As for signings I can't see any decent players moving in this window, you know, players that will actually strengthen us. It could of been very different it it wasn't for a VAR intervention, A dodgy pen by Willian, and a goal by Callum, that i don't know how Tammy failed to touch, which would of resulted in him being offside, i just think we look a bit stale, chopping and changing midfield etc (injuries permitting), There are plenty who could strengthen us, just need to splash the Summer cash

Club give nothing away anymore, found that out in previous windows. Suspect it'll just come out of nowhere whoever we sign
January 14, 20206 yr Think we are being cautious, not wanting another Drinkwater again. With Lampard in charge and so keen to promote the kids, we are looking at the "star" players, who are difficult to buy mid season. We may panic on the final day and buy a Dunk or Zaha, you never know

Seems like we are biding our time and waiting for the right opportunity to come up, which makes a lot of sense. There's two ways of looking at it. 1. We're not doing anything substantive, and we'll make a panic buy at the end of the window; or 2. We're in no rush to buy and will only make a purchase if it's a clear upgrade on what we have and improves the team almost immediately. I hope it's #2.

January 14, 20206 yr I did worry this might happen, I think Frank has so much faith in our young players he might not sign someone established who would go straight into the team and unsettle them. Hope I'm wrong as we need a few more options.
January 14, 20206 yr LBH the only position that really needs strengthening in this window is for another goal scoring striker to partner Tammy, January can be a punt - Anelka worked out great , Torres not so. Plus nearly every club in the prem league is desperate for the same position to be filled - Villa cus they're in peril, Spuds cus they're mid table, other clubs etc. etc. So unless the club have a trump card up their sleeve I don't expect (m)any signings this month, the club just needed a 274 mill cash injection from Roman despite selling Eddy and not buying in the summer; so maybe the club's saving its dosh for the summer window, which I feel is a prudent strategy. January 14, 20206 yr I feel like man Utd signing Fernandes will help seal their top four hopes. We need to make one or two very good signings this window otherwise we be found wanting when it comes to top four hopes.

We don't need to panic buy, which I feel like some of you want.
January 14, 20206 yr Is it a panic buy when we've had well over a season to scout and choose the right player(s)? Timo Werner is an obvious one who'd fit right in.
January 14, 20206 yr It's almost like a small disappointment the fact that the club went into this transfer window without any ideas. Maybe we are looking to sign Chilwell, Sancho and Werner in the summer though.

Perhaps there are negotiotations going on, perhaps the identified targets aren't available in January, perhaps it's a conscious choice not to sign anybody: we just don't know what's going on. Perhaps something is going on, but judging from how Lampard has been going about in the press either he isn't as involved in it or the club is most likely not going to do much this window and leave most of the things that need to be done for the summer, like I said. As time passes by it looks like it's a conscious choice to stick with what we have now and look to really improve with Chilwell, Sancho in the summer and since things are going well so far maybe it's not a really big risk to continue without any signing in January. The thing is, I don't see why we would need to wait so much for a new player if the club already knew who to sign for this period, Liverpool's deal for their new player was practically done before the window opened and they didn't lose a single game in the league so far which would suggest that they would have less urgency than us. Though I'm aware that the club does things sometimes in the last moment, some of our previous January signings got here in the last days of January e.g. Giroud, Emerson. So you're right it's not a fact that the club has no ideas for this transfer window, it's just my speculation. To me it still looks a bit sloppy in case the club actually had a plan all along, it doesn't need to be set in stone that we must sign a player in the last days of January.

Maybe, just maybe Sancho will still come, but no guarantees. Consistent CL football is a massive attraction for moving to a club.

By all accounts Utd are buying him to replace Lingard. Fernandes is going to be a definite upgrade on Lingard. It adds to their goal threat options.
January 15, 20206 yr There is zero proof the club want Werner, Sancho and Chilwell though. That's the thing. I mean Sancho i think we will go in for - but this idea that we are waiting until the summer to sign them is going to leave people disappointed im afraid. Madrid or Bayern will likely nab Werner if we are being honest. Chilwell im not even sure we really want. And Sancho is only coming here if we get CL, and even then its not for sure I just think some people need to remember those 3 are not nailed on in the summer, they are not definitely coming. It wont be only us trying to buy them. So in that case, yes, we do need one or 2 this window to improve our top 4 chances. Will we? Probably not as we dither too much, but who knows. I did think all our business would be wrapped up early, as Frank knew what he wanted. Probably negotiations going on but... And the lack of rumours means nothing, our club is watertight lately. Yes it's true, so far we are in the CL but the more I think about it the more I'm sure that it's a considerable enough of a gamble to not sign anyone during this transfer window. We do need to finish 4th at least not because we all expected that at the start of the season but because we are in this position in which we obviously can finish in the top 4. Even if we miss out on Werner there will be other options which is fine I mean nothing goes really 100% according to plan but the club has no reason to back down when it comes to Sancho because both Willian and Pedro have their contracts expiring in the summer. In previous years he has had Lampardesque numbers for Sporting. I think he'll improve them but we shouldn't be too worried. I'm quite happy if we choose not to sign anyone this window. Would muuuuuch prefer that to panic buying rubbish squad players as we have in the past. It's a hard time for players to come in and adapt. I for one would happily do away with the January transfer window entirely. Sign players outside the season and then stick with the squad you have.

January 15, 20206 yr I like transfers and i think we should be signing someone just about every window including this one. However nothing seems that likely at this stage.
January 15, 20206 yr I've read that the Mail are suggesting Leicester are considering Luke Shaw as a replacement for Chilwell. The press are linking us as a possibility. It would make sense though maybe other clubs are enquiring about him too.
January 15, 20206 yr A lot of the earlier rumours have dampened down now. Sancho - sounds like we’ve scared off the price tag. Chilwell - not moving soon Werner - not happening As frustrating as it is, we all want the right signings rather than any old signings.
