Diego "the guv'nor" Costa

Featured Replies

Been called up to the Spain squad for their game against Belgium.

I saw that, Mata also been called up. Is it bad that I don't want Costa playing for Spain? He has cheese strings instead of hamstrings therefore injuries seriously concern me in regards to Costa.

He needs to stop trying to dribble past players when there are options to pass on. Very frustrating watching him inevitably concede posession.

One moment in particular, there was a great chance for a counter where he had hazard making a run, but he decided to go on one of his hopeless, head-down, uncontrolled dribbling runs only to lose the ball.

At least Diego didn't get a yellow on the weekend, a plus for us. I'm not too bothered he didn't score, it happens to the best players out there. However I was quite frustrated with the way he's been playing. His favourite move is the drop deep and try to turn the defender and run towards the goal. Other time he liked to stay on the left flank to get the ball at feet. When we needed a striker in the middle to meet the cross or the through ball, he was rarely there. Considering how dominate we were, he's really wasted that striker position.  Maybe it's due to tired legs, but as soon as the batsman came on, we looked so much better.

COSTA 'WANTED ATLETICO RETURN'

Chelsea forward Diego Costa has admitted he was keen to rejoinAtletico Madrid earlier this summer.

Atleti wanted to re-sign Costa but were unable to persuade Chelsea to part ways with the Spain striker. In the end, the Spanish capital club snapped up Kevin Gameiro from Sevilla.

"Everybody knows there was a possibility of going back to Atletico but it didn't happen because of a few details. I thanks the fans and Cholo (Diego Simeone) for his faith," he is quoted as saying in AS.

"Now I'm at Chelsea, I'm happy there and I've started the season with them. I hope Atletico do well this season like last year and win titles. I wanted to go back, I won't lie about it."

uh....

It seems some of us were spot on for singling him out on his attitude during one of the pre-season games when it seemed that he did not want to be here. Oh well...

After getting it wrong about Courtois a few months ago, i'm going to take this with a pinch of salt. We know how often things like this get mistranslated.

I don't think it's a mistranslation but it isn't something I think we should beat him up with a stick about. Just because he wanted to go back doesn't mean he isn't any less committed to playing for us this year.

Agreed, he was very complimentary about us fans and how he's set on remaining professional.

Hopefully it won't mean it happens next transfer window instead though.

I expect him to eventually go back there, probably next season. Hopefully we get a good season out of him before that happens.

It's clear he loves Atletico and see's it as 'his' club, the treatment he gets in England (rightly or wrongly) was never going to help our cause to keep him long term in all honestly.

He is a good striker but sometimes the baggage that comes with him can be hard to handle.

Also, the point of my post was a bit different. In one of the pre-season games, Costa clearly was looking unhappy, throwing tantrums and looked like he had made up his mind to not stay. Simply hated that aspect, since he is still a chelsea player and should be conducting himself professionally. But calling costa out on that aspect was a massive crime since there was a lot of ridicule directed towards me.

Admittedly, I went over the board, but people seriously should stop singling posters out just because it does not board well with their favourite players.

I hear you on that, different opinions are a healthy and normal thing on forums in my eyes.

Your bit about him drifting to the left is spot in.  He often seems to drift out there and then doesn't really either have the trickery or the explosiveness of acceleration to do anything of note. Plus misses the chance to be on the end of any balls which is his primary function!
