Leicester were abysmal and it shouldn't have been anywhere near as close as that. It just shows that no matter the opposition, or how much we dominate, we can never fully control a game of football. We are consistently a mixed bag throughout the 90 minutes and some of Maresca's tactics are a big reason for this.

Of course.

With the make up of our squad inconsistency will be there for a while yet. Most of these guys are under 23.

i think a lot of our fans forget that

Won which is all that matters really. Performance was decent without being entirely convincing. If we can get 5/6 points from the next 3 games we will be in a great position with the games coming afterwards.

Yeah another use of VAR where they don't do their job properly.

Nididi is a red all day long, simply because of where he is looking. If that tackle happens and he is trying to play the ball it is 50/50 for me.

Looks where the ball is and look where he is looking, right at Coles Achilles and nowhere near the ball. Blatant.

An odd game in terms of performances.

Most of those that have been getting slated, did ok - Felix put himself about and looked good on the ball. Baddy I thought was our best defender not named Cucurella. Enzo with a big performance and winning goal, and Jackson did something worthy of praise for once.

More problematic is our mentality. I remain really worried. No killer instinct. always trying to score a perfect goal. And always leaving the door open for a potential comeback...

Overall we were ok, the biggest complaint for me was we were so wasteful, and madueke again went missing.

We seem to have a decent (ish) run of 10games until we play man city. So we need to keep going and picking up as much points as possible.

Their coach complaining about the penalties is just funny. The first one is a dive and the second one he trip himself before our defender touched him, they were lucky to get one called. In the meantime, we have a goal called off just and two red cards not given to them. Refereeing is bad but some of these coaches complains are just embarrassing.

Won in spite of Maresca?

Our attack really should have delivered more goals. No real complaints with the defense for a change but the forward line has fallen off a cliff recently.

2 world class strikes from Caicedo and Neto followed by this is not at the standard we need.

In spite of Maresca? He’s the coach and set up the team, and then you go and say that our attack should have delivered mor goals. We won with Maresca’s set up the team and the front players not being too clinical, so not really in spite of Maresca, is it?

Ref was dreadful for not punishing their players for two reckless fouls. Saying that, we dominated without being convincing. Palmer was fairly quiet again. Madueke missed a good chance from a great Jackson cross and was pretty wasteful considering most of our attacks went through him.

We still managed to make it tight despite being 2 up with ten minutes to play. Sanchez looks like his confidence has gone. Defence managed to restrict them to a couple of shots. Pleased Enzo scored a crucial goal and he was probably MOM.

Thought we were alright overall but turns out that’s all we needed to be to squeak a win over a poor Leicester side.

Palmer is targeted by clubs like Hazard was, officiating gave him little protection, dominated them for long stretches with little profit apart from the solitary goal brilliantly taken by Wacko. The less said about Nonis leg the better. Enzo saved the day for once, Sanchez looks dodgy playing out and shame about clean sheet. I predicted the score so 😊. Only1 point behind city who are having a real stinker tonight !

It was a two part post mate.

One was in response to what Scott said about Maresca, so I was asking him that question.

The rest was my views on how the front line has been fairing of late after a decent start to the season.

This post is to address some of the comments posted...

Fk, I completely forgot about fpl this week. Luckily I have Jackson too in at least one of my 2 teams.

His goals are always meaningless - scores the opener

He's not creative - link up play been great, should have had a few assists.

My guess is the excuse will be 'its only Leicester'. Which begs the question why no one else has scored for us yet.

Pls don't wind him up, you're getting just as bad. Lol

He could have moved the other direction. He must have known Palmer was running onto it.

Reminds me of lampards interview about the game in 2012. He felt the big man (drogba) behind him and got scared and ducked down to let drogba head the ball and score. Can't recall the exact words but I recall it was funny.

What the f**k, is Mavididi taping his shinpad to his leg? Do they not have the velcro straps any more?

Not those flimsy small pads that pros use.

What scares me is that I don't think he is capable of coaching a defense. There's a lot of over-reliance on us just outscoring the opposition and even that doesn't seem to be going as well as he might have planned.

Defence and the gk situation is a bit of a mystery!

We have set piece, gk and defensive coaches right? I think maresca might be guilty of focusing too much on attack and now midfield and leaving defence scarily late but I can only imagine its the process he's picked. It makes sense to organise midfield next after the attack to keep the training, understanding, tactics and philosophy "flowing" in the right direction. But like I said after the last game, Maresca needs to start working/focusing on the set piece and defensive coaches very soon. The basics is done, now he needs to step in.

That Jackson goal was brilliant.

The tenacity, drive, strength, speed then finishing it off with skill and absolute quality! The kid is 23 and his learning curve is extremely hard to criticise on his second season with us. I said it before, he will still fk up and annoy us but he's learning a trade on his own. No mentor, no senior #9 around him to advise, guide and educate him. Being "self-taught" like that I do expect mistakes to still happen but he's definitely on the right track and deserves a fk load of credit.*

*Enzo jnr and a few others played really well too, maybe their best games for chels.

In rgds to the game, i really liked that game!
I want to watch it again in full once it's available, with a pen and pad next to me. Soo many good points to look at and some bad (yes, sanchez will be on the bad list, lol) but also a lot of good very subtle changes and ways of play. I really enjoyed that from a technical and tactical pov.
But until it is available in full and i can watch it in peace (fkn delivery), just 3 points I want to post about.

1) it should have been 8-9 vs 11 by the 38min mark. Most know me as an easy going bloke, mellow. I've seen and done way too much to get rattled or disturbingly angry!
But 1 of those tackles was disgusting (palmer) and along with the one on felix, both should have been a nailed on red. No discussions or debates needed.
The third I will accept that a very small minority might want to discuss it but would quickly lose to the majority and facts/rules/whatever.

I ask this...if the ref did his job and was just mildly competent then what would have been the score at half time? What would have been the score after 90mins, with the kids playing like that, and a semi competent ref and var? 5,6,7 maybe 8 nil to Chelsea. There was a lot of great points to pick up on in those 90-95mins.

2) To anyone that says Maresca's tactics or style is rigid and unchanging...I believe there's a deal on at specsavers, saw the TV advert not long ago. Get yourself checked. Lol
At times palmer was an 8 and at times we played with 2x 10s, cucu as overlapping fb on one side and noni as a touchline hugger on the other. Wait! Is that 2 different tactics in the same period of play!!
Like I said above, it's definitely a game to watch to see how tactics can be dynamic and free flowing.
4 months. Maresca has done that in 4 months -ish and like the kids he's still new in his field too. I am leaning greatly towards him being a long term manager. Developing his ideas and tactics with a young grp of players that can soak it all up like sponge to water. He, like his squad, is not the finished article yet.

3) oh the noni/palmer kerfuffle, lmao. Just very unlucky but one massive thing to take from that, even bigger than a goal, is how they reacted. Both smiled/laughed.
Imagine if noni did that to someone else. Someone mentioned Ronaldo in the BBC comments thread, lol.
But the main takeaway from this point is that I like what I've seen, so far, about the grps relationship and dynamics with one another.

Really it was a nice present to be given Leicester after an international break, especially with the TV companies moving it to 1230.

They are cr@p, were cr@p and will remain cr@p.

Aside from kicking lumps out of our players it was an easy day out for us. Should have scored at least 4.

Felt pretty relaxed watching that as Leicester didn't provide much of a threat for us.

Ndidi should have been red carded for his bad challenge on Palmer.

Really pleased with Jackson's progress. He's gone from being mocked for being unable to convert easy shots, to now becoming a very reliable striker. Still more work to be done, but his development has been good.

I disagree. The lack of a red card was for sure bad, but if the refs were truly against us, they would have given Leicester that first penalty shout. We also got lucky a few weeks ago when Fofana grabbed a players hand and it wasn't given. Face facts, we are the problem, we are giving these refs a decision to make because our players are ill disciplined, lack composure and just make stupid mistakes.

and Sanchez always gives the opposition a chance or two each match.

I was actually worried Leicester would've sacked Cooper over the international break.

Really? They have no reason too. They are above the relegation zone and he has picked up some good results. I would say they have done better than people expected so far.

I have a couple Leicester mates who are already fed up. Recent results don't back up the performance.

THANK f**kING CHRIST 😅😂

Been away  this weekend and far too lazy to read through all the comments.

For me it should have been a red card, the Fofana foul should have been a penalty but the one they got shouldn't have been as he tripped himself up.

All in all a fully deserved win. Obviously would have been nice if it had been more comfortable but we've actually got a decent scoring record this season so not getting knickers on a twist over the fact we didn't bury Leicester.

Jackson and Enzo played really well and Badiashille much improved.  I thought Felix put in a power of work off the ball but does need to start delivering more when he has the ball.

Absolutely agree. You can tell when it's intentional and when it's clumsy. That one was obviously intentional and should have been a clear red card.

Wow. Talk about coincidence. Annoyingly, when you mentioned this, the odds were 15.00 for him to be sacked and I contemplated it but didn't place a bet. Huge regret now ffs 😄

I find it harsh. Will be interesting to see who they have in mind to replace him and how the replacement does as I don't think there current squad is bad but also not strong enough to stay up too. Time will tell.

Agreed. Maybe a couple of loanees in January. There is worse about. Can easily see Lampard going in there especially after his previous midlands stint.
