I get what you’re saying, we’ve seen it happen with strikers and midfielders a lot. I don’t recall a defender burning out though?

January 8, 20251 yr Played mostly at RB as Cobham were over-stocked with decent CBs (Colwill, Humphreys, Gilchrist etc.) around his age group. Pretty common to have players start as wide defenders but play professionally in the centre as managers prefer their best 1v1 defenders in the centre.

January 11, 20251 yr Looks like Maresca has as good as confirmed Josh will be starting on Tuesday with his selections and subs today. Hopefully Lavia will be able to do an hour so we can play the same system we used vs Villa.

Fofana won’t play much so he’s pretty much 1st choice CB now until Fofana is back.
January 30, 20251 yr Rumour started by Miguel Delany, We are looking to do a Maatsen/Kellyman with Acheampong/Garnacho....
January 30, 20251 yr What the actual f**k? So Josh makes one mistake and is instantly subbed off, never gets played again and potentially sold to a rival, while Sanchez can stink up the place for months and remain a nailed on starter?

Well it is a rumour, will see if it holds any truth but Sanchez cost 25mill and we would make a loss if anyone would take him Acheampong, like Garnacho, and Maatsen and Kellyman, is all pure profit.
January 31, 20251 yr Well you would think they are not crazy enough to do the deal. Issue is though we currently have 8 first team CBs; Colwill, Chalobah, Tosin, Disasi, Fofana, Badiashille, Josh & Anselminho. They need to get rid of all couple before the deadline.
January 31, 20251 yr Yep - agree with @ducavis. It's a numbers game. Colwill, Chalobah, Tosin, and Achempong are all pure profit defenders we have on the books as assets to strip out of the club. Colwill, Tosin and Tosin are all more experienced, and therefore more of a known quantity, and therefore less risk. Josh could become the best player in the world - but its unlikely, so why bet the house on Achempong and lose - when the odds can be managed/reduced.
January 31, 20251 yr I highly doubt the club is stupid enough to sell Achempong, unless its a ridiculous offer. Nothing rumour.

January 31, 20251 yr A Garnacho/Acheampong swap would have made sense a couple of years ago when the board was spending like mad trying to build a very young squad, taking advantage of all the PSR and FFP loopholes. But given our current situation and I mean the urgent need for some world class players, too, not only youngesters with a projected bright future, selling Acheampong, Chalobah and Tosin for pure profit only makes sense if we are to bring in marquee signings.
January 31, 20251 yr If there is any truth to this kind of swap, then the club is really losing its soul/direction with these decisions.
January 31, 20251 yr Basically running out of "pure profit" options very rapidly ... Assuming Harvey Vale is 99% done (and for no up front fee by the sound of it), then James, Colwill, Chalobah, Acheampong, George, Gilchrist and Humphreys are the only players left on the table now. We could also add Tosin to that, as we got him on a free transfer. I wonder how many of these will be left in two years time ?

April 11, 20251 yr Maresca has said he is "in love" with Josh for how good he is and how well he plays many positions. So how about playing him more then eh?
