Filipe Luis to Chelsea... and Back Again.

Featured Replies

Probably because we had Luis and Azpilicueta at LB.

He wanted to go anyway before we got Luis it was because he wasn't first choice and Jose never seemed to fancy him. He probably knew he was good enough to be a starter somewhere and wanted first team football.

Gifted footballer, never got much of a chance. When he played he was pretty solid I thought. Bit of a shame really. Hope we've someone lined up.

Abdul Baba Rahman lined up....apparently.

Is it too much to ask for us to sign a John Smith or something I can actually pronounce.

Has to be €15m, we bought him for €20m, a £15m resale price would mean we make a profit and that is not likely.

mourinho said he wont leave unless they get their money back for him

its £ not €

Sorry to hear about Luis leaving as I rate him quite highly as an all-round full back. Good offensively and defensively, decent left foot, and put in some sterling performances along the way. I also have very fond memories of that excellent free kick he scored against Derby.

Sadly he suffered from Zhirkov syndrome where through no real fault of his own he wasn't able to dislodge the world class talent in his preferred position. Clearly he will need replacing, but if the links to Rahman are true then we are already well on our way to doing so.

Wish him all the best, he's a very good player. I am also sad that there will no longer be a player at the club with silly hair and a big nose to whom I can relate. Good luck Filipe!

Accounting pedant here...it won't be a loss (in our accounts anyway) if we sell for £1m less than we bought him for.

The original £16m purchase price is written off over the life of his contract, hence I gues £4m or so was expensed last year, meaning his book value will be about £10m-£11m. Anything we get above this will be a profit in our books (boring I know, but does impact our accounts)! Of course in terms of 'cash', we make a loss...

Back to football! Looked a good player, but at his age, and with Dave ahead of him, selling while he still retains some value makes sense.

Liked the bloke, he seemes to have the right attitude and looked professional, but I guess he wants more. Good luck to him and a good piece of business by the club - we basically paid 800k (+wages) to get an experienced squad player for a one-season loan.

We need a replacement and it's a good thing he won't be expected to start straight away, as the league starts in a couple of weeks.

Atletico Madrid expect to confirm the return of Brazil international Filipe Luis from Chelsea on Friday.

Luis left Atletico last summer, but Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho confirmed earlier this week that the left-back was on the verge of a return to Vicente Calderon.

Atletico are reported to have agreed to pay €16 million for the 29-year-old -- €4m less than they received for him last summer -- and the deal is set to be finalised once the Spanish club receive the necessary documentation.

"We are practically in the final process and we hope all will end well and the player can join the group as soon as possible," Atletico president Enrique Cerezo told the Spanish media.

"Negotiations are long and each day it becomes more difficult to sign new players."

Has he actually gone yet? I saw reports that he had gone but then hears that we wanted a higher fee.

General rumour seems to be that personal terms have been agreed but not a fee with Chelsea.

It's only a matter of time I'm sure and the fact that he hasn't even hooked up with the Chelsea squad for pre-season tells me we're pretty confident this will go through, I'd imagine it'll be sorted by the end of the week.
