Ruben Loftus-Cheek

You don't pick out flaws and slag players off to the press, it should be said to them and them only. Massively disrespectful. Knowing the manager has problems with their game is enough to step it up, without everyone else knowing about it.

Jose knows best that's my final word, look what's he's achieved.

Jose did the right thing

Not interested in this "hurt his confidence" rubbish, Jose knows RLC better than any of you ever could. He obviously knows what makes him tick and how to get the best out of him. He's done it in the past with others and he'll do it again.

Not to mention, RLC might be a young player, but he's a bloody adult. You really think some good constructive criticism is going to scar him eternally, send him down a chasm of despair and kill off his career? FFS  :face_palm:

::clap2::

I too think Jose should have talked to RLC in person instead of through the press.

Who's to say Joe Cole and Hazard wouldn't have gone on to achieve the same if José hadn't criticized them through the press?

Also, I absolutely loathe the ''Jose knows best'' argument, it just stops every discussion straight in its tracks doesn't it?

We might as well just remove the reply option and all click on ''I agree with what José did there''.

Everyone is different, different methods get the best/worst out of people when it comes to management. What Jose did was unprofessional. No need for that kind of depth in his criticism. Just because he has won lots doesn't make him right 100% of the time. He was bang out of line for making comments about the supporters when he came back as well.

I agree to an extent that being a end of season friendly, Jose could cut some slack and let this one slide. However this is not the first time Jose criticised a player in public for not putting in the defensive effort. If a player like Hazard coped it, why would Jose let it slide for a 19 year old trying to break into the team. If RLC was injured, he shouldn't have taken part in the match. If he's not, then Jose has every right to set his standard, even it's only a promotional friendly match. Only time will tell whether this public outburst will work or not.

Passionate people speak from the heart, sometimes rightly sometimes wrongly.

Jose gets it right most of the time, does not mean he is always right and above critique.

Bottom line is he is still by far the best manager for us. I learned that the first time around when his few imperfections made me feel relieved when he left us. A break from the drama seemed a nice idea. After all anyone could succeed with Roman's money backing them up right?

Wrong.

Unfortunately, I've been noticing this laziness with loftus cheek recently and it's been a bit frustrating. It hasn't just been one or two games where he's been lackadaisical when getting back to help retrieve the ball neither. I would like to see us bring in a chalobah and baker to see how they cope tbh. I was a big fan of Baker, but unfortunately he never seemed to get the chance that other youth have been given. I also think colkett played well the other day against the thailand side, so in pre-season maybe give him more of a chance too. I remember reading in a comment section recently on loftus cheek and someone who watches him in the youth team said that colkett and baker had made loftus cheek look better than he really is, however, because of his physical size he would be favoured by mourinho. If this is true then I find it unfathomable why José would pick a player over their physical presence rather than their skill set and talent, for e.g. baker or chalobah.

Well guess what.  In the last 15 year Sir Alex Ferguson brought through two players - Ronaldo and Rooney.

And those weren't even united youth. Both bought and put right in the first team, the type of playing youth that doesn't count when Jose does it apparently.

That's because it's clearly not 'bringing players through' is it? Obviously though Mourinho is not the only one at Chelsea who hasn't done it.

Id love for it to happen to RLC I really would. Unfortunately he will have to buck an undeniable trend, both within the club and with Mourinho too.

I maintain that what happened yesterday reeks of nothing to do with 'tough love' etc but simply Mourinho getting his excuses for next season in early.

Let them go on holiday already FFS!!! every one needs that feeling of sitting on the beach thinking, I'm champion (to quote jose) with a big ass smile on their face.

I'm not reading to much in to Jose's comments. Truth is the best managers are able to see beyond the talent of a player and to other important attributes it takes to win titles. If RLC can't handle a bit of public criticism and come out fighting he's not got the attrtibutes Jose is looking for.

Being he has been 100% right over you little trial, think I will rather leave this one in Jose court than yours.

JT's weighed in on this one:

He's a young boy and he needs to take it on the chin. If you want to get into this team you need to be very good and, secondly, you need to be mentally strong. The manager picks his times when he digs people out; that's part of his learning curve and he's got the offseason to think about that now.

He's made a couple of games, come on a couple of times and started a couple of games late in the season, but for him to make that next step and become a regular, it doesn't happen easily. It's going to be hard work for him.

Good strong words from JT.

If RLC want's to make it at a big club like ours then he should listen to the two people who have won it all and done it all in football and at our club (JT).

Use the comments to fire you on to the very top, if not then you aint cut out for the top.

Could be.

I like to think of it more as the guys at the club know this boy can be special and don't want him to piss it all away like so many other promising youths through the years.

However it's anyone's guess really, I just hope he knuckles down and listens to the people who have been there and done it.

I think it's sending a message to RLC and the rest of the youth team.  I am with BJD on this one though, and I think it's early excuses.

I could, however, and possibly rather hopefully, see a few of the Youth team lads make it onto the bench next season (I was hopeful of this when they extended the number of subs we could have, but that never really materialized).

If we are to compete on all levels next season, then we need a slightly larger squad, and I'd like to see that larger number filled with promising youth prospects and not more Fillipe Luis type players

I think it was good to see from Jose taking even a post season friendly seriously showing he takes no laziness from the players no matter how important or not the game shows what passion he has for football.

JT's weighed in on this one:

I mentioned this earlier in the thread, in JT we have a Captain who is known to show interest in the youth players and his influence can help guide RLC on the right path. Tough love now can help Reuban achieve his potential.

I may be putting 2 and 3 together here and coming up with 5, but what if Jose is deliberately trying to keep him grounded, maybe showing him the power of media?

You see folk like Walcott, Sterling, Wilshire, etc.  All very talented young playesr, but i think they're all somewhat responsible for having an inflated ego, making the national team and doing bugger all, in and out of the papers, etc.

Maybe, and I know this might be a bit of a stretch, Jose is using the media to show Rubes that being in the news has its negative consequences too.  So work hard, play hard, and you'll make it.
