It really isn’t an impossible job at all, it’s upto the manager to identify the core and build around it. Maresca has chosen his ‘spine’ to be Enzo, Gusto & Cucu. That’s 100% on him. The fact he then over rotates every game not allowing any familiarity or synergy within the team just compounds the fact.

He’s limited tactically and emotionally, thinks he’s a lot smarter than he is and overcompensates and overcomplicates the smallest details.

James constantly in midfield. The odd bog game then fine, but he is by far our best full back, and one of the best attcking outlets in the team. Even the goal came from James in a wide position.

I don't think it's impossible. He's trying to give minutes to everybody when it's just not possible and is doing daft sh*t like playing Gusto and James in midfield, playing Enzo in every game, having the team play at a snails pace, constantly f**king around with the back 4, never supporting the wingers or any attacker. I don't know what these young players are supposed to be learning under Maresca, but it can't be anything good.

Positional discipline and having intent to attack is something seriously lacking in Maresca's coaching. He always has the players playing with fear. Don't lose the ball, which ironically ends up with them losing the ball anyway because they have it on their mind constantly. When you watch us, you can see how jittery we are on the ball going forward. A few loose passes, underhitting or overhitting passes, poor decision making. The only time they look comfortable is when they turn around and pass it back to the defence. This is because they are badly coached.

They are never making back the money they have put into this.

I dont know why they wanted to own a football, but it certainly isnt to make money or win trophies.

They absolutely will when they choose to sell the club at the end of their tenure. Probably to Saudi's.

Another thing that pisses me off is him taking players off at half time that are on a yellow card. I know we have had too many red cards this season, but how about you instil some discipline instead of being reactionary and subbing the player off?

Genuinely feels like the season is finished already and we’re barely in December.

He sets us up well against very strong teams but that’s about as far as it goes, we need more than that.

Like everybody already said, I don’t know why he feels the need to change the back line every single f*cking game.

The cost was around £4B which included a £1B guarentee to put into the playing squad which have done, and then some.

They cant sell for 10 years or take dividends.

The way things are heading, there is no way the club will be worth more than they paid in 6 years time. Also if by some miracle they do happen to make any money, its a comsortium so the profit will be split pretth thinly between already billionaires. Not really worth it for a 10 year project.

I found a Forbes link on Wikipedia earlier that valued the club (May 2025) at $3.25 billion, so they've lost about 40% of their investment already if you take that as gospel LOL.

I agree. But I think we might do better with either some experienced players who are leaders, or an experienced manager. At the moment we effectively have neither. Glasner from Palace would be decent choice with this young group of players

No one asked him why he brought on defenders when we needed a goal.

Luckily I'm away at the weekend so I won't be able to watch our game, I'm glad for the break, barring a few games I've watched us play this season I've felt either depressed or underwhelmed after.

But that is exactly it. We are one decent manager OR one or two experienced players away from being genuine title contenders in my opinion.

Trouble is the board will never go for either.

The way he was glazing Italy, the food, and Atalanta in the pre-match press conference, I wouldn't be surprised if he was giving them a helping hand tonight by gifting them a win. Honestly, I have liked him as a coach, but he's starting to piss me off with the lack of tactical nous against the "lesser" teams who we should be beating. Yes it's great getting up for the bigger matches, but what about the Sunderland at home, Brighton at home, Leeds away, Bournemouth away, etc?

Also, the subs were sh*te tonight and also Hato, he's sat on the bench for weeks now, and all while Cucurella is playing week in, week out. How about play him once in a while in games like this? Make some positive changes too, not just swap Gusto for Neto ffs. What does that solve when you need to win? It was turgid football tonight as well, utterly uninspiring dogsh*t. He is to blame a lot for tonight's result.

I'm defeated by Maresca TBH.

6 defenders on the pitch for this vital Champions League match, a match we needed to win.

CB's at right back, right backs in central midfield and Gusto playing as a number 10.

I honestly haven't watched this kind of random tactics and random player selection since watching my kids play Under 7's.

I've never wanted a Chelsea manager sacked as much as him, and yes that is taking Benitez into consideration.
