrong choices, but have to be happy considering how things went yesterday.

Yeah I loved that corner tactic. Making Rice their deepest player was great, and it also clears space in the box for Sanchez to claim the ball.

Points taken in December:

24/25: 13 from a possible 21

23/24: 12 from a possible 21

22/23: 3 from a possible 3 (World Cup)

21/22: 12 from a possible 21

20/21: 7 from a possible 18

19/20: 9 from a possible 18

56pts from a possible 102pts.

Enzo Maresca’s biggest hurdle yet?

Basically, we're sh*t in December.

I can see both sides regarding Maresca.

I get why many aren’t convinced because I’m not either.

At the moment we would probably be classed by others as the team you don’t want drawn against in the cups. The next two months are massive for Maresca. If we fall away again like last season then questions will rightly be asked. I’m reasonably confident that won’t happen. I’m seeing a big step forward in how we play and from key players. There’s a bit of arrogance about us which is great to see. I still think we are 3 players short of seriously challenging for the title but top 4 is the absolute minimum and going deep into the cups.

The squad is definitely developing and Maresca should be given credit for that but more importantly, the squad seem fully invested in the way he wants to play.

The run of games we have from now till end of Jan scares the sh*t out of me. Leeds is the easiest on paper out of the 11 PL games.

So is now Maresca back being a genius?

All Maresca need to do is to have Fofana back 😂😂😂

The word "back" would insinuate he was ever a genius in the first place.

You’d hope this is where the SD’s and Maresca’s philosophy on rotation comes into play.

But the likes of Hato, Tosin, Gittens, Garnacho must step up now. I am sure Andrey and Acheampong will, they did it everytime they played this season. Others have had a 50/50 season so far. To be fair it is not the attacking players I am worried about, it's the defence as Reece and Cucurella can't play every three days and Fofana will surely have his minutes managed at least for the next couple of months even though he looks fit again. Hopefully Badiashile stays fits, looked class everytime he was on the pitch this season.

How many times this season are we going to see this exact game? Playing against someone we should be favourites against, makes far too many changes usually including 2 new CBs who rarely play together, have a woeful first half, then 3 changes at HT to "correct" his mistakes, then we just lose anyway.

Like I said, notoriously good at not learning from his mistakes.
