Not like you to go searching out and posting something negative about the club, Ernie! I'm surprised.
May 15, 20188 yr Hopefully we get our act together this transfer window. Has Hazard laid his cards on the table ?. https://www.theguardian.com/football/2018/may/15/eden-hazard-chelsea-signings-new-contract Edited May 15, 20188 yr by Osgood is Good
May 15, 20188 yr Good. Hopefully it gives the board a kick up the arse. Match his ambitions or he is off, can't expect a talent like that to stay when you bring in tripe like Drinkwater and Bakayoko

May 15, 20188 yr Asked to elaborate on the factors that would influence his decision, he added: “I’m waiting for new players next season. I want good players, because I want to win the Premier League next season. “Like I’ve said many times before, I think the FA Cup final is not my last game for Chelsea. It’s the last game of the season, that’s it. After the World Cup then we will be ready for the next season. But, for me in my mind, I’m here. I have one week to play now. Saturday is a massive game, I just want to win, for me and them also.” Doesn't sound like he'll force his way out but without signings he'll probably let his contract expire. Also mentions we dropped to many points at SB and we played a fantastic game against Liverpool. (Fantastic?) It doesn't seem like he's done with Conte. Rather, it seems they both know top class players are needed. No reason we can't do both but if the club sign top players it will be at the expense of our young players. Top 4 is realistic for next season but it will be tough especially since the current top 4 will only strengthen, well maybe not Spurs I'm surprised this topic isn't on fire right now Edited May 15, 20188 yr by TheChelseaBlues
May 16, 20188 yr i don't think it's realistic for a title challenge next season tbh. maybe if we had made top four, but being out of the top four will make it difficult to recruit players. it hinges on our managerial situation too. we can't continue setting up and playing the way we have and expecting to challenge.

If the squad, the manager and indeed attitude is the same then I would agree with you but as seems pretty obvious change is coming. It would be madness to do anything prior to the FA cup final so I guess we should be keeping an open mind but hopefully once the weekend comes and goes I would hope things move pretty quickly. It seems the transfer window is to open on Thursday but there are added complications in that other rules in the FA handbook that work hand in hand with the window opening later can’t be changed this year so certain approaches aren’t sanctioned. That said I would expect most clubs will go early and that will include us

That said I would expect most clubs will go early and that will include us the thing is, i do think we could sign decent players still, but the way hazard is talking and how people are reacting, it's almost as if they expect world class signings which is unlikely to happen. i think mahrez for e.g would be possible. central midfield, god knows, maybe vidal? i am not sure which other signings would be possible. there has been talk of icardi, which i think it pie in the sky as he would cost at least £70-80m Edited May 16, 20188 yr by enigma
May 16, 20188 yr At present, City are very attractive to go to and have a bigger budget. what player wouldnt want to be part of that side right now? Utd are massive and have a bigger budget than us Liverpool appear to be going places and seem to have a similar budget at present Arenal are rebuilding and will no doubt throw money at some players for the new coach And we're in 5th, possibly 5th in the pecking order, too..

I don’t think it matters who we have in the team when it comes to our young players. We’ve seen time and time again that it doesn’t matter how bad the senior players are performing at the time, they won’t be dropped.

May 16, 20188 yr Author I remember Terry publicly calling for the club to sign a David villa or frank ribery level player, while using man city as leverage in his contract negotiations. I think it was 2009 and we ended up with just zhirkov! I'm not sure the club will change it's transfer policy for any one player. I don't see us signing any world class players this summer. Hopefully the players we do bring in, turn into world class players in the next couple of years, and Hazard signs on the dotted line.
May 16, 20188 yr Lovely to hear he's happy at the club, and I don't blame him for wanting the club to be ambitious. He's 27 so it matters to his career. It's quite amazing that we managed to sign not just a world class youngster like him, but one that wasn't just looking to bugger off to Spain at the first opportunity. Love this guy.

When RA first shipped up the view was that he could buy all the players and that applies to City. Are they really going to go big again next season? Utd have to go again but I am far from convinced the players that JM will be wanting will all be on our shopping list Liverpool have done well, of that there is no doubt and yes of course they still have the CL but despite our awful season we could and probably should have finished above them and yes I know we didn’t but the reality is our season was more about a half or dozen games we should have done better in as opposed to games we did better than expected Arsenal have fa4 more problems than us. They haven’t got the money that would fund a massive spending spree add that to the fact that they don’t have a reservoir of surplus squad or loan players that they can sell of to add significantly to any transfer fund. As for us there is no doubt we have players that are surplus or who will be sold to generate funds.Players like Rahman, Piazon, Kalas, even possibly Zouma, Kennedy and Batshuayi will be sold if needed. Its time to bite the bullet in terms of accepting that me of the mainstays of the last few years are fast approaching the end of their careers at the top level and must surely now be moved on. In that number I include Cesc and Gary C. Not only should our loan army be used to free up funds but it’s time that we used them to bulk up the squad and use them in the early stages of the EL.
May 16, 20188 yr I just want to see a peak Hazard playing under an attack minded manager with complete freedom and the attack built around him

Cut out the deadwood in the middle but I don't think the club will do that. We agree there's a way to do it but I don't think it will be done that way. We'll sign players this summer, offload only a few and our young players won't get much more of a chance than they get now. Absolutely we should be getting rid of those middle players. Moses, Pedro, Cahill (he's a 'leader' yet we seemed to fold an awful lot when he is playing) can all be replaced at the top while clearing space to be filled by young players. What are the odds of this happening though?

I think we are one of the few clubs that are complacent just after winning "Ah sure we have enough, they can do it again without any changes" City and others will have looked at our two failings post winning the league, and know that you have to keep the team fresh and hungry with one or two signings each season. I know if I was a rival coach or board member, I would be stressing this point a lot and would be saying "look at chelsea!"
May 16, 20188 yr I'm not against Hazard being a future Captain if I'm honest, that's if he sticks around.
