Two votes for Rodgers? Were those made by the resident Pool fans?

And three votes for Moyes, at least now we know how many accounts Davey Baby has.

Roberto Mankini is the latest rumour.

Good manager. Bit of a personality. Can play attacking Football. Plays Youth as far as I remember.

Could be an option. Certainly better than a lot of other names mentioned.

mancini is a good manager, unfairly dismissed at city, did okay with what he had at galatasaray and now leading the seria a with inter. i would take him over anyone else whose been mentioned. not to mention he built the foundations of the current city sides, including toure, aguero, silva kolarov. they signed boateng who left and became a very good defender too.

I voted for Other (=Koeman), but I think Mancini is a very good option. Ancelotti is now committed and I don't think Simeone will leave Atletico. As for Pep, well, I am wary of managers who make all sorts of demands about new players before they will even consider coming here ...  so thanks Pep but "no thanks".

Maybe Hiddink will do well as interim, and make a strong case to be our permanent manager. That would also be ok :)

Pep 1st choice with Mancini are very close 2nd.

Sad state of affairs that no Englishman is even considered for. 'Top 4' job anymore. I'd like to see Eddie Howe one day come to Chelsea, too early now & besides he wouldn't leave AFCB at the moment but we should get in touch with him before other clubs.

I think it would be reasonable to give these voters the benefit of the doubt. Rogers does have a few qualities that match what our board is probably looking for, obviously knows Chelsea and the youth structure/players etc etc, but for me there are better candidates !

I find Moyes a bit too dour ... I am not a fan of the cult of personality in a manager, but Moyes is a little bit too the other way even for me :)

Someone posted a link in one of the Mourinho threads to an article which contained the Barcelona manager selection criteria used back in 2008 (when they hired Guardiola)

I found it interesting ... I wonder if our Board have a similar set of attributes they are looking for ? Certainly including something like #3 and #6 I suspect ...

  1. Respect for the sports-management model and the role of the technical director
  2. Playing style
  3. Promoting the right values in the first team and paying special attention to the development of young talent
  4. Training and performance
  5. Proactive management of the dressing-room
  6. Other responsibilities with, and commitment to, the club, including maintaining a conservative profile and avoiding overuse of the media
  7. Experience as a player and a coach at the highest level
  8. Support for the good governance of the club
  9. Knowledge of the Spanish league, the club and European competition.

I think he was on Football Focus earlier this year - certainly came across as a very impressive individual.Mind you, so did Aidy Boothroyd initially, before he sank without trace !

Will be interesting to see how Eddie's career develops - I agree "one to watch"

Gianfranco to understudy Gus for a season see how it goes. Players would have nothing to moan about for a start. I know it is not going to happen just a Christmas wish.

I hate this obsession with experienced managers. It has nothing to with experience it is about chemistry and passion I reckon. All successful managers where in-experienced at some point.

I highly doubt thats a factor at all

youd be surprised.

only reason sanchez is playing for arsenal. the capital is a massive draw, especially for the mrs. word is that pep's wife fancies london more than manchester - its totally understandable, manchester is a sh*te hole.

put yourself in that position. you have the option of two really important, high profile jobs which both offer you the chance to really prove yourself in your particular line of work. Both similarly paid, both a little volatile with your predecessors heads' rolling when they havent lived up to expectations. One job is in New York City, the other is in upstate Buffalo.

simplistic way of looking at it, but same rules apply.

it will be a factor i reckon, not a deciding one, but certainly something to consider especially for someone with a family.

I would put up with living there for 3 years if I was on £10M + a year!

f**k me, I'd even live in Merseyside for that sort of money. Hmmm, actually no, they'd have to make it £20M.

haha!

yep i know what you're saying. but if its a similar job offer, and you have reservations about both, and positives about both with it being quite finely balanced - and you look at one in London and one in Manc, I think most people from overseas would favour London.

not saying its the be all and end all, but its definitely a factor.

good point about english managers. the thing is, the next pep could well be out there; the young and adventurous, tactically adept manager, but we are yet to see him because he hasn't been brought to our attention. if howe becomes a manager of that ilk in the future then he would be worth hiring. i would love to have an english manager here. hell, if neville ends up doing the job at valencia we could hire him. i think our vision should be building the foundations for a dominant side, of which is 50% english/homegrown talent at least. it isn't like it cannot be done, but there's still a fair amount of work to be done at grassroots to improve british kids technical abilities.

youd be surprised.

David De Gea's girlfriend is no fan of Manchester saying it's uglier then a back of a fridge. But in Pep's case he'll only be there about three years so won't be a massive factor plus he'll be on eye watering money.

Sounds like we are running out of managers if Simone is not coming.

Mankini or Pellers. I'd probbarly just about take Mankini..just. Pellers is just too nice and laid back.

If we can't get Pep, Pochettino should be our second choice. The thought of Pochettino will make Traore, Solanke, Aina, Kennedy and ESPECIALLY RLC buzzing with excitement

I just don't think we are set up to do long term management, very few top clubs keep managers for a great length of time, as Arsenal will find out when Wenger retires. There is a small pool of top managers, that keep being recycled round Europe. We might as well stick with Hiddink for a season or two, if he fancies it.

We need strong players who can hold it together when the inevitable upheaval happens, we are more in need of replacements for JT, Lampard, Drogba and Cech than we are in need of the next big thing in Football management.

In short put me down as a don't know.

Paul Clement could be that man.

I'm still fuming that Jose is gone but I'm slowly moving on from his departure day-by-day now.

In regards to our next manager, Diego Simeone is the ideal manager for me! He's been brilliant at Atletico Madrid and he's competed well with the two dominant teams of Spain in Barcelona and Real Madrid. He's got plenty of charisma, knowledge and I believe he wouldn't tolerate any bullsh*t from the players if he was manager. The ideal candidate for mine.

Pep is very highly rated but I think he's overrated somewhat because he hasn't really been challenged yet as manager. Tactically he's astute but I doubt his ability to build a strong spine that can make our team strong for many years to come. He's been lucky to inherit very strong teams that Barcelona and Bayern Munich had at their disposal so coming to Chelsea if he was appointed would be a new challenge for him plus he's hinted that he's never been a long-term manager as his departures from Barcelona and Bayern Munich demonstrate.

Is Roberto Mancini the best we can do if these latest rumours are serious? I believe Simeone is the only guy that would satisfy me after Mourinho's sacking. If we can't obtain Simeone I seriously think we're regressing in the managerial stakes.

Anyway it won't matter either way because this current administration is so used to flicking managers with the click of the thumb that the idea of long-term managers has been made redundant regardless of who we appoint next. I'd love to be proven wrong by this, but Jose's recent sacking vindicates this point.

Chelsea target Diego Simeone would demand control of transfer policy to take charge at Stamford Bridge
Exclusive: Atletico Madrid manager feels final say on purchases is non-negotiable condition of becoming long-term successor to Jose Mourinho

A source close to Simeone told The Telegraph that he is extremely happy at Atlético and will only consider quitting Spain for Chelsea if all of his conditions are met. The final say over all incoming transfers would be a “non-negotiable”.
Emenalo plays a big role in Chelsea’s transfer business and Mourinho even admitted he had nothing to do with the summer signing of central defender Papy Djilobodji.
Abramovich essentially backed Emenalo over Mourinho by not signing any of the big-name outfield stars the Portuguese wanted in the summer, other than Radamel Falcao on loan, and then holding the 52-year-old to account for the abysmal Premier League title defence.

With no permanent manager at Chelsea, Emenalo will take sole charge of the club’s January transfer window plans and chase targets such as Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy and Shakhtar Donetsk attacking midfielder Alex Teixeira.
But Simeone would not stand for any Emenalo signings in the mould of Djilobodji or Michael Hector, who was immediately loaned back to Championship club Reading.
Simeone works closely with Atlético sporting director José Luis Caminero but retains the final say and right of veto over any incoming signings and the 45-year-old would not be prepared to give that up.
That would put Abramovich in the tricky position of either having to choose between Emenalo and Simeone, or attempting to negotiate some sort of compromise that suits both parties

Who ever comes in will demand to have the last word on the transfers like Klopp did with Liverpool, if Roman can't give him that, don't expect you can hire a world class manager like Pep or Simeone. Imagine Simeone demands a Godin or Thiago Silva and Emenalo give them Djilbodji 2.0, Simeone and his assistant will kick his ass.

not that keen on simeone tbh. he is a decent manager but he's not ideal. in all honesty, if we don't get pep then may as well stick with hiddink if he does a good job.
