June 27, 20215 yr Have also had this thought (about deploying him as DM) and expressed it somewhere in this thread I think. The versatility of some of our players is a theme that interests me and could indeed, as @Scott Harris said (albeit tongue in cheek, at least partially?) save us a lot of money on transfers. James is another example that’s been talked about on the forum, but there are probably more.

James on the other hand is a peculiar one.. he has excellent delivery from wide areas but for some reason is a reluctant attacker. plays far too many safe passes as a WB and hence leaves people wondering if we require someone more attacking in that position. i would still want James to be a marauding WB because that sort of natural availability from wide areas is rare.. but he needs to step it up a little to be considered a WC WB/RB. but the good thing is he is very young and still learning.
July 3, 20215 yr Hmm sounds like he might not be so keen on signing a new deal. Has one year left on his contract: https://weaintgotnohistory.sbnation.com/chelsea-fc-transfer-rumours-news/2021/7/3/22562007/chelsea-have-little-leverage-in-andreas-christensen-contract-extension-negotiations-report Maybe he will be on his way this summer or the next.
July 3, 20215 yr Just says we dont have any leverage. he came out a few weeks back saying he would love to extend his contract and is waiting on the club. Think its more on our side..we would be stupid not to tie him down, hes proving to be an elite defender.
July 3, 20215 yr Has done well recently and if we persist with the back 3 you'd be happy to keep him.

July 5, 20215 yr Big Andy Christensen coming out with some of the most boring hubris I've ever heard: https://www.theguardian.com/football/2021/jul/05/not-that-much-better-denmark-andreas-christensen-england-euro-2020-semi-final Quote “I feel like we have the qualities to play against everyone. As a team, I would not say they [England] are that much better." Edited July 5, 20215 yr by PloKoon13
July 5, 20215 yr It's relative, isn't it? I suspect he might have been asked something like "how on earth will you manage to even get the ball from the mighty English?" and then replied "well, I don't think they are THAT much better as a team". He doesn't even claim they are not better at all, which would be perfectly understandable as well considering the mental state he needs to put himself and his teammates in before the match. The England fans' and medias' underestimation of other teams is quite astonishing.

"He is good with his feet and he is one of the best finishers in football. I react a lot on instinct. He is very big, so it is hard to get into his body, but he also has great qualities with his feet, so you should not get too close either."

Best of luck tomorrow!
July 6, 20215 yr England must hope he has one of his pre-game diarrhoea episodes tomorrow. Perhaps Southgate should sneak in the Danish dressing room and hide all the toilet rolls.

He has a lot harder job marshaling Kane and Sterling than if he was in blue.

I don't know enough of his fellow defenders, but Schmeichel is certainly not worse than Mendy, perhaps even better.

All the indications are that Christensen is happy at Chelsea. “I’m in this for the long run and I always have been,” he said in April. “I feel like this is my second home. Denmark will always be my home, but Chelsea will always be my place.” Source of quote: https://theathletic.com/2685918/2021/07/03/christensen-finally-blossoming-into-the-elite-modern-defender-chelseas-academy-staff-believed-he-could-be/ I would be very surprised if we didn't keep hold of Christensen. He's surely nailed on to get plenty of starts at either RCB or playing central of the 3 given that Dave and Silva are unlikely to play all of our games.

Kjaer stole all the headlines on leadership with the Erikssen incident, but he's certainly no slouch either. I'd say he's finally fulfilled the potential that supposedly made Juventus and the Manchester clubs go for him way back when he was at Palermo. He is easily one of the best defenders in Serie A, and is definitely Milan's best. The only thing going against him is pace, but while he's not exactly on the same level as Thiago Silva it's all about reading the game and positioning (+ the leadership).
