Antonio Conte - Now Officially Manager

Eventually yes but not at that level and certainly not as early as the fans took to Antonio.

I remember back then at the bridge and from the few tiems I was down last season the Antonio chants certainly were the best I have experienced for a manager.

What are you talking about, Jose was a God at the Bridge till the final year of his second period. It is not even close.

Conte was passionate and this strong quality of his was the reason he ended up the mass with mixed feelings about him, given the lack of passion he demonstrated in his second year at the Bridge.

thank you, Antonio, for keeping all this sh*t civilized. Classy.

I'm talking about my physical experience of being at the bridge during Joses first spell and Conte's.

I thought it was pretty self explanatory.

I am not downplaying the passion for Jose in his first spell, merely stating Conte got the adulation much sooner and at a higher vocal level.

Jose will always be our most successful manager (until someone dominates like he did and even then it still might not be enough)

Conte is suing us.

Antonio Conte is taking legal action against Chelsea, including the claim that he deserves to be compensated for loss of future earnings and the damage to his career caused by the club’s delay in sacking him.

The Italian is angry that Chelsea did not confirm his dismissal until last week — 55 days after he led them to victory in the FA Cup final — a delay that his lawyers will argue cost him the opportunity to gain employment elsewhere this summer.

Conte is demanding compensation on top of the £9 million salary that he is entitled to receive for the final year of his contract.

He had been resigned to leaving Chelsea since January as a result of the collapse in his relationship with the board at Stamford Bridge because of disagreements over transfer policy, but Conte is unhappy with the way his departure was managed.

After not hearing from the club for several weeks at the end of last season, the 48-year-old was summoned back to London a fortnight ago to begin pre-season training, taking charge of the players for four days before being sacked in a brief meeting with Chelsea chairman Bruce Buck last Thursday.

The club waited 24 hours before confirming Conte’s departure last Friday and appointed his successor Maurizio Sarri the following day.

Conte released a statement through the League Managers Association this week, in which he thanked all his “friends” at Chelsea for their support and wished them success in the future, a move which often signifies that severance terms have been agreed between a club and their outgoing manager, but that is not the case in this instance. The former Italy coach remains furious at the way he has been treated and while he used his statement to thank Chelsea’s “players and staff” there was no mention of the board nor of Roman Abramovich, the club’s owner.

Conte’s legal team will argue that Chelsea have cost their client a year of his career, as all the top management jobs in Europe have been filled. Real Madrid are understood to have sounded out Conte after Zinédine Zidane left in May, while the Italy job was also available earlier in the summer. He did not pursue either option, though, and will claim he was committed to Chelsea.

For their part, Chelsea have threatened to withhold the final year of his contract due to alleged irregular conduct and repeated criticism of his employers during his second season at Stamford Bridge.

Sarri is close to signing Daniele Rugani from Juventus. Chelsea have been told by the Italian club to increase their offer for the central defender to about £40 million. His arrival would make it more likely that Gary Cahill, Kurt Zouma and Matt Miazga will leave. AC Milan have expressed an interest in the Chelsea striker Álvaro Morata, and could offer Gianluigi Donnarumma, their 19-year-old goalkeeper, as part of a deal.

I am a little confused by all of this. Did he, or did he not get the 9M for the last year? If he didn't (because the club is trying to argue dismissal on the grounds of misconduct of some sort) - then of course there is scope for grievance.

If he did - that's his salary for the next year. What other opportunity this summer?

Weird. And all of this assumes that they were not encouraging him to find other opportunities (in order to get out of paying 9M) - and, instead, just kept pretending he was gonna be here next year until the day he was sacked. Which is possible, but rather dubious. I suspect there would've been hints along the lines of:  "If you were to get an offer from PSG Sig Conte - we might just be OK with that"

9 Million for a years work is a bit silly in any case.

While it would, of course, be preferable - comrade ;) - if all them lot got paid as much as nurses and primary school teachers - but in the world of top level football, if anything, I am always amazed by the fact that top managers do not command the transfer fees and not quite the salaries of the top players. Surely top manager is more important than any individual player?

It is a bit silly.

He knew he was going to get his 9m pay-off when he was going to be sacked but he pretended he was committed to the club (taking on pre-season training) but now cries foul, saying he has missed loads of managerial opportunities!

I think he just wants to give a final f**k you to the club for the way he has been treated. He burnt all his bridges with the management at the beginning of the year.

So he's complaining we didn't sack him at a time that suits him? That seems a bit idiotic. If he is the Club's employee they can let him go at a time that suits them and not him surely? The 'compensation' element of the claim seems bogus. Otherwise pay him what his contract entitles him to - presumably an additional year - less the costs for this ridiculous claim.

What an absolute embarrasment we have become......pay the man his f**king Money. Amazing how disorganized and petty we are......I dont care how much he moaned, we as a Club should be much much more classy.

Maybe if hated things so much and had offers he wanted to take he should have given up his f**king massive wage and quit. He stayed to get a payout, simple as that

We gave epic flops like Scolari and AVB full compo and glowing references without even blinking. If Conte isn't getting the same, he must have done some heavy duty sh*t last season, even worse than what's been reported.

Conte was one of our most successful managers in Roman era and we absolutely dropped the ball with him. Why on earth didn't we sack him right after the cup win if we were to do it anyway...

Is that true? If it is, then he probably only beat Carlo by a month or so.

Carlo lasted 2 seasons exactly, was sent packing pretty much right after the second season ended

Conte lasted 2 seasons.......... and 1 day of preseason :laugh2::laugh2:

Sarri, if you make us competitive with an attractive and exciting brand of football then PLEASE do not win the title in the first season.  Just cups please.   We cant afford another manager who wins it in the first season...

I spelled "We" "e"

And you would not? It was in his contract.....he won us 2 major titles, he is fully entitled to his pay-out.

Maybe.....but we as a Club are no better whatsoever.

He has a case if he wanted out of his contract and Chelsea refused only to sack him later once the job was no longer available.

No reason to pay up his 9 million in one go. Should be retained in his contract, and placed on gardening leave, with his salary paid as per the terms of his contract. Unless, Chelsea are arguing his actions were negligent and in breach of contract to the extent that they will challenge the need to pay the final year.

Thought it was pretty standard for Chelsea to do that (place on gardening leave), and that they stop paying the salary if/when the coach secures a new job.

By all accounts this whole sh*t truly kicked off when Conte became uncontactable for 10 whole days, if that's true then he shouldn't get a penny out of us regardless off how we dealt with the situation.

Well put...

Really I do wonder sometimes at where some loyalties lie. ?
I am Chelsea.. end of.
Players managers come and go and to a degree so do owners, but the club remains, and that's what I support.
People who leave the club with dignity (and are usually well paid) have nothing but my respect... But.... The moment you turn on the club for me that's It.
The list of people who I wouldn't piss on if on fire grows, and Conte will soon join that group.
He cost us a top 4 spot being spiteful and vengeful towards the club and certain players and I'm afraid that is not only unprofessional but shows a lack of respect towards the club and it's fans.

Are you allowed to just quit? Could the club have refused him quitting, even if he wanted to without compensation?

Ohh come'on man.....that is just a petty excuse by the Club to get one over him. This Whole f**king ordeal is not good for us, or our reputation.
