Patrick Bamford - Back at Chelsea?

Featured Replies

Yeh Bamford can't do any worse than Remy.

We should definitely start playing our youth players, because they have the right attitude, skill and tons of enthusiasm. Although they lack experience and a sulky attitude like Remy !

Patrick Bamford back at Chelsea.......aaaand he's gone again.

In all seriousness I think it's a good move for the lad, hopefully he gets some game time in the prem and comes back next season and stays as part of our squad.

Agree. Although if he does very well, I can see him going permanent too tbh.   I just hope I dont have to see the @chelseayouth  twitter moaning on my timeline.  Cannot f**king stand him

While I have some sympathy for him, you can't say he deserves a shot at chelsea when he's not been able to get into a palace side ahead of someone as sh*t as Connor Wickham...bet he goes back to boro on loan

Well turned out to be Norwich rather boro but as suspected, chelsea don't rate this guy...they would rather bring in a washed up Brazilian than give him a chance...chelsea are just looking to make a big profit on this guy, pure and simple

it does make you wonder if some of us (myself included) have overrated bamford. i am the first to admit i rarely watched him while he was on loan, and all we see is his goal contributions so maybe that's skewed our vision. i do think he's a good player, so will be interesting to see how he does for norwich. i do hope he does well though.

you do realize that Bamford was awarded The Championship Player of the Year last season?

IMO crystal palace did not give Patrick a proper chance and the people who advised Patrick to go to Palace made a big mistake. IMO he should have gone to a championship team and played every week like he did at the Boro.

But what do I know, I've only been watching football since 1962 ! LoL

Do Norwich play with one or two strikers? If they prefer 442 then Bamford could have a good chance as he will be competing with Naismith, Jerome and Mbokani, and Mbokani is also on loan. If they play with one striker only then this wasn't a smart loan considering they just signed Naismith.

Looks like they play one striker

Sadly this season has been a complete waste of time for Patrick.

He needs to make the right choices for next season, which may involve Patrick kick-starting his career by taking a pay cut to facilitate regular playing time in a championship league club.

If we'd skipped the whole Falcao nonsense and brought in Bamford as third choice striker, he might have had more playing time here than he did at Palace.

God knows what his confidence must be like right now. What a wasted year for the lad.

Really dont rate Bamford at all, dont think he has what it takes to make it in the premiership. Not too fussed about this

If only Norwich had been chosen back in August - think he will get chances there.

Up to now he has done well wherever he has been - our academy, MK Dons, Derby and Borough. He may not be Chelsea level (whatever that is this season) but he deserved a chance rather than us persevering with a dead-loss like Falcao.  Palace was a bad choice (we've been there before), let's hope Norwich turns out to be good for him. Who had heard of Harry Kane before a season ago? Kane went on loan to Orient, Millwall, Norwich & Leicester and didn't feature all the time, so it is way too early to write him off but these wasted months won't have helped him. Fingers crossed for the lad.

So what happens now?

He'll be 23 at the start of next season, we've seen a few lads in the Premier League step up from nowhere at that age but I just can't see him getting a chance at Chelsea after the season he's had.

The loans to Palace and Norwich looked like a good idea on paper but they've just not worked out for him.

Could still potentially be third choice next season if Pato and Remy leave but I would bet he'll be sold to a championship side in the summer.

Should give him a chance, the chance we should have given him this year. We will never know if youth players are good enough unless we give them a chance in OUR first team, other premier league clubs won't do our developing for us and rightly so. You can get away with others doing the work by loaning in leagues1,2 and the championship but in this league you've got to work them into your own team to see if they can make it..

I'm so jealous of tottenham right now regarding a few players but specifically Kane. Did nothing of note on his loans and only got a chance due to loldado's uselessness, now he's the best striker in the league. Just goes to show that you have to give players a chance and that a few bad loans mean absolutely nothing.

Palace wasn't a good idea at all, made even worse when they also signed Wickham later on, but by all accounts he's the one who picked Palace so can't fault the club there.

I said at the time if we weren't going to play him we should have accepted the £10m+ offers we had for him, we'll be lucky to get half of that now. Would have been happy to give him a chance as he may have surprised me but I was always of the opinion he wasn't good enough, he'll make a good striker at relegation sides in the league and championship but won't kick on from that level from what I've seen of him.

His moment has come and gone I'm afraid, players like Traore are coming along who look far better.
